  • Code Pink on defense

    Apparently, Code Pink is suffering some popular backlash because of their antics recently. One of them wrote an especially loooonnnngggg post in their blog this morning (at 4:35 AM….jeez maybe their problem is a lack of beauty rest) entitled “To The Haters…” in which they disparage us for pointing out they’re ugly, shrieking harpies;

    You like to say that we’re “ugly” and we’re “scum.” You like to disparage our intelligence and patriotism. Sometimes you make threats: “If I see you agian I’ll stop you,” and “If I see you bitches I will do something horrible to you.” More than one of you suggested we should be “hanged.”

    Nice.

    (Just who are supposed to be the “ugly” ones here?)

    Take a good sober look over some of your recent posts… Most of them are about wounding, involving crude sexual references, misogyny, bigotry, and hate… there’s hardly an American sentiment in the bunch.

    Do you really want to sound like some hick counterpart to the Taliban, with your hatred of women, intolerance of views with which you disagree, and your threats of violence?

    Do ANY of you consider yourselves Christians, I wonder? How so… by what definition? (Ku Klux Kristians? That variety?)

    Sweet. Tell people to stop calling them names while calling their detractors names. Here’s a few reasons I call them ugly;

    DSC_0081

    I have more pictures, but I think you get the idea. I call them ugly because…well…they’re ugly.

    They go on and explain why they’re “flamboyant”;

    Because we’re flamboyant and because we refuse to be silenced, we sometimes get results.

    And those results are? Fundraising? Inflated egos? The war is still going on…you’ve accomplished nothing except proven yourselves buffoons and tools of your communist masters.

    Oh, and their analysis of the “surge” shows how keenly they grasp the whole concept;

    You poor schmucks actually believe that the troop Surge is behind the drop in violence in 2008 Iraq!

    But here’s the straight dope, regarding the Surge: There’s no question that the ethno-sectarian cleansing and walling up of Baghdad helped somewhat (the very bloody first phase of the Surge), but the real key to the drop in violence, per most American military officers on the ground, was putting 100,000 members of al Qaeda in Mesopotamia (AQM) on the U.S. payroll — giving them each $300/month, arms, and U.S. training to chill out for a while…

    Notice she didn’t say that we pay the Iraqi Army or the Iraqi police, she says we pay the INSURGENTS, that we pay AL QAEDA. But they add the proviso;

    It’s no reflection on our brave troops, but rather a poor reflection on our dismal politicians….

    Yuh-huh. Those brave troops they refer to are the folks who are coming back and telling us how the surge has worked. Those brave troops are the folks who bear the brunt of your ill-reasoned criticism. I guess we should get some pleasure that they’ve admitted that there is indeed a drop in violence in Iraq…small pleasure.

    Well, if Code Pink is really nonpartisan, and they only want to stop the war with their “flamboyance” (a term I usually reserve for the gender-confused), why didn’t they interupt Barack Obama’s speech to the DNC? He’s admitted that he’ll continue the current administration’s policy in the war against terror. Why didn’t they interupt Joe Biden’s speech? He voted for the use of force in Iraq and had been advocating for dethroning Hussein for more than half-a-decade before the latest war in Iraq.

    Since we know that Jodie Evans, co-founder of Code Pink. is a top bundler of contributions for Obama (on the same level as Hollywood moguls), we all know how non-partisan Code Pink really is, don’t we?

    The same goes for Code Pink’s beard, Adam Kokesh – our future Democrat Presidential candidate in the mold of John Kerry. I know the excuse of IVAW for not interrupting Obama’s speech will be that he accepted their list of demands…in reality, SOME GUY who said he was from the Obama campaign took thier letter, while no one in the McCain campaign was willing to pretend to take their list of demands. Yeah, big difference you wantwit dorks.

    Thanks for playing our game.

  • Shiftless hippies unimpressed by IVAW

    Photo from People’s Press Collective

    Readers may remember back in March the IVAW put out a call to ANSWER, World Can’t Wait, Code Pink, et al. to hold off their protests on the March 15th anniversary of the Iraq War so that the IVAW/VVAW/VFP/SEIU could conduct their Winter Soldier II theater at Silver Spring, MD without competing for the attention of the media. WSII fizzled and got virtually no attention from the media (despite a large presence of media) and a result, the protest against the war which happened five days later, on a Wednesday, drew less than a thousand protesters and, in turn, fizzled out, too. Many of the non-IVAW protest organizations blamed the IVAW for their piss poor performance.

    Well, that bit of history seems to be repeating itself. According to one of the shiftless hippies caught in the theater of the IVAW yesterday;

    It was at this point I started to wonder that we’re doing as well in Iraq as we are.  If these tactical geniuses are any indication of the military resources we have at our disposal, it’s a wonder every one of them hasn’t been slaughtered.

    Anyway, back at Larimer and Speer, the I.V.A.W. negotiated some more (with someone), declared that the delegates had heard their message (somehow), and disbanded.

    […]

    The problem is that the I.V.A.W. assholes had put a call out to the more militant protesters, claiming that they were gonna end the march by breaking through police lines and doing their damndest to confront the delegates face to face.   As such, they had a few hundred folks in the march who were ready and willing to put their bodies on the line for the assholes, and ended up wasting the entire day being herded around by police and ordered about by Medea Benjamin types.

    I guess, I’d  point out to this shiftless hippie that these are largely the military’s rejects. Their tendancy to lie and their inability to lead is generally a result of living among the American population, not a result of their training.

    I’d also pass along a warning to the Minnesota law enforcement – since Kokesh and Millard are there getting ready for next week’s protests, I’ll be betting they’re going to try and bulid their reputations up a bit. This may be their last chance. Kokesh has been willing to get arrested on countless occasions in the last year and he has yet to pay a price…he keeps testing his boundaries and since this war is winding down, he’s losing his cachet. I’d expect a grand last gasp gesture next week.

  • Back to the IVAW Theater

    The street theater that got Adam Kokesh in trouble last summer in DC has been brought to Denver. Pretending they’re on a patrol, IVAW members start face-planting random spectators as if they were suspects in terrorist attacks;

    Suddenly one of the soldiers announced that they were looking for a suspect wearing an orange bandana, who they suspected of planting roadside improvised explosive devices (IEDs). At that the GIs began forcing nearby pedestrians face-first up against a wall and yelling at them to “shut the fuck up.” One man was pinned to the ground in what looked like a stress position. The police officers, from Denver and surrounding towns, did nothing. They had been informed days before, one officer told me, that the Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) were coming to town and preparing to engage in nonviolent street theater on Tuesday and Wednesday. The scared pedestrians pinned to the wall and the sidewalk, I learned, were volunteers. This was all just acting.

    Now, see, here are some more examples of what I’ve been saying for the last six months. IVAW says they support the troops, that they’re only targeting the political leadership, but the political leadership isn’t pinning Iraqis against the wall, or shoving their faces into the pavement. The troops are. The behavior that IVAW claims to be aping is the behavior of our troops. They are intentionally turning public opinion against our warriors to accomplish their political goals. Here’s some video of it;

    [youtube z4LZXm8y-V4 nolink]

    The fellow in uniform in the top picture is wearing a combat patch of the 1st COSCOM (Corps Support Command) which supports the 18th Airborne Corps which, in turn, supports the 101st and 82nd Divisions. This fellow served three echelons behind the front. How many patrols do you suppose he’s been on? My guess is that this was the first time he’d ever seen the process, too. How accurately do you figure he can recreate the effect based on second- or third-hand shit house rumors?

    In the same vein is an article Raoul sent me last night about Adam Kokesh’s latest attempt to smear the troops. He claims that they’re smuggling alcohol into the Iraq theater in violation of their orders. He makes it seem like the practice is wide spread based on his own smuggling practices four years ago. Keep in mind that Kokesh also tried to smuggle an Iraqi pistol back from Iraq, too.

    Now, I don’t know if the practice is wide spread or not, I only know that I’ve never sent alcohol to anyone over there, nor would I if asked. But, Kokesh can only speak about his narrow experiences as well. There’s no way he can broadly paint our troops as closet alcoholics drinking brake fluid behind the motor pool with any accuracy. He can’t get away with recycling the old Vietnam era rumor that our troops were drug addicts in these new days of urinalysis, but he figures he can still make them seem to be substance abusers.

    Before you climb on your high horse, Army Sergeant, think about what these disingenuous portrayals of our soldiers and Marines are doing to their mental health now and down the road.

    And crap like this from Kokesh doesn’t help much either;

  • IVAW drama queens in Denver

    Army Sergeant complains that the Denver Police are looking for potential “direct action” perpetrators. I guess this little monument to drama completely escaped the police;

    Here are the anti-war heroes of the IVAW in Denver. All the Left loves them.

  • Beauchamp lives

    Its been a year since I first wrote about the now infamous fablist Scott Thomas Beauchamp, and now he figures it’s safe to stick his head up again. Spencer Ackerman, a former writer for The New Republic tries to lend credence to Beauchamp’s fables and to defend The New Republic at the same time. I guess they both figured no one was paying attention anymore when Radar Magazine agreed to publish “Notes on a Scandal“. I’d take the time to slice it up, but Bob Owens did such a fine job at Pajamas Media ahead of me.

    In “Notes on a Scandal,” Ackerman interviews Scott Beauchamp and Elspeth Reeve — and no one else — and shockingly comes to the conclusion that the magazine that fired Ackerman for his anti-war views was wrong to pull its support for a series of articles (”Shock Troops” was just one of three Beauchamp stories) that reinforced those views.

    How did Ackerman conduct this investigation? He hung out with Beauchamp and Reeve at a bar and later communicated with them via email. What he did not do is present any evidence to support the contention that Beauchamp’s claims are true, or that Franklin Foer was wrong to pull support for stories that still lack on-the-record evidence of any kind.

    Ackerman still relies on everyone to stop paying attention so he can get away with lying and not presenting any new evidence to support his side. It’s beyond me why they still think they can hide behind their “evil Army bullies” story that supposedly prevents them from proving their side. I’ll also never understand why they’re so willing to defend this single liar and continue throwing themselves on the grenade for him. Beauchamps certainly didn’t do them any favors.

    Last October, on the word of Michael Yon, I gave Beauchamp a free pass because his chain of command said he was soldiering. Well all bets are off, since he wants to stand by his stories again. (h/t Ace of Spades)

  • Deserter goes on trial today (UPDATED)

    Robin Long, the first deserter to be deported from Canada since the Vietnam War goes on trial today at Fort Carson, Colorado. He’s made a deal to plead guilty so it should be a short trial (SFGate link);

    Pvt. Robin Long, 25, of Boise, Idaho, faces up to three years in prison and a dishonorable discharge, civilian defense attorney James Branam said Thursday.

    Long went to Canada in 2005, but authorities there denied his request for refuge and deported him in July of this year.

    Branam said Long has reached an agreement with prosecutors to plead guilty to desertion with intent to remain away permanently, a lesser charge than desertion with intent to shirk hazardous duty.

    The Left blames the Conservative Canadian government and their commitment to the Afghanistan War for the deportation. But Canada said, after Jimmy Carter’s sweeping amnesty for draft dodgers, that US cowards couldn’t depend on Canada harboring them again.

    From Icono-Curmudgeon-Clast;

    Members of the Colorado Springs peace community filled up the courtroom on base with supporters, and will begin new counseling to war resisters.

    So here’s some counseling that you can get from me for free;

  • IVAW scrapes bottom of barrel

    As I’ve been writing the last few months, the Iraq Veterans Against the War have been trying to get the word out about the perceived atrocities they’ve witnessed in Iraq. The media has largely ignored them so they’ve been on the road this summer hoping someone will notice them. No one has noticed them thus far…until now.

    LT Nixon emails me this morning that they’ve caught the attention of that paragon of virtue and truth Hustler Magazine (beware of any links at El-Tee’s place – he doesn’t have a wife that bonks him on the head when nekkid women pop up on the screen).

    Slog‘s Bethany Jean Clement has the press release;

    HUSTLER Magazine November 2008

    The Winter Soldiers Speak Out

    In arguably the most shocking piece of the year, HUSTLER Magazine reports on the truth about what’s going on in Iraq. The “Winter Soldier” veterans, as they are called, speak out about the war and the thousands of innocent Iraqi civilian casualties. One of the brave soldiers brought back a video of his sergeant declaring, “The difference between an insurgent and an Iraqi civilian is whether they are dead or alive.” The soldier explains: “If you kill a civilian, he becomes an insurgent because you retroactively make him a threat.” Gruesome photos accompany the article.

    Yeah, see this goes to my post the other day. One “brave” soldier brings back a video of his SERGEANT declaring…. Did he bring back a video of his commander saying this? Or an even higher commander? Nope…IVAW is in the business of smearing the soldiers and Marines. And then they slap each other on the back and call themselves “brave”…and then wonder why they don’t get any respect from other veterans. “Gruesome photos accompany the article” just has too many possibilities coming from Hustler.

    I’ll let the commenters go into depth on this one.

    Ya know, I wonder if IVAW or Huster realize that no one who buys that particular magazine can read. Not that there’s anything wrong with that – Hustler’s first publication coincided with my first month in basic training, so we’ve grown old together. But, I think if I wanted to get an anti-war message out, Hustler would probably be the last place I’d go.

    LT Nixon, in his email to me, ruminated about a photo layout of nekkid, hairy-legged hippie chicks. I’m sure he gets to see enough of those in the Great Northwest, though.

  • Pretzel Logic

    f3h.jpg

    Impeachment seems to be slipping through their fingers, Nancy Pelosi has abandoned them on defunding the war in Iraq. Even their last hope, Barack Obama admits that maybe he won’t pull troops out of Iraq as soon as everyone hoped. So what’s the Left to do? Well, it seems they’re trying to rally State governments in order to stop augmenting our armed forces with National Guard troops. Several organizations link to a central page at Liberty Tree which touts itself as a “Foundation for the Democratic Revolution” and another named Peace Action. This whole movement seems to have started in the most logical of places – Vermont.
