The cause appears to be a neurological disorder or disease, as they are seen wandering in circles, and some carcasses have been found to have fallen on their faces. The elephants in the photo are two different species.

The full story is here, with an embedded video:

https://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/505782-officials-investigate-mysterious-deaths-of-more-than-350-elephants

This by itself is disturbing enough, since people are now poaching wildlife in India, e.g., tigers and jaguars are being poached during the CV-19 crisis. I know those people are desperate for money, but isn’t India wealthy enough to support those in need? No? No food pantries? No help from the gubbmint?

Okay, moving on…. the disease is only found in Africa so far. I will keep an eye on any progress in discovering what it is, but it does appear to be contagious among elephants, which means it can spread outside Botswana. There’s no word just yet on whether it’s something that might infect humans, which is a good reason to try to keep tabs on it.

In the same column of links, I found that the so-called liberals have decided, with their usual degree of utter stupidity, tackiness and bad manners, decided that a dead elephant (see link at Amazon) is not just a great idea for mocking the GOPers party, but a WHOPPER of a great idea!!.

So various and sundry money-grubbing idiots have started selling “GOP Dead Elephant” shirts and posters. They’re being sold on the independent sales sites such as Amazon and Red Bubble: https://www.amazon.com/Dead-Elephant-Republican-Protest-Tank/dp/B084F3VMDH?customId=B07MZP9QWJ&th=1

Real funny, right? Oh, just super, super duper funny!

Here’s a way to embarrass these jerks without starting a screaming match.

They are part of the population group that tries to hammer the rest of us about how the Earth is going to be completely destroyed (in 12 years, per AOC) by the following things: (pick one: plastic straws, any carbon-based product that produces CO2 as a byproduct, mining for rare elements that go into their iPhones, climate change, etc., etc., etc.) and yes, they just groove on “the environment” and “wildlife” (which is why they get chased by bears and coyotes). They’ll probably be horrified by the reports of (not poached) dead elephants, and then you can point out that someone is selling (or that they might be wearing) “dead elephant” T-shirts and it’s about as tacky and disrespectful to elephants as you can get. They simply shouldn’t support such gross tackiness by wearing a “dead elephants” T-shirt, which is cheesy, tawdry, tasteless, and about as close to despicable as you can get…. considering that elephants never did anything to them, personally.

And then you can hand them a printout of the article from The Hill and walk away before they ask you where Botswana is located.

You could also bring up the plight of children as young as five years old being made to dig for cobalt in the Congo. I have into some of that generation who can barely do simple arithmetic, but are in college where results are expected out of them.
