JPD: Local man shot last month was attempting to assault woman, now faces charges<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nJOHNSTOWN, Pa (WJAC) \u2014 Johnstown police say a man who was shot in Oakhurst Homes last month was attempting to assault the woman who shot him in self-defense, and that he has now been charged, according to a criminal complaint.<\/p>\n

Police say Terrell Dykes, 28, faces charges of felony aggravated assault, burglary and theft following the May 11th incident, according to court documents.<\/p>\n

The complaint states that on May 11th, police were dispatched to Oakhurst Homes for a report of a man with gunshot wound.<\/p>\n

When police arrived on scene, the complaint adds that officers found Dykes with a gunshot wound to his neck.<\/p>\n

Police say they then made contact with the suspected shooter, a woman who reportedly shot Dykes in self-defense.<\/p>\n

Authorities add that the woman reportedly told police that Dykes had been harassing her for approximately 18 months, and that on the morning of the incident, Dykes showed up at her home and broke in by kicking down her door.<\/p>\n

The woman added that prior to Dykes breaking into her home, she had grabbed her registered 9mm pistol and hid it in her waistband, according to the complaint.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nDENVER \u2014 A Colorado Department of Corrections (DOC) criminal investigator feared for his safety and that of his family when he opened fire, shooting and killing a 16-year-old burglary suspect in Montbello, Denver District Attorney Beth McCann said Thursday.<\/p>\n

In an exclusive interview with 9Wants to Know, McCann said Colorado law left her no choice but to close the case without filing any criminal charges against the officer.<\/p>\n

Alexis Mendez-Perez died April 23 after being shot in the back as he fled through the yard of a home owned by Desmond Manning, who has been with the DOC for 22 years.<\/p>\n

Mendez-Perez and several other teens had allegedly broken into a home behind Manning\u2019s and were fleeing police when the officer, who was off-duty, opened fire in his backyard.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a homeowner who was very \u2013 he was terrified,\u201d McCann said. \u201cThese guys come over his fence. He knows they\u2019ve just broken into a house and they are heading for him and his family.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo under those circumstances I concluded this was not a case that we could file.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mendez-Perez was struck by one round that hit him in the \u201cmid-back,\u201d according to an autopsy report.<\/p>\n

McCann acknowledged that fact troubled her.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

An intense manhunt for a gunman who wounded a San Luis Obispo County sheriff\u2019s deputy ended Thursday with an altercation that left two police officers wounded and the suspect dead, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Details of how the manhunt ended were not available. But a law enforcement source told the Los Angeles Times that two other officers were seriously hurt during a standoff with the suspect. The wounds do not appear to be life-threatening, the source said.<\/p>\n

The gunman is believed to have killed a Paso Robles resident and seriously wounded a San Luis Obispo County sheriff\u2019s deputy on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Mason James Lira, identified by police as the suspect, was spotted at a Paso Robles convenience store around 2 a.m. Thursday, a clerk told KSBY-TV.<\/p>\n

The Chevron gas station clerk described the bearded Lira as sweaty, exhausted and muttering to himself, the TV station reported. Lira, seen on surveillance video wearing jeans and a long-sleeve pullover, didn\u2019t do anything threatening, the clerk said, but he \u201cseemed crazy\u201d when he purchased an energy drink, according to the TV report.<\/p>\n

Lira, a 26-year-old transient from the Monterey area, was gone when authorities arrived at the gas station, San Luis Obispo County sheriff\u2019s Sgt. Steve Odom said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
