Be prepared to make a lot of it. Since it does best in a glass bowl, that is where you start. If you don&#8217;t have one, they&#8217;re still available on the store shelves and the bigger, the better.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Traditional Southern Seven Layer Salad \u2013 from Feast and Farm\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/feastandfarm.com\/traditional-seven-layer-salad\/\">https:\/\/feastandfarm.com\/traditional-seven-layer-salad\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>3\/4\u00a0head\u00a0iceberg lettuce\u00a0outer leaves and core removed<\/p>\n<p>1\u00a0cup\u00a0frozen peas\u00a0thawed<\/p>\n<p>4\u00a0hard boiled eggs\u00a0chopped<\/p>\n<p>3\/4\u00a0cup\u00a0chopped green onions<\/p>\n<p>2\u00a0medium\u00a0tomatoes diced\u00a0bite size pieces<\/p>\n<p>6\u00a0slices\u00a0bacon\u00a0cooked crisp and crumbled<\/p>\n<p>1\u00a0cup\u00a0shredded cheddar cheese<\/p>\n<p>1\u00a0cup\u00a0mayonnaise\u00a0like Duke\u2019s or Hellmann\u2019s<\/p>\n<p>1\u00a0cup\u00a0sour cream<\/p>\n<p>2\u00a0tablespoons\u00a0granulated sugar<\/p>\n<p>salt and pepper for sprinkling<\/p>\n<p><strong>Instructions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a 3 1\/2 quart glass bowl or trifle dish (make sure it\u2019s at least that large), chop the lettuce in to bite size pieces and add it to the bottom of the bowl in an even layer.<\/p>\n<p>Add a pinch of salt and pepper over the lettuce.<\/p>\n<p>Add the peas, eggs, onions, tomatoes, bacon and cheese, <strong>layering<\/strong> them closer to the edges of the bowl if you choose. Add another sprinkle of salt and pepper then set aside.<\/p>\n<p>In a medium bowl, mix the mayonnaise, sour cream and sugar. Stir well and spread over the top of the salad \u201csealing\u201d it all the way to the edge of the bowl. Sprinkle with a bit of cheese or bacon before serving, or cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to two days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: the secret to this dish is the dressing, and keeping the contents chilled once you&#8217;ve constructed it.
