  • Cops Display Sense of Humor on New Years Eve

Krispy Kreme 2 by Lexington Police Department.

New Years Eve. You could feel the massive excitement coming from humanity. Your mind goes in different directions pondering what the final hours of the old year will be like. This excitement increases as the new year gets closer.

But, when you have many people drinking alcohol, you have the potential for things to go south. Certain professions require their professionals to be on duty, ready to put their training to work on New Years Eve, and into the New Year.

Police officers are among these professionals. These police officers, across multiple police departments, take an opportunity to display humor.

    From Fox News:

A few Kentucky cops went viral for mourning the loss of a truckload of doughnuts.

The driver of a Krispy Kreme doughnut truck noticed his vehicle was smoking on New Year’s Eve, so he called 911.

And while the driver was able to safely escape before fire crews arrived and flames engulfed the truck, the doughnuts didn’t make it.

Moral support came from other police departments, more from Fox News:

“No words,” the officers wrote, and their colleagues from across the nation – from Colorado to Chicago – were quick to respond with messages of support.

“We feel your loss,” the University of Kentucky Police Department wrote. “We donut what else to say.”

Officer once fired for lying resigns after military service questioned.

Skidmark sends us the story about a San Antonio police officer who won his job back last year after being indefinitely suspended that has now resigned from the department amid new allegations and is now facing criminal charges.

Questions arise about Martin’s service in U.S. Marine Corps

In the arbitration ruling it was stated Martin “spent approximately 4 years honorably serving in the United States Marine Corps,” which he followed up with a stint in the US Secret Service “as a highly trained member on the presidential protective detail.”

In March of this year, the Defenders received an anonymous letter which raised questions about Martin’s military service.
The letter stated: “This is not true. I find it interesting and quite upsetting that someone would lie about serving in the Marine Corps, but apparently this is just what officer Martin did because I can assure you he was not a Marine.”

A search of Martin’s official Texas Commission on Law Enforcement records revealed more troubling information.

Records show Martin began working for the Wilson County Sheriff’s office in January 2017, during his suspension from SAPD, and that he has continued to be employed there for a year and 8 months, which overlapped his service at SAPD when he was returned to duty.

SAPD said it did not approve Martin to work for an outside agency.

The Defenders have asked the Marines and the U.S. Secret Service for Martin’s service records which have not yet been provided. A person who works in the records department, however, confirmed Martin joined the Marines in July 1997, but said it appeared he never graduated from boot camp.

The Defenders have tried to contact Martin through his attorney for a comment, but he has not responded.

  • Former Democrat Staffer Arrested for Doxing GOP Senators

    doxxer

United States Capitol Police (USCP) arrested a suspect yesterday on charges he allegedly posted private and identifying information on Wikipedia about a Republican senator, an act known as doxing. The incident occurred last Thursday, shortly after Christine Blasey Ford’s testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

    USCP released the following statement:

Today, the United States Capitol Police arrested the Suspect who allegedly posted private, identifying information (doxing) about one or more United States Senators to the internet.

Jackson A. COSKO, age 27, of Washington, D.C., has initially been charged with 18 USC § 119 Making Public Restricted Personal Information; 18 USC § 1512(b)(3) (Witness Tampering); 18 USC § 875(d) (Threats in Interstate Communications); 18 USC §1030(a)(3) (Unauthorized Access of a Government Computer); 18 USC § 1028(a)(7) (Identity Theft); DC Code § 22-801(b) (Second Degree Burglary), and DC Code §22-3302 (b) (Unlawful Entry).

The investigation will continue and additional charges may be forthcoming.

Cosko was recently an unpaid intern for Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), according to Roll Call, which also reported:

[Cosko] previously worked for Democratic Sens. Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire and California’s Barbara Boxer, who has since retired. Cosko was most recently listed in the Senate directory phone book as Hassan’s “legislative correspondent/systems administrator.” His LinkedIn profile says he left Hassan’s office in May 2018.

This cowardly act is plainly intended to harass and intimidate the targeted Republican politician(s), and is especially dangerous considering the current poisoned political atmosphere in DC and elsewhere. Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Orrin Hatch (R-UT), and Mike Lee (R-UT) had personal and identifying information posted on Wikipedia.

Fox News reported that Cosko either worked or interned for Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and for retired Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) as well.

  • Marietta officers in action

    Marietta officers in action

    Someone sent us the story of two Marietta, Georgia police officers, Maria Funes, a thirteen-year Army Reserve Staff Sergeant and Rocky Ellenson, a Marine Sergeant with five years active duty experience;

On Saturday morning, June 30th at approximately 6:41 AM Cobb County 911 dispatched Marietta Police Officers to a report of suspicious activity at 248 Aviation Road. The homeowner reported an unfamiliar vehicle had just parked in their yard and the driver was now stumbling around the area acting suspiciously.

When Officers arrived a few minutes later, the vehicle was parked in the lawn, unoccupied. Witnesses in the area directed the Officers to the back-parking lot of a nearby school. When Officer Maria Funes confronted the suspect, he quickly turned to run away with Officer Funes in pursuit. Officer Rocky Ellenson was approaching from the side and was also running to intercept the fleeing suspect when they both observed the suspect stop abruptly, square off toward Funes and attempt to draw a black handgun from his waist. Before he could actually point the gun, Officer Ellenson tackled him, wrapped his arms around him and knocked the gun out of his hand. Both officers restrained the suspect on the ground where he fought with them for more than two minutes before placing him in handcuffs.

The officers had eleven seconds from the time the suspect ran, stopped, drew his weapon and was taken to the ground. The split-second decisions they both made are a testament to their years of training and service to our country as well as the residents of Marietta.

It was later discovered the vehicle is registered to the suspect, Josiah Benjamin Moorhous. Moorhous has an extensive violent history including fighting with law enforcement. He was booked into Cobb Adult Detention Center on warrant 18-W-6132 and is facing the following charges:

    Aggravated Assault Officer (F)
Obstruction / Hindering Law Enforcement (M)
    VGCSA Possession Cocaine (F)
Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (F)
Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony – Controlled Substance (F)
    DUI Drugs (M)
    Driving, Expired Tag (M)
    Driving, No Insurance (M)

After reviewing the film of this incident, it is clear that the use of deadly force by the officers would have been justified, yet the officers used their experience, skills and good judgement to prevent the situation from becoming deadly.

  • NJ Trooper Michael Patterson meets the man who brought him into the world

NJ Trooper Michael Patterson meets the man who brought him into the world

    The New Jersey State Police tell the story;

On Friday, June 1, Trooper Michael Patterson stopped Matthew Bailly for a minor motor vehicle violation in Kingwood Township. During the initial conversation, Mr. Bailly told Trooper Patterson that he was a retired Piscataway police officer. Trooper Patterson, being a Piscataway native, told Mr. Bailly that he is from the same town. Now here’s where things get interesting…

Mr. Bailly asked Trooper Patterson where he used to live. When Trooper Patterson told him that he grew up on Poe Place, Mr. Bailly said that he remembered that street, because he helped deliver a baby there 27 years ago when he was a rookie cop. He was even able to describe the color, style of house, and the baby’s name, Michael.

Trooper Patterson extended his hand and replied, “My name is Michael Patterson, sir. Thank you for delivering me.”

    […]

So, Trooper Patterson and his mother visited Mr. Bailly and his wife at their home where they took these photos! They all felt this story was so uplifting, it needed to be shared, and we agree! After all, as a police officer, you don’t always get a chance to have a moment like this with people you once helped in your career!

The article doen’t say whether Patterson ticketed Bailly.

  • Officers Cleared in Denton Shooting

    Denton Tx

Jonn seems to be Winchester on Feel Good Stories today, so I found an update from an incident that occurred in Denton, Texas last March.

Police officers involved were cleared in the killing of Lawrence Shaw. Body-cam footage shows knife-brandishing Shaw advancing on the officers, ignoring their orders, and continuing his attack even after being tased twice.

    Dallas Daily News Link

A Denton officer fatally shot a man who police said pulled out a knife and taunted officers before advancing toward them Monday afternoon.

Two officers were working on a vehicle crash report about 3:15 p.m. in their patrol car in the 2000 block of Spencer Street when a man approached the rear of their vehicle and began yelling at the officers, said Lt. Lonny Haschel with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The officers got out to check on the man and saw him pull out a knife. He “taunted” the officers and started to walk away, he said.

The officers told the man to stop, but he ignored them and disappeared into a wooded area. When he reappeared from the trees, he was reportedly holding the knife again and being “very aggressive” toward the officers, Haschel said.

One officer used a Taser on the man, but he got up off the ground and threatened the officers again, he said.

When the man advanced, one officer fired his weapon, striking the man. The officers performed first aid and called for emergency services, but the man died at the scene.

The Tarrant County medical examiner’s office identified the man as 45-year-old Lawrence Shaw.

PCP is a hell of a drug. Caution, video is from the officer’s body-cam and depicts extreme violence.

The suspect, identified as 19-year-old former student Matthew A. Milby, was taken into custody, and no one else was injured in the gunfire exchange, authorities said.

Late Wednesday, officials confirmed that they have charged Milby with felony aggravated discharge of a weapon and set his bond at $2 million. Illinois State Police said the investigation continues and more charges could be forthcoming.

    From CNN;
