{"id":101069,"date":"2020-06-16T07:00:01","date_gmt":"2020-06-16T11:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=101069"},"modified":"2020-06-15T22:45:47","modified_gmt":"2020-06-16T02:45:47","slug":"there-could-be-more-than-30-alien-civilizations-in-the-milky-way","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=101069","title":{"rendered":"There could be more than 30 alien civilizations in the Milky Way"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-101070 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/cal_hobbs-life-300x196.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"337\" height=\"220\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/cal_hobbs-life-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/cal_hobbs-life-500x327.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/cal_hobbs-life.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 337px) 100vw, 337px\" \/><br \/>\nBy: Bill Watterson<\/p>\n<p><strong>By Chris Ciaccia<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/topic\/aliens\">extraterrestrial<\/a> civilizations exist, we may not have to go too far to find them.<\/p>\n<p>A new study from researchers at the U.K.&#8217;s University of Nottingham suggests there are 36 planets in the Milky Way galaxy, a calculation the experts have dubbed &#8220;the Astrobiological Copernican Limit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe classic method for estimating the number of intelligent civilizations relies on making guesses of values relating to life, whereby opinions about such matters vary quite substantially,&#8221; the study&#8217;s lead author, Tom Westby, said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nottingham.ac.uk\/news\/research-sheds-new-light-on-intelligent-life-existing-across-the-galaxy\">statement<\/a>. &#8220;Our new study simplifies these assumptions using new data, giving us a solid estimate of the number of civilizations in our Galaxy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere should be at least a few dozen active civilizations in our Galaxy under the assumption that it takes 5 billion years for intelligent life to form on other planets, as on Earth,\u201d University of Nottingham professor Christopher Conselice added.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers found that there were limits for finding intelligent life, including the average lifespan of a civilization, which can be less than 1,000 years, as well as the age of the planet and what the host star is comprised of.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Furthermore, the likelihood that the host stars for this life are solar-type stars is extremely small and most would have to be M dwarfs, which may not be stable enough to host life over long timescales,&#8221; the researchers wrote in the study&#8217;s abstract.<\/p>\n<p>The research has been published in <a href=\"https:\/\/iopscience.iop.org\/article\/10.3847\/1538-4357\/ab8225\">The Astrophysical Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If such a civilization were to exist, the closest one would be 17,000 light-years away, which the researchers noted would make the ability to find and communicate with them &#8220;very difficult,&#8221; given the state of our technology.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Marvin the Martian unavailable for comment.
