I think I may have found it. Pictured is quite possibly the smallest &#8220;ship&#8221; in the US Navy&#8217;s fleet.<\/p>\n<p>This is a little tug boat known as &#8220;Boomin&#8217; Beaver&#8221;. Not much bigger than a Ford F-150, these little boats are used to tow small vessels, but their primary role is to tend to underwater security nets at major ports.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"body-text\">The tug\u00a0<a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/interestingasfuck\/comments\/ifa0ns\/the_smallest_activeduty_vessel_mini_tug_of_the\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/interestingasfuck\/comments\/ifa0ns\/the_smallest_activeduty_vessel_mini_tug_of_the\/\">first popped up on Reddit<\/a>\u00a0earlier this week. Chuck&#8217;s Boat and Drive in Longview, Washington built these boats for loggers, and at some point, the U.S. Navy purchased scores of them for various harbor duties. One Redditor identified this particular tug as operating out of Point Loma Sub Base in California, saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"body-blockquote\"><p><em>&#8220;It\u2019s a security tug. Those protective barriers surrounding the water portion of the navy base don\u2019t move themselves. It\u2019s the equivalent of opening the gate for cattle to go in and out.
