Several news outlets, including the USA Today<\/a>, are reporting that a Florida man has now lost his insurance job over a rant in a Fort Myers COSCO.<\/p>\n

Apparently, a woman had pointed out that the man was not wearing a mask and he got upset with both her and someone that tried to intervene.<\/p>\n

The man was later identified as Daniel Maples.\u00a0 The insurance company he worked for fired him after learning of the incident and viewing the video.<\/p>\n

To be honest, I don’t know how I feel about this.\u00a0 I don’t take sides in the particular dispute above other than it does seem like Maples overreacted to the situation.\u00a0 It is like watching a train wreck.<\/p>\n

I liken this to smoking since it not only affects the smoker’s health but those around them.\u00a0 If someone is a smoker, and there is no smoking indoors, then they probably get irritated when someone points out the obvious to them.<\/p>\n

I prefer that people wear masks in public but the problem is enforcement<\/strong>.\u00a0 When the establishments don’t enforce it, it then falls to the individual that cares whether others are wearing masks or not.<\/p>\n

If someone is elderly or has an underlying health condition that puts them at risk of COVID-19, they have a reasonable sense of security when they walk into an establishment that has signs posted that all patrons must wear a mask.\u00a0 If someone chooses not to, then it puts the establishment in a tough situation as to whether to police this.\u00a0 That is when these types of problems arise.<\/p>\n

Whatever happened to having a sign that says “No shirt, no shoes, no service?”<\/p>\n

On the other hand, people do have legitimate reasons for not wearing one.\u00a0 However, they can make an allowance for this by having other members of the family go into the store.<\/p>\n

I hate to see a trend of people losing their jobs over a lapse of judgment.\u00a0 Now, stating “All Lives Matter” with a counter to “Black Lives Matter” will quickly get you fired, but using the term “All Black Lives Matter” will cause consternation but allows you to keep your job.<\/p>\n

Since every citizen with a cell phone may possess a social justice agenda, everybody has to have their head on a swivel.\u00a0 Although being careful of what you say is always a good thing, now you have to be careful of what people THINK about what you say. In other words, you are at the mercy of their interpretation.<\/p>\n

I propose that we have new rules in place.<\/p>\n

For instance:<\/p>\n

  1. Everything you said and\/or posted to social media before you reached age 21 should be forgiven.<\/li>\n
  2. Three strikes and you’re out.\u00a0 Doing something stupid once can be considered a lapse of judgment, two is a pattern and three is someone that is unwilling to see the error of their ways.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Seriously, I can make a case against anybody.<\/p>\n
