KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) \u2014 Dramatic cellphone video captured a Kalamazoo native as he caught a baby who was thrown from a burning apartment building in Arizona.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was definitely fate,\u201d said Phillip Blanks.<\/p>\n

Blanks made the rescue in Phoenix on July 2. The baby boy\u2019s mom sacrificed her life to save his. She threw him out of the window of their burning apartment.<\/p>\n

\u201cSoon as I caught him, it was a divine moment,\u201d said Blanks. \u201cWe looked each other in the eyes, and he had this new slate of life in him, new chance at life, like I\u2019ll never forget that.\u201dPhillip Blanks<\/p>\n

Blanks credited the split-second decision to his training as a Marine and wide receiver for Kalamazoo Central High School.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was all an act of God,\u201d said Blanks.<\/p>\n
