  • WLF Fight Song

    The Warrior Legacy Foundation has adopted “The Warrior Song” as it’s official “fight song”. I’m not a huge fan of the genre, but the video makes it pretty cool;

    If it gets you charged up enough, hit the Valour-IT donation button one last time – we’re so close to our Army Team’s goal, your donation might get us there.

  • More VALOUR-IT

    Cox and Forkum Valour IT

    In case you’d thought you’d missed your opportunity to give to VALOUR-IT, it’s still going on, so what are you waiting for? The Marines are still ahead of The Army – I think they all pawned their K-pots and their roomies’ stereoes.

    But here’s some motivators to get you Army guys to send some money – your exwife’s boyfriend can wait for a month for his beer money, can’t she?

    The Ballad of Captain Z;

    Are you going to let these guys beat you?

  • Um, VALOUR-IT

    We went to Little Creek, Virginia a few decades ago where the Marines introduced us to amphibious warfare. They began by taking us to their obstacle course and bragging about the course record set by a Marine and daring us to beat it. The instructors stood gape-jawed at the finish line as every person in the company beat their “course record”.

    I wrote that to write this;

    I’m not accustomed to not beating a Marine challenge. The Marines are a several hundred dollars ahead of the Army in the VALOUR-IT fundraiser, so what with it being payday and such, how about digging in. We’re almost at a third of our goal – so lets kick some Marine ass;

    I have other Marine stories I might relate through the weekend.

    There has been some speculation with regards to my relationship with Mothax of the BurnPit.  Let me set the record straight, like Romulus and Remus, Mothax and I were both suckled at the teat of a grey wolf as infants.  We are unsure of our parentage.  We communicate via telepathy (which we learned from Spooky 6) and while one travels, the other stares at ocelots and channels the other.

    Anyway, the Target/American Legion/Great Americans fund raiser for Bravo Troop 3-61 CAV is going great.  Nigh on perfect actually.  Wanted to share some pictures to get Lilyea off my back.

    2 quick things:

    1) Colorado Springs: I highly doubt that Stargate Command is located there at Cheyenne Mountain, cause I looked everywhere for Jafaa warriors and Col Samantha Carter.  Also, the Mayor had no clue what I was talking about.

    2) Minneapolis: When I arrived last night I was afraid to use the restroom at the airport, and nearly wet myself.  I feared I might accidentally tap and have a Senator or a cop come busting in.   I just want to thank you Senator Craig for my near-death experience.

    Anyway, here’s some pics.

  • Thanks to Target

    This post will remain at the top of the blog until Monday morning (scroll for newer posts). In reference to my post last night about thanking Target for their $50,000 donation to the troops of COP Keating, I’ll be updating it with your pictures as soon as you send it to me. If you’re too shy to take a picture, just send me a report of your visit or tell us about it in the comments – sometimes those are better than pictures. The first is (of course) from my crushgirl Tankerbabe with the local executive team leaders in Tennessee; David, Diana, Kara and William;

    So I went to my local Target (Wheaton Mall in Silver Spring, MD) and thanked the manager, Sule.

    Another loyal reader who doesn’t wish to be identified went to his local Target (#1164) in Austell, GA thanked thank the manager, John.

    Another reader writes;

    We made a beautiful sign and took off to thank our local Target .. but the manager couldn’t get in touch with her media relations department and she refused to take a picture with us… so, we gave her our thanks anyway and we took a picture outside after making some purchases. So this is Casey (my daughter) from NJ outside our local Target!

  • 1 dead, 8 injured in training accident (Updated)

    An Army helicopter crashed into a Navy ship off of Virginia’s coast early this morning killing one service member and sending eight others to the hospital. I guess it’s a tough reminder that training for war is just as difficult as the actual war.

    According to news reports, all of the survivors are stable, whatever that means.

    UPDATE at 1400Z23102009: More on the accident from the Associated Press;

    Service members were rappelling down a rope from the helicopter to the USNS Arctic around 8 p.m. Thursday off the Virginia coast near Fort Story when the crash happened, Navy spokeswoman Lt. J. G. Megan Issac said.

    The helicopter crashed into the ship’s stern and ended up on its side, Rear Adm. Mark H. Buzby, commander of the Military Sealift Command, said at a news conference Friday morning at Naval Station Norfolk. A small fire on the ship’s deck was quickly extinguished.

    “It was a routine visit, board, search and seizure exercise that takes place between Army and Navy units on a fairly regular basis,‘’ Buzby said, adding that ships like the Arctic are used because they are similar to merchant ships.

    The exercise trains the service members on how to quickly board a ship that might be threatened by pirates or terrorists, for instance, Buzby said.

    The Arctic has returned to Naval Station Norfolk, and the damaged helicopter remained aboard the ship.

    The names of the casualties haven’t been released yet.
