  • No jail for Shane Ladner

    No jail for Shane Ladner

    According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, valor thief Shane Ladner will get no jail time for lying on his application for employment with the Cherokee County, Georgia Sheriff’s Department, for providing forged government documents for his Purple Heart license plates and for providing forged government documents as evidence in the court case against him.

    A former Holly Springs police officer who lied about being a Purple Heart recipient to get free license plates was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years on probation while avoiding jail time.

    Shane Ladner must also perform 600 hours of community service and pay $6,000 in restitution to Cherokee County, District Attorney Shannon Wallace told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in an email. Ladner was sentenced as a first offender.

    A jury convicted Ladner on May 28 of five counts of making false statements and one count of theft by taking after he claimed he earned the medal, awarded for combat wounds, when he was injured in Panama in 1989 during the operation to capture President Manuel Noriega, The AJC previously reported. He was found not guilty on one theft charge.

    Ladner also tried to sue Atlanta’s Fox 5 because they exposed his lies. They won the case last year, with a little help from TAH and our expert staff, but obviously, the judge didn’t think that trying to pull the wool over the court’s eyes is anything to be upset about.

    Ladner and his lawyer made up stories about his secret Purple Heart and claimed the orders and citation were stored at Fort Benning, Georgia and in a Panamanian cancer hospital, but not at the NPRC in Missouri.

  • Kyle Barwan arrested in Ayer, Massachusetts

    Kyle Barwan arrested in Ayer, Massachusetts

    So, the most arrestable phony in the history of the United States, Kyle Barwan is in custody once again. He was supposed to remain under the stern gaze of his parole officer in Polk County, Florida, where he was most recently confined for using his phony military persona to scrounge money from unsuspecting and well-meaning patriots. But he left Florida for cooler climes, and then he was back to his old habits. Until….

    I guess he was up to his old tricks and someone complained so the the local Ayer, Mass. PD picked him up on the Florida warrant on September 29th.

  • Jose Rolon; update on a phony SEAL

    Jose Rolon; update on a phony SEAL

    Last month we talked a bit about Jose Rolon when Don Shipley busted him for telling lies about his Navy service for no real purpose than to fill a hole in his heart – the charity says that they would have helped him anyway, even if he wasn’t a SEAL or wounded in combat.

    Well, we got his FOIA just to do the paperwork;

    He spent six years on active duty in the Navy and two years in the Navy Reserves as an Aviation Ordanceman 2 Class (E-5) and stationed at Guantanamo and NAS Norfolk. But no, no SEAL training. The Citrus County Chronicle also reported that he claimed a Purple Heart for wounds, but npoe, no wounds, no time in combat – he was in Norfolk for Desert Storm and Somalia and Guantanamo for Just Cause.

    If he engaged in combat it was in Pinellas County lockup.

  • Frankie Starz aka Frank Roberto; phony combat Marine

    Frankie Starz aka Frank Roberto; phony combat Marine

    Our partners at Military Phonies share their work on this fellow Frank Roberto who wrestles professionally under the name Frankie Starz. He claims that he served in Marine Recon units and with the elite ANGLICO (Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company).

    He claims these awards, including the Combat Action Ribbon and, of course, jump wings;

    Even in conversations on social media;

    But, the National Personnel Records Center disagrees;

    He served a little over two-and-a-half years, he earned the Southwest Asia Service Medal (with one service star, not the two stars that he has on his ribbon in the picture above) because he was in Kuwait after Desert Storm for some reason, so, no, there’s no Combat Action Ribbon.

    And, oh, he went AWOL for a couple of days which eventually led to some corrective custody time and probably resulted in his early discharge. But, there’s no record of him being assigned to a Recon unit or ANGLICO, there’s no airborne training – everyone wants to wear the wings, no one wants to lug the parachute off the Drop Zone.

    I guess all of these entertainers went AWOL while they were punching their tickets in the Marines.

  • Paul Bennett Knox; repeat phony SEAL

    Paul Bennett Knox; repeat phony SEAL

    This scroungy-looking grotesque turd, Paul Knox, we busted over three years ago, but the folks at Military Phonies says he’s still at it. He claims that he was a Navy SEAL from 1969 – 1975 and of course, he was injured in Vietnam.

    Yep. Two Purple Hearts and a Navy Cross and senior chief petty officer chevrons on his fat ass. All that was accomplished in 29 days;

    Yep, he spent 29 days in the Navy and left as an E-1.

    By the way, he was born in 1957, so he’s claiming that he went to Vietnam when he was 12 years old. That damned math thing again.

  • Christopher Hoel; phony SEAL

    Christopher Hoel; phony SEAL

    Our partners at Military Phonies share their work on Christophe Hoel who claims to be a Navy SEAL, of course, there’s a vest, and the SEAL Trident is sown on the back down at the bottom;

    Yeah, no. He got out of the Navy after less than two-and-a-half years as a Fireman Apprentice (E-2). No BUD/S training, no SEAL assignments;

  • James Genereaux; Canadian valor thief in jail

    From our friends at Stolen Valor – Canada, the story of James Genereaux who met a woman online, told he was a member of the Canadian military and the proceeded to drain her accounts;

    James Genereaux, 36 of Trenton, was arrested…after officers with the Napanee Detachment of the OPP responded to a report of theft in Loyalist Township on Sept. 22.

    The victim reportedly met a man on an online dating site, claiming to be a member of the Canadian military.

    The suspect befriended the victim and moved into the victim’s home within a month and began stealing money from her.

    According to the Ottawa Sun, he was also impersonating a police officer;

    James Genereaux is charged with personating a peace officer, personating a peace officer while using a uniform….

    He’s been charged with three counts of theft. But stolen valor is a victimless crime.

  • Richard Hanlon; phony Green Beret

    Our partners at Guardians of the Green Beret send us their work on this fellow Richard “Rich” Hanlon. Rich claims to be Ranger and Special Forces qualified;

    The folks at Guardians of Green Beret struck up a conversation with him on social media;

    Rich replied he was 1st Group Ft Lewis and 1SOG Cape Canaveral, late 70’s early 80’s. We’re not even sure what the heck he means when he says 1SOG Cape Canaveral as there’s no such unit. He then goes on to volunteer he went through Class 5 Ranger School, Benning, Steward, Tallahassee FL 1976 or 77. Winter class, honor grad. Rich goes on to add that he was 1st Group Ft Lewis and 1SOG Cape Canaveral, late 70’s early 80’s. MOS 11B2V… 1st 323, SF was 18

    So lets look at these statements:

    1st SFG(A) claims at Ft Lewis Late 70’s to early 80’s

    Of all the years Rich Hanlon, Fake Green Beret could pick, those are probably the worst. 1st Grp was Group inactivated 28 June 1974 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and reactivated 4 September 1984 at Fort Lewis, Washington. Late 70’s is after 74 and Early 80’s is before 84. He should have done some more research in his lie.

    Class 5 Ranger School, Benning, Steward, Tallahassee FL 1976 or 77

    Ranger Class 5-76 or 5-77 doesn’t fall in “Winter” class time. Steward is spelled Stewart. Ranger School has nothing in Tallahassee. He should have said 6th RTB @ Eglin.

    Also, almost all Rangers remember their class number. They instill it into their memory banks. For him to not even remember the year? LOL

    11B2V, 1st 323, and SF was 18

    V would mean he had a Ranger Tab. That’s a false statement. Confirmed by both RTB and his FOIA results. 1st SFG(A) wasn’t even in existence in the years he claims. “If” his claiming 18 as an MOS, he should have add 18C. Had he actually been an 18C, he’d have known that.

    So, he didn’t research his lies very well;

    We do see an 18 series on his 2-1 however, this is only a slot he filled. Nothing in his records backs up his ability to claim being a Green Beret. We see zero time in his records as having attend, much less graduating the Special Forces Qualification Course. His records also confirm beyond doubt he has no right to claim to have earned the Ranger Tab.

    Assigned to a Ranger unit, yes. Ability to wear the Ranger Tab, no.

    Assigned to a Special Forces unit, yes. Ability to claim being a Green Beret, No
