Man killed by Cleveland homeowner after being shot during robbery, police say<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nCLEVELAND, Ohio \u2014 A homeowner fired a fatal gunshot that killed a man seeking help after an armed robber shot him moments earlier, according to police.<\/p>\n

Jeffry Phillips, 58, died after being shot by two different people in a short span, according to Cleveland police and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner.<\/p>\n

The incident happened about 7 p.m. Sunday on Fullerton Avenue near East 71st Street in the city\u2019s Broadway-Slavic Village neighborhood.<\/p>\n

Phillips and a 68-year-old man sat in a car on the side of the road, when an armed robber approached their car, according to police. The robber, who police have not yet identified, shot into the car, hitting Phillips.<\/p>\n

Bullets also hit the 68-year-old man in the hand and stomach, according to police. He ran into a nearby field, where he collapsed. An ambulance took him to MetroHealth, where he was treated and released.<\/p>\n

Phillips ran up the driveway of a nearby home to ask for help. He ran inside the home and \u201cbecame aggressive\u201d with the homeowner, according to police.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nLos Angeles police detained a group of innocent people while a local reporter screamed that they were letting the would-be burglars get away.<\/p>\n

Police were responding to a confrontation between two groups: men who appeared to be trying to burglarize a nearby gold store, and others \u2014 some armed \u2014 who were trying to scare them off.<\/p>\n

In what a local newscaster termed “one of the most surreal moments” in an increasingly surreal time, Los Angeles police were seen on live television briefly detaining a group of people that had been attempting to deter what was described as would-be robbers, including the woman who had flagged them down.<\/p>\n

Reporting from the streets of Van Nuys, a reporter for Fox 11 Los Angeles captured a tense scene: one group of people approaching a store, while another group \u2014 including armed men \u2014 sought to scare them off.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
