Florida woman shoots, kills man trying to break into her home<\/strong>

A Florida woman shot and killed a man who returned to her home after an argument early Saturday and tried to use a tire iron to smash his way inside, authorities said.<\/p>\n

The shooting happened just after 6 a.m. in an unincorporated area of Auburndale in Polk County, Sheriff Grady Judd said at a news conference. Judd said it appeared the \u201cshooter was perfectly legal to defend her home from a burglar.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have a right to protect yourself in your home and be free from home invaders, armed burglars, and certainly he was armed with a tire iron and making an attempt to come in through the window,\u201d Judd said. “She stopped him. She stopped him permanently.\u201d<\/p>\n

The homeowner and the suspect were known to each other, the sheriff said. They had gone out the night before to a pool hall in Lakeland with another man and a woman who was the suspect\u2019s live-in girlfriend. The group of four returned to the woman\u2019s home around 4 a.m. after stopping at a liquor store for a bottle of whiskey.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nBut Muldrew states other reasons for his decision<\/em><\/p>\n

\nBefore denying bond to William \u201cMarc\u201d Wilson, who faces felony murder and aggravated assault charges in shooting death of Haley Hutcheson, 17, Judge Michael Muldrew heard reports that Hutcheson\u2019s family received multiple threats via social media and email.<\/p>\n

Nobody during the bond hearing Tuesday afternoon in Bulloch County Superior Court said that Wilson was responsible for any of these threats. In fact, he had already been in jail three weeks when at least some of the threats were received. Muldrew said he did not base his decision to deny bond on the threats but on witnesses\u2019 accounts of Wilson\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n

However, the judge said he was \u201cextremely concerned about public statements that have been uttered on behalf of the defendant.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wilson, who will soon be 22, has been held at the Bulloch County Jail since June 17, when he turned himself in.<\/p>\n

Hutcheson, who was a Claxton High School student, was pronounced dead at East Georgia Regional Medical Center shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday, June 14, after being struck by a bullet while riding in a pickup truck on Veterans Memorial Parkway with four other teens.<\/p>\n

Statesboro police alleged in warrants that Wilson fired the bullet that struck Hutcheson from a handgun in his car while both vehicles were in motion. Multiple shots were fired, according to testimony Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Back on July 6, the day before Muldrew issued a gag order prohibiting anyone involved in the case from making public statements about it outside of the courtroom, Wilson\u2019s parents and some of his defense attorneys held a press conference. The attorneys asserted that Wilson, who is biracial, and a girlfriend, who is white, were victims of a racist attack by people in the pickup truck, who were white, and that Wilson fired his gun in self-defense.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
