This is a very strange story with several twists.<\/p>\n

Jonathan Lopez, 29 y\/o, a fairly new resident of Umatilla County Oregan was recently running for County Commissioner.\u00a0 According to several news sources, Lopez received a letter full of racist and homophobic slurs saying he was not welcome.<\/p>\n

Lopez nobly stated that he had no resentment toward the person who wrote the letter.<\/p>\n

Well, of course he didn’t hold any resentment toward the person since he wrote it himself.<\/p>\n

County commission candidate confesses to writing racist letter<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

A racist letter that recent Umatilla County commissioner candidate Jonathan Lopez claimed was left anonymously in his mailbox was written by Lopez himself, according to Lopez and Hermiston Police Chief Jason Edmiston.<\/p>\n

On Monday, July 6, Edmiston said in an email that Lopez had confessed that he wrote the letter. Edmiston said the case would be forwarded to the Umatilla County District Attorney\u2019s office for review for initiating a false report, a Class A misdemeanor in Oregon.<\/p>\n

Lopez had previously posted a photo of a typed letter full of racist, homophobic and misogynist slurs to Facebook, stating that he had received the letter but that he had \u201cno resentment for whomever wrote this.\u201d<\/p>\n

The letter, as shown in the photo, stated in part that Lopez and other \u201cMexicans\u201d were \u201cnot welcome here\u201d and that \u201cAmerica is for the God fearing, pro gun, pro life humans who refuse to be controlled by the government.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lopez initially stated that it was a big misunderstanding. He said he just meant to speak with Edmiston about racism in Umatilla County and use the letter as an example of the type of racism people experience, but often don\u2019t speak out about publicly.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never meant to file a report, it just kind of spiraled out,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He also said he \u201cnever meant to mislead\u201d the public.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Lopez’s Facebook page<\/a> has since been deleted.<\/p>\n

But, he went on to claim that he served in the U.S. Coast Guard.<\/p>\n

In his post, Jonathan writes about the experience of receiving the letter and his background as a person. Jonathan states, “Many don\u2019t know me or who I am and where I stand. As an American born man who served in the USCG, fire and rescue services. I\u2019m also proud of where my parents and grandparents were born and raised, Mexico. I have lived a life full of obstacles and challenges Including racism. There is no room or tolerance of that.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The DoD Manpower Data Center \/ SCRA does not show any active military service for Lopez but he could have been in the Reserves.\u00a0 Also, other than Los Angeles CA and New York NY, his prior address history does not support living near any Coast Guard bases, but it is possible.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the Hermiston Police are sending the Office of the District Attorney verifiable information of potential election fraud as it pertains to the Stolen Valor Act of 2013 and other false credentials presented by Mr. Lopez during his run for county commissioner. This in conjunction with a lengthy criminal history record may result in the filing of additional charges.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
