Guillen, a 20-year-old private first class in the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, was last seen April 22, at a Fort Hood parking lot. Her car and barracks room keys, identification card and wallet were found in the armory room where she was working the day she disappeared, Fort Hood officials have said.<\/p>\n
Before Guillen went missing, she informed her family that she was being sexually harassed by one of her sergeants at Fort Hood. She did not identify the man by name.<\/p>\n

The suspect was identified as a fellow soldier who fled Fort Hood on foot<\/em> A lawyer representing the family of Vanessa Guillen, a 20-year-old soldier reported missing from a U.S. Army base in Texas in April, said Wednesday they’re demanding accountability after it appears her body has been found and a suspect killed himself.<\/p>\n The attorney, Natalie Kahwam, referred to a suspect — identified by officials as a fellow soldier who fled Fort Hood on foot Wednesday morning and reportedly shot and killed himself as local police and federal marshals closed in on him at a home in Killeen, Texas.<\/p>\n Another suspect — identified only as the estranged wife of a former Fort Hood soldier — was taken into custody and awaits charges in connection to Guillen’s disappearance.<\/p>\n “We believe that her remains were found,” Kahwam said in a press conference in Washington, D.C. “We believe that the suspect had killed himself in the morning. And that, unfortunately, does not provide us much information about how this happened, why this happened. About why a beautiful young soldier is not with us today.”<\/p>\n Killeen Police said in a statement that its officers, U.S. Marshals in the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and investigators with the Fort Hood Criminal Investigation Division located the suspect in the 4700 block of East Rancier Avenue in Killeen around 1:29 a.m. Wednesday.<\/p>\n \u201cAs officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, the suspect displayed a weapon and discharged it towards himself. The suspect succumbed from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,\u201d the press release said.<\/p>\n “The person who took his own life earlier today in Killeen after being sought by Killeen police and federal marshals was a soldier from Fort Hood and had fled the base earlier in the day,\u201d U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command said in another statement Wednesday. \u201cA civilian has been arrested in connection with Vanessa Guillen’s disappearance.
