Legally armed driver shoots, kills gunman to stop fatal shooting spree in\u00a0Indiana<\/h3>\n

BROWNSBURG, Ind. \u2014 A legally armed man shot and killed a gunman in Brownsburg, Ind., after a fatal unprovoked shooting,\u00a0saving a second victim\u2019s life in the process.<\/a><\/p>\n

The 22-year-old suspect, Joshua Hayes, allegedly attacked two men as they were working in the Brownsburg Cemetery Tuesday afternoon, July 14, Indianapolis-based\u00a0WISH-TV reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Without provocation, Hayes allegedly chased 36-year-old worker Seth Robertson out into an intersection, where he shot and killed him, according to the station.<\/p>\n

As Hayes was chasing the second cemetery worker, one of his bullets whizzed into the vehicle of an unidentified good Samaritan who was stopped at a red light near the intersection, injuring him, the\u00a0Indianapolis Star reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That man stepped out of the car, returned fire with a legal weapon and fatally struck Hayes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The retired soldier who was hailed as a hero after\u00a0taking down a gunman<\/a>\u00a0who opened fire at people stopped in their vehicles on a bridge in May was awarded for his actions this week.<\/p>\n
Retired Master Sgt. David Royer was awarded the Soldier’s Medal on Thursday, nearly two months after he drove toward a gunman, ramming him with his truck as the man began firing on people at random.<\/p>\n
“It’s hard to say what inspires soldiers at the risk of their own lives to intervene and to save other soldiers, but that’s exactly what Master Sgt. Royer did on that day,” McConville said during the ceremony. “He risked his own life to save others, and we’re very, very proud of his actions that day.”<\/p>\n
The medal, which is the\u00a0Army<\/a>‘s highest award for non-combat heroism, was presented by Army Chief of Staff Gen. James McConville at a ceremony at\u00a0Fort Leavenworth<\/a>, Kansas.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Two men and a woman on Wednesday were\u00a0arrested in connection with the brutal beating\u00a0deaths of three\u00a0Florida<\/a>\u00a0friends during a nighttime catfishing trip.<\/p>\n

“We have locked up the three people responsible for the murders of these guys,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
Tony “TJ” Wiggins, 26, a hardened criminal with 230 felony criminal charges against him in his arrest history, was the alleged ringleader\u00a0behind the “massacre.” His girlfriend, Mary Whittemore, 27, and his\u00a0brother William “Robert” Wiggins, 21, have also been arrested.<\/p>\n
Judd called the elder Wiggins\u00a0“pure evil in the flesh” and said his criminal history dates back to when he was 12 years old. He has 15 convictions and has two stints in state prison on his record.<\/p>\n
“He’s a thug, he’s a criminal,” Judd said, adding Wiggins\u00a0has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of\u00a0ammunition by a convicted felon.<\/p>\n
His brother has been charged with tampering with evidence and accessory. Whittemore has been charged with accessory after the fact of capital felony.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
