  • Brazil’s Bolsonaro takes a number for a US military base

    One of our usual suspects sent me this American Thinker link, which is a bit on the ironic side. It’s one of my daily go-to sites and I missed this article. There may be another reason as well, but without further ado:

    So much for Mitt Romney’s claim that the U.S. has alienated its allies.

    Actually, they’re lining up, and not just to be friends, but to ask for U.S. military bases stationed on their soil.

    When was the last time you heard of nations lining up to ask for U.S. military bases? Not under President Obama, that’s for sure.

    The latest is Brazil, whose new president, Jair Bolsonaro, put the idea on the table. The Russians over at RT News, naturally, noticed:

    Bolsonaro, dubbed the ‘Trump of the Tropics’ for his rhetoric, uncannily similar to that of US President Donald Trump, lived up to his nickname as he floated the idea of welcoming US soldiers on a permanent basis, reiterated his support for Israel, while calling Venezuela ‘a dictatorship’ and Russia its enabler.

    In an interview with SBT broadcaster on Thursday, Bolsonaro said that while he considers physical presence of foreign forces a symbolic move in a globalized word, he is open to the idea of hosting US troops on Brazilian soil.

    Brazil joins other nations that have requested military bases, starting with Poland, which offered to call its potential base “Fort Trump,” and to pay for it themselves, too. That interest is not hard to understand, because Poland has the Russian bear at its door, the bear is growling, the bear is bothering other nations, and the bear has been there before. It makes sense for the plains-covered country that always gets run over to have some big, bulky American troops in the vicinity to ensure that the bear thinks twice.

  • NBC reports Turkish President promised President Trump he’d finish ISIS in Syria

    The president of Turkey reportedly promises that his country will finish the fight against ISIS in Syria, according to an NBC News report on Saturday citing senior White House officials.

    Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan allegedly gave his word to President Trump as a “friend,” stating that if the U.S. were to pull out of Syria, Turkey would be able to handle the remaining ISIS fighters in the country’s northern region.

    Trump tweeted,

    I am in the White House, working hard. News reports concerning the Shutdown and Syria are mostly FAKE. We are negotiating with the Democrats on desperately needed Border Security (Gangs, Drugs, Human Trafficking & more) but it could be a long stay. On Syria, we were originally…

    ….going to be there for three months, and that was seven years ago – we never left. When I became President, ISIS was going wild. Now ISIS is largely defeated and other local countries, including Turkey, should be able to easily take care of whatever remains. We’re coming home!

    Trump claimed Middle Eastern countries and NATO allies such as Turkey, could handle the fight on terror. Maybe so, but I see no mention of the Kurds, and Turkey’s intentions towards them.

  • Judge Dismisses Stormy Daniels’ Defamation Lawsuit Against Trump

    Legal Insurrection reports on Monday, a federal judge dismissed Stormy Daniels’s defamation lawsuit against President Trump. When Trump suggested the porn actress lied about being told to keep quiet about their alleged relationship, Daniels then claimed Trump defamed her.

    Not only was the complaint dismissed, but Daniels was ordered to pay Trump’s legal fees.

    And the WaPo chimes in:

    A federal judge on Monday dismissed a lawsuit from adult film actress Stormy Daniels that claimed President Trump defamed her when he suggested she had lied about being threatened to keep quiet about their alleged relationship.

    Federal District Judge S. James Otero in Los Angeles had indicated during a late September hearing that he was skeptical of Daniels’s claim on First Amendment grounds. The ruling ordered Daniels, whose given name is Stephanie Clifford, to pay Trump’s legal fees.

    Trump attorney Charles Harder cheered Otero’s decision and said the amount of legal fees owed would be determined later.

    “No amount of spin or commentary by Stormy Daniels or her lawyer, Mr. Avenatti, can truthfully characterize today’s ruling in any way other than total victory for President Trump and total defeat for Stormy Daniels,” Harder said in an emailed statement.

    That makes yet another embarrassing loss for the creepy porn lawyer Michael Avenatti, who was most recently denied an audience with the Senate Judiciary Committee. And it places Trump in the nearly unheard of situation where a hooker pays the John.
