  • Calls for renewal of Assault Weapons Ban

    chuck-schumer-shooting-a-tech-9

    Democrats took to the airways today tripping over each other to get in front of a camera so they can be seen doing something, regardless of how useless. Joe Lieberman, reminding us why he isn’t really a conservative, called for a commission to investigate the relationship between video games and guns. Chuck Schumer, pictured above with a shit-eating grin and firing a Tech-9, called for a limit on magazine capacity. While Dianne Feinstein renewed her promise to reintroduce the 90s “Assault Weapons Ban”;

    “We’re crafting this one and it’s going to be done with care, it’ll be ready on the first day. I’ll be announcing House authors and we’ll be prepared to go. And I hope the nation will really help,” she told NBC’s “Meet The Press.”

    Feinstein also said she is confident the bill will have the support of President Obama, who has previously come out in favor of re-implementing the assault weapons ban.

    While the politicians were flapping their gums, a shooter in California was busting caps in a mall parking lot, more than 50 rounds, according to reports;

    Marcos Gurrola, 42, of Garden Grove was taken into custody by bicycle police officers patrolling around the open-air Fashion Island mall around 4:30 p.m., police spokeswoman Cathy Lowe said. She said he fired into the air and onto the ground in the parking lot near a Macy’s department store.

    No one was injured, but the gunfire caused panic, coming just a day after a gunman killed 26 children and adults at a Connecticut elementary school, and days after a deadly mall shooting in Oregon. Some of the shoppers in California on Saturday said they ran, screaming as they looked for a safe shelter.

    I don’t know how Mr. Gurrola could have been shooting all of those rounds, though. It seems that large capacity magazines have been illegal in California since 2001. Well, not illegal to possess them, but it’s illegal to sell them or borrow them, so unless he’s owned it since 2001 just so he could bust a bunch of caps eleven years later in a parking lot, he got a hold of it illegally somehow.

    The Chicago Sun-Times is waging war on rifles that are .223 caliber judging by the number of times the author uses “.223 caliber rifle” in this article. Just as a word of warning to the Sun-Times, there are handguns in .223 caliber, too. Thompson Center’s Contender comes to mind.

    And of course, Nanny Bloomberg took time time away from slapping babies’ bottles out of their mouths to run his own suck about guns and leadership – both subjects he’s out of his depth on;

    While Mayor Bloomberg said it is right for President Obama to console the grieving in Newtown, on the assault weapons ban he says it’s time for the president to stand up and lead.

    “His views on issues like this are the right views, but the president has to translate those views into action. His job is not just to be well-meaning, his job is to perform and to protect the American public,” said Bloomberg on NBC’s “Meet The Press.”

    Yeah, well, all the Feds can do is disarm law abiding Americans. The incessant “do something” coming from the emotional Left isn’t helpful in the “rational national discussion” they’re saying we should have. Neither are their calls for the death of the NRA President. Or their calls for rewriting the 2d Amendment out of the Bill of Rights.

    As if this whole thing couldn’t get more tawdry, the Westboro non-Baptist non-Church has decided to protest at the services in Newtown, but the hacktivists at Anonymous have finally done something useful and posted WBC’s contact information for their members.

    And, oh, yeah, the local Catholic Church in Newtown received a threatening phone call during services today, and State Police showed up with assault rifles to protect the evacuated parishioners.

  • James R. Albertson: What His Military Records Say

    Remember James R. Albertson?  You know, that guy Jonn wrote about last month who claimed he was a secret POW in Vietnam for 28 days, and who had received multiple Purple Hearts and a couple of Bronze Stars for “bravery”?  And whose son claimed his missions were “classified” – so presumably that’s why he doesn’t show up on any POW lists?

    Well, NPRC’s reply to a FOIA request concerning Albertson’s official records came in the mail the other day.  And it turns out there’s a different reason he’s not on any POW lists.

    His military records show no service in Vietnam.  None.  Zip.  Nada.

    His records also show no Purple Hearts or Bronze Stars – with or without “V” device.   In fact, Albertson’s records show no personal decorations of any kind.  The only decorations he received were one service medal (NDSM) and one unit award (AFOUA).

    Albertson served in the USAF from March 1966 to January 1969.  He was retired for “physical disability”.  His duty assignments were for training; then as a medical service specialist; an “R&S Clerk”; and a “duty status clerk”.  His duty stations were Lackland AFB (training), Sheppard AFB (more training), and Athenai Airport, Greece (medical clinic and support group staffs).  Sometime in late 1968 or early 1969, he returned to Scott AFB – where he was medically retired.

    Greece was Albertson’s sole overseas assignment.  For the benefit of those who might be severely geographically-challenged:  “Greece” and “Vietnam” ain’t exactly the same place.  (smile)

    NPRC’s reply to the FOIA on Albertson’s records can be found here; format is Adobe PDF.

    It’s sad when folks lie to their families about being some kind of “great war hero”.  Their surviving families invariably end up hurt badly when their lies are exposed after their demise.

    But what’s even worse is that this liar was able to get away with falsely claiming to be a Vietnam POW for years.

  • Lawyer: Military more worried about image than Manning

    According to the Associated Press, in a pre-trial motion today to get the charges against poor little Breanna Manning dropped, the judge heard about how the military confinement officials treated the little traitor, while he was being held at the Quantico Marine base in Virginia. The defense attorney seemed upset that the military was more concerned with their image than poor little Breanna;

    Defense attorney David Coombs said during closing arguments that the military was worried more about its image than about Manning.

    “They were more concerned with how it would look if something happened to Pfc. Manning … than they were about whether Pfc. Manning was actually at risk,” Coombs said. “Their approach was, `Let’s not have anything happen on our watch. Let’s not let anything happen that’s going to make us look bad.’”

    Well, that worked in Breanna’s favor didn’t it? The creature is still alive so Coombs can make payroll this month, right? Isn’t that the point?

    And Coombs would be howling to high Heaven if Manning had managed to hurt itself while in confinement.

    The article doesn’t say when the judge will arrive at a decision in the motion, but prosecutors claim that Breanna doesn’t have much of a chance of getting the charges dismissed, but it’s likely s/he will get credit for time served when s/he’s finally sentenced. That’s fine with me, if s/he gets a life sentence.

  • Manchin asks MTV to cancel “Buck Wild”

    I know this doesn’t have anything to do with the military or terrorism or much else, but I just felt the need to write about it. The Washington Times reports that West Virginia’s junior senator is publicly asking MTV to cancel their new show which hasn’t aired yet. The show is Named “Buck Wild” and centers around the lives of several West Virginia youths;

    Manchin’s office said Friday that he sent a letter to the president of the network saying the show profits off of “poor decisions of our youth.”

    The senator also said the show set to begin airing Jan. 3 plays to ugly, inaccurate stereotypes about the people of his home state.

    First of all, has Manchin been paying attention for the last several years? MTV has been profiting from the airing of “poor decisions of our youth” for a very long time. The network hasn’t been about music since the early 90s.

    Secondly, wouldn’t it be better if Senator Manchin asked the residents of my newest home state (my eighth) to stop being “ugly, inaccurate stereotypes”?

  • PSY-Wars

    Quick now, what do you get when you cross a potty-mouthed, semi-talented, little weasel with an Asian lounge lizard? Ah, correcto, amigo, such a mixto (just trying to maintain my diversity bonafides here, brothers and sisters) yields an opportunistic entertainer from the mysterious East who is rising atop a few, fleeting moments of fame. I speak, of course of PSY, the latest bit of superfluous foam and flotsam on the dying curl of the wave of his fifteen minutes of celebrity which is about to carry him over the normal cultural breakwaters and into the Inner Lagoon of the White House where anything remotely redolent of Hawaiian good times becomes instantly well received. He could only enhance his welcome by showing up in a 1980’s vintage van emitting that unique aroma of Choom, Choom, Baby, Choom, Choom.

    So what’s the beef with some second-rate Korean entertainer, sort of a Wayne Newton east, really east, being invited to the White House by our reality TV prez? What? You don’t think Gangnam Style has a place at the top levels and inner reaches of American government? Well, while you’re mulling that over, you déclassé flyover rubes, try these quoted lyrics from PSY’s musical repertoire back when he was just a tad unhappy with America’s role in the disestablishment of Al Qaeda in Southwest Asia:

    “Kill those f–ing Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives.”
    “Kill those f–ing Yankees who ordered them to torture.”
    “Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law and fathers”
    “Kill them all slowly and painfully.”

    Ah, well, certainly, as PSY now reminds us, those lyrics have to be subject to interpretation If you think they mean what they clearly state, then you are no doubt some knuckle-dragging conservative Neanderthal with no appreciation for liberal nuance. Good grief, you probably live in Kansas or one of those other nameless states of little consequence because of your lack of minority voters. And one thing is certain; as long as you continue to maintain that irrational, conservative, bull-headed tendency to believe your lyin’ eyes:
    You are absolutely nevah, evah gonna get invited to the White House, Bubba.

    Jonn adds: Our buddy and Gold Star Mother Debby Lee, was on Fox & Friends this morning discussing the PSY thing;

  • Quantico’s Iwo Jima Memorial defaced

    Tuesday night, some vandals took it upon themselves to deface the Iwo Jima Memorial at Quantico Marine Base by painting a pink stripe around it. Of course, I’d blame juvenile delinquents, but the juveniles might be those wretched hags of Code Pink – you know, the pink stripe. Not that they’re not juveniles, but they are rather long in the tooth.

    Military officials say the vandalism, a bright pink paint line around about half of the memorial’s base, happened Tuesday evening. Military police along with Prince William County police searched the area but did not find any suspects.

    Of course, the Code Pinkers are upset that their latest cause, Breanna Manning, was reportedly abused while he was a prisoner at Quantico, and his treatment has been in the news this week, so it stands to reason that little cretins would do something like this and then giggle about their “action”.

    Thanks to Toothless Dawg for the link.

  • Gangnam bile

    I first read this dust-up earlier about the South Korean “artist” Psy who is going to the White House this week because, ya know, the American Idol president has to surround himself with popular culture figures to win approval from the shallow voters who use that as a gauge instead of the issues which are affecting their livelihoods.

    I saw it at Michelle Malkin‘s (by the way, TSO is playing poker with her as I write this) and our buddies at ROKDrop. But, apparently, this PSY fellow did an anti-American rap a few years ago which goes like this;

    Kill those —— Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives
    Kill those —— Yankees who ordered them to torture
    Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law, and fathers
    Kill them all slowly and painfully

    Nice, huh? I guess he won’t be apologizing before he goes to the White House and dines on our taxpayer dime. But Pat sends us a link to the Washington Post which tries to mitigate Psy’s rap by explaining why he did that piece at the time;

    The 2004 performance is more complicated. In May of that year, an extremist group led by al-Qaeda’s Abu Musab al-Zarqawi captured a South Korean Christian missionary in Iraq. They demanded that Seoul cancel its plan to send 3,000 troops in support of the U.S.-led invasion and, when South Korea refused, sent a tape of his beheading to Al Jazeera. “Korean citizens, you were warned,” the executioner announced. “Your soldiers are here not for the sake of Iraqis, but for cursed America.”

    Koreans again took the streets in protest, first against the terrorists in Iraq, but then against the governments they saw as responsible for putting Koreans in harm’s way. “While most of the peninsula’s fury was directed towards terrorists in Iraq as well as Korean government policy, some anti-US military protesters seized the moment to put forth their cause,” Korea-based journalist Bobby McGill explains. “Once again, PSY was involved. This time he admonished not only the terrorists and then president Roh Mu-hyun, but he also allegedly unleashed a vitriolic condemnation of American military personnel and military brass.” That would be the song “Dear American,” lyrics from which are posted above.

    Oh, so terrorists behead a Korean and it’s our fault? That makes perfect sense now. I completely forgive him for wishing slow painful deaths on our troops and their families. Or probably not. The Post goes on to explain about some nationalist policy that had the Koreans’ Kimchi boiling about reconciling the differences between the North & South, something that had absolutely no chance of coming to pass with or without Americans involved.

    But apparently we’re supposed to understand this rap rant about slow painful deaths being wished for our troops and their families, and forgive Psy and applaud him and shower him with our consumer dollars because, after all, he’s just an artist being artsy. Personally, I wish him a slow and painful death, along with the rest of his family, as well as the same fate for anyone who ever applauded him or gave him a dime.

    And with Obama and Psy in the same building, if I were Bo, I’d be worried about what they plan on serving that night.

    ADDED: Apparently Psy has apologized in the Daily News; ” I’m deeply sorry for how these lyrics could be interpreted”. I don’t know how many interpretations there could have been to the very explicit lyrics.

  • Breanna’s panties discussed in testimony

    According to the Associated Press, Marine Corps Master Sgt. Brian Papakie had to explain himself today in court when he was asked if a comment he made about Breanna Manning’s panties was intended to be anti-gay;

    Papakie testified on cross-examination about a memo he wrote after the brig commander ordered Manning stripped of his underwear each night starting March 2, 2011. Manning stood naked at attention for a prisoner count the next morning, causing a stir that prompted Papakie to write an email to ensure it didn’t happen again.

    “Make sure he is not standing at attention naked for evening count right before taps. You should be taking his panties right before he lays down,” Papakie wrote.

    Under questioning by defense attorney David Coombs, Papakie said he uses the word interchangeably with “skivvies” and “underwear” when discussing men’s undershorts.

    “I’ve always used the phrase, `Don’t get my panties in a bunch,’ which is what I tell the staff all the time,” he said.

    Papakie acknowledged that he knew Manning was gay but said he didn’t consider the word “panties” homophobic. He conceded that it was not professional to use the term in a memo.

    But the master sergeant had good reason to refer to Manning’s drawers as panties, it seems.

    [Marine Corps Master Sgt. Craig] Blenis referred to a letter Manning had signed “Breanna Manning,” an alias he had used on occasion. The defense revealed at a hearing last year that Manning had written to a supervisor in Baghdad before his arrest, saying he suffered from gender-identity disorder. He included a picture of himself dressed as a woman and talked about how it was affecting his ability to do his job and think clearly.

    So, why does the defense have their panties in a bunch?
