By Jackie SaloJune<\/strong><\/p>\n An Italian infectious disease doctor believes the coronavirus has become less dangerous \u2014 and could disappear on its own without a vaccine.<\/p>\n Dr. Matteo Bassetti, the head of the infectious diseases clinic at the San Martino hospital, said the virus appears to have become less potent, possibly due to genetic mutations, the Sunday Telegraph reported.<\/p>\n \u201cThe clinical impression I have is that the virus is changing in severity,\u201d Bassetti told the outlet.<\/p>\n \u201cIn March and early April the patterns were completely different. People were coming to the emergency department with a very difficult to manage illness and they needed oxygen and ventilation, some developed pneumonia.\u201dBut he said in the past month, \u201cthe picture has completely changed in terms of patterns.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt was like an aggressive tiger in March and April but now it\u2019s like a wild cat,\u201d Bassetti said. \u201cEven elderly patients, aged 80 or 90, are now sitting up in bed and they are breathing without help.
