IL State Rep La Shawn Ford (D-Chicago) – History skeptic<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

You’d be mistaken for believing that this is an article from The Onion or The Babylon Bee, but this isn’t satire. Sadly. A sitting Illinois state representative, La Shawn Ford (D-Chicago) is “calling for the abolishment of history classes in Illinois.” Again, this isn’t a joke. He held a press conference to announce this!<\/p>\n

Now why on Earth would a government official want to see history removed from public schools? He says, “We\u2019re concerned that current school history teachings lead to white privilege and a racist society.” Like all that racism, like in Ford’s native in Chicago, that forced Jussie Smollett to hire two Nigerian dudes to beat him up to stage a hate crime?<\/p>\n

Now it’s been a couple decades since I was in public school, but I recall a significant amount of time being devoted to the racist things in America’s past. Slavery, the Civil War, Dred Scott, Jim Crow, the Civil Rights Movement, and all the unpleasantness between settlers and Natives. Things like the everlasting brilliance of the Constitution were glossed over, as I was taught it was “a living document” easily changed to suit the times. We went to the moon, sure, but look at the Trail of Tears. This is why I don’t see what Representative Ford is looking for. It’s not like Illinois is known as a bastion of orthodox conservative views.<\/p>\n

As I noted earlier today, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” I still think those that willfully and purposefully destroy the past are intending<\/em> to repeat it.<\/p>\n
