Just in time for Memorial Day 2020, the self-purported Newspaper of Record, The New York Times, publishes an opinion piece on the supposed “celebration of white supremacy” in the US military. The evidence? All the installations in the South named after military leaders of the Confederacy. All those “racist traitors” according to the piece. I’d post a link but the op-ed is of course behind the NYT pay wall, and I refuse to donate. The pushback was swift.<\/p>\n
By: LAURA WIDENER<\/strong> Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman slammed The Times late Sunday night, saying in a tweet, \u201cOn a solemn day for remembering those that have given their lives for our country fighting against tyranny and subjugation, the NYT has more than a million possible stories of the ultimate sacrifice by American patriots that they could tell. But they don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cInstead they chose to attack the US military \u2014 the most diverse meritocracy in the country and the most powerful force for good in world history. We have many stories of valor still waiting to be told this Memorial Day weekend,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n The Times\u2019 piece published Saturday, titled \u201cWhy Does the U.S. Military Celebrate White Supremacy?\u201d took aim at Fort Benning, Fort Bragg, Fort Gordon, and other Confederate military leaders, labeling them \u201cracist traitors.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt is time to rename bases for American heroes \u2014 not racist traitors,\u201d the article said.<\/p>\n Sen.
