Lee monument in Richmond, Virginia recently got a makeover in support of BLM and support of black LGBTQ+ rights.<\/p>\n<p>As a side note: I wonder if someone that is LGBTQ+ is caught saying &#8220;All LGBTQ+ rights&#8221; would be accused of being homophobic or whatever phobia applies?<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h4 class=\"pg-headline\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2020\/06\/13\/us\/richmond-robert-e-lee-statue-trnd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Statue of Robert E. Lee gets a makeover with Pride Flag and &#8216;BLM&#8217; sign<\/a><\/h4>\n<p><cite class=\"el-editorial-source\">(CNN)<\/cite>Activists in Richmond, Virginia, projected the image of a pride flag and &#8216;BLM&#8217; on a\u00a0Confederate statue\u00a0there Friday night in support of black LGBTQ+ rights.<\/p>\n<p>The statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee has been the site of many protests since the death of George Floyd and is the same one currently in legal limbo after the governor&#8217;s order to remove it was met with a lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>After multiple protests, the statue has been covered in multicolor spray paint with phrases like &#8220;Black Lives Matter&#8221; and &#8220;Stop White Supremacy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Gov. Ralph Northam announced he would remove the statue honoring the Confederate general, calling it &#8220;wrong&#8221; during a news conference.<\/p>\n<p>His effort has currently been stalled by a county circuit judge.<\/p>\n<p>The Lee statue is the largest of several monuments on Monument Avenue in Richmond that honor Virginian Confederate veterans of the Civil War<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__read-all\">\n<div><a href=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/lee-statue-before-and-after.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-101026\" src=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/lee-statue-before-and-after-186x333.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"806\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/lee-statue-before-and-after-186x333.jpg 186w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/lee-statue-before-and-after-167x300.jpg 167w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/lee-statue-before-and-after.jpg 721w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/10\/18\/us\/stone-mountain-confederate-removal.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stone Mountain granite carving<\/a>, a mere stone&#8217;s throw from CNN, is the largest obstacle to tackle for this movement.\u00a0 \u00a0But is it?<\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\">What&#8217;s the next logical step?\u00a0 \u00a0Renaming Washington D.C.?\u00a0 \u00a0Renaming Washington state?I have to say I have always found it oddly fascinating to observe first hand the South&#8217;s affection toward its Confederate generals but I don&#8217;t give it any thought beyond that.\u00a0 I have been saying for a while that if monuments continue to be torn down in the name of this country&#8217;s past sins with slavery, the next thing I predict will be heterosexual monuments &#8211; which could to some represent oppression.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve already got a USS Harvey Milk, so the trend has already been established.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not necessarily down on this trend, but I don&#8217;t think things should be driven by &#8220;whoever speaks the loudest is the most right.&#8221;\u00a0 There is a silent percentage of people that are fair-minded and will give people a wide path if they honestly feel disrespected, but there comes a point where they then feel disrespected.<\/p>\n<p>Coming back to the South, the Confederacy and the monuments &#8211; former Congressman Lieutenant Colonel Allen West had some excellent perspective about the focus being on the wrong thing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<h4 class=\"headline\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/lt-col-allen-west-confederate-monuments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lt. Col. Allen West on desecration of Confederate monuments: &#8216;History is not there for you to\u00a0like or dislike&#8217;<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>West explained that as a young officer in the\u00a0U.S. Army\u00a0he had served at places like Fort Bragg &#8212; named after Confederate General\u00a0Braxton Bragg &#8212; and commanded a battalion at Fort Hood in\u00a0Texas\u00a0which was named after Confederate General John Bell Hood.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I did not think about them as Confederate generals. I thought about the honor of\u00a0being able to serve on those\u00a0military installations,&#8221; he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And, one of the things that has me\u00a0absolutely incensed right now is\u00a0the fact that you had these\u00a0individuals [who] went up and defaced the monument,\u00a0the\u00a0memorial to the 54th\u00a0Massachusetts regiment\u00a0there in\u00a0Boston,&#8221; added West.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Renaming bases will not come cheap.\u00a0 There are signs, logos, reading and marketing materials, manuals, etc. that come with the change.<\/p>\n<p>In my opinion, an in-depth understanding of history is very similar if not complimentary to an in-depth understanding of the biology, chemistry, and physics of the world around you.\u00a0 Heck, people obtain PhDs in these fields and admit they don&#8217;t know everything.\u00a0 I doubt that many of them are out there among the crowds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"b-qt qt_121392\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><strong>&#8220;The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"b-qt qt_121392\" style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: right;\">&#8212; Bertrand Russell &#8212;<\/p>\n<p>The following goes for any heated debate about issues over the years and not necessarily this one&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I <strong>don&#8217;t<\/strong> mean to suggest that people out there expressing their First Amendment rights and conducting legitimate, peaceful protests are fools but it does frighten me that people with very little conceptual understanding of an issue tend to be less calm than someone that has spent the time acquiring a vast foundation of facts that contribute to their position on a certain subject.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Tend to be less calm&#8221; may be expressing this lightly &#8211; they tend to be passionate and somewhat intimidating.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t believe me?\u00a0 \u00a0Try saying &#8220;All Lives Matter&#8221; or &#8220;All LGBTQ+ rights&#8221; right now.\u00a0 Your job may be at stake.\u00a0 Not because you have a point, but because you dare to suggest something that deviates from the current narrative.\u00a0 This is bullying in my opinion and goes against the nation we stand for.<\/p>\n<p>If this is allowed to continue &#8211; I often ask people if they truly want the kind of &#8220;respect&#8221; that comes with people fearing you and are intimidated by you?\u00a0 Many don&#8217;t care and their knee jerk reaction is &#8220;yes, no question about it.&#8221;\u00a0 In my opinion, the more lucrative form of &#8220;respect&#8221; comes from earning it over time and having people see you make decisions under difficult circumstances.\u00a0 They see your bravery, they see your fairness.<\/p>\n<p>That latter kind of respect takes a lot of time and can only be seen in unique circumstances.\u00a0 Others would rather take a shortcut.<\/p>\n<p>By the way &#8211; <strong>Happy Flag Day<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-meta article-meta-lower\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In a recent article posted by CNN, they bring light to the fact that the General &hellip; <a title=\"Robert E.
