Man acquitted of murder in deadly Delano shooting<\/strong>

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) \u2014 A Kern County jury on Thursday acquitted a man of second-degree murder in connection with a deadly shooting in Delano that occurred in May of last year.<\/p>\n

The jury deliberated for less than an hour before finding Enrique Batacan Quiniones acted in self-defense when he shot 33-year-old Alfonso Garcia Jr. in the 300 block of Balboa Drive.<\/p>\n

Quiniones, 22, is expected to soon be released from custody.<\/p>\n

Deputy Public Defender T. Alan Rogers said jurors decided that Quiniones had the right to defend himself by using a rifle to kill Garcia, a known gang member who was high on methamphetamine when he stabbed Quiniones on his property.<\/p>\n

Rogers said the jury\u2019s verdict was justice for Quiniones following a roughly 19-day trial that began in March before being delayed by the coronavirus.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was a team effort by the Public Defender\u2019s office in making sure the truth came out and the whole story was told,\u201d he said. \u201cThe jury communicated to me that it hopes the Delano Police Department carefully reviews all of the evidence before making another innocent man face murder charges.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nDOUGHERTY CO., Ga. (WALB) -Marlina Hamilton is a free woman and will not have to go to trial again for the death of her ex-husband, Christopher Donaldson.<\/p>\n

Hamilton was previously convicted of murdering Donaldson.<\/p>\n

She was granted a new trial that was appealed by the state several times.<\/p>\n

The Dougherty County District Attorney was set to argue in the state\u2019s highest court that she should not be immune from prosecution.<\/p>\n

But earlier this year, she was ultimately granted immunity from prosecution.<\/p>\n

Back in 2010, Hamilton testified that Donaldson repeatedly abused her before she shot him in self-defense.<\/p>\n

She was sentenced to life in prison.<\/p>\n

She has spent the last five years in prison before her release in 2016.<\/p>\n

Her attorney, William Godfrey, said for those in this same situation and looking for a second chance they should just continue to fight.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
