Police investigating self-defense claim after deadly gas station shooting in Nashville<\/strong>
\nPolice say that Azon Smith, 24, is claiming he fatally shot Justin Sturgis, 34, out of self-defense on Friday, June 5, 2020 in Nashville, Tenn.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nNashville police are investigating a claim of self-defense in Friday’s fatal shooting in a gas station parking lot.<\/p>\n

Police say that Azon Smith, 24, is claiming he fatally shot Justin Sturgis, 34, out of self-defense. The deadly shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the parking lot of an Exxon gas station in the 800 block of South Gallatin Pike.<\/p>\n

The investigation shows that Sturgis and Smith were arguing inside the store, because Sturgis didn’t like the way Smith looked at him. Police say Sturgis made verbal threats toward Smith and his girlfriend, who works at the gas station, before displaying a gun. <\/p>\n

Sturgis drove away and Smith told police he attempted to follow him, which was unsuccessful. Police say Sturgis later returned and made threatening statements from his car. <\/p>\n

Smith told police that as Sturgis pulled back into the parking lot, he lifted up his shirt, which Smith perceived as him reaching for a gun. <\/p>\n

Police say Smith fired a gun at Sturgis, striking him multiple times. He was taken to Skyline Medical Center where he died. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

DA: South Philly gun shop owner ‘justified’ in shooting of 2 burglars, killing 1<\/strong><\/p>\n

PHILADELPHIA – District Attorney Larry Krasner on Friday announced charges against one of several men accused of attempted robbery at a South Philadelphia gun shop earlier this week, only to be met by a gun-wielding owner who fatally shot one and wounded another.<\/p>\n

Krasner also said the owner’s actions were “justified.”<\/p>\n

“The facts we know and the law are clear that the business owner\u2019s use of force while inside his own property against a burglar accompanied by others who was entering with a gun in his hand was justified,” the D.A. stated in a news release. “It is fortunate for the City of Philadelphia that this large cache of guns and ammunitions were not taken and sold on the street.\u201d<\/p>\n

Khaleef Brown, 17, has been charged with robbery, burglary, conspiracy and related charges stemming from his alleged involvement in a group armed robbery of the Firing Line gun store located on the 1500 block of South Front Street.<\/p>\n

Investigators say Brown and three other men arrived at the Firing Line around 4 a.m. Tuesday in multiple cars. The owner of the shop, whose name has not been released, was inside the building safeguarding inventory after reports of the recent spate of looting in Philadelphia.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
