  • ABC News hides Michelle’s ignorance “to save time”

    You probably heard that Michelle Obama told ABC News that teenager Hadiya Pendleton was gunned down in Chicago by an automatic weapon a few weeks ago. ABC News knew that was inaccurate and edited out the line to camouflage the First Lady’s blatant ignorance of gun functions – the Chicago police admit that the girl was probably shot with a semi-automatic handgun.

    Well, according to our buddy, Emily Miller at the Washington Times, ABC News is claiming that they edited the line out for brevity’s sake;

    A spokesman for ABC News, Heather Riley, emailed me that, “The full story was posted to our website in advance of the interview being broadcast. The edits made to Robin’s interview with the First Lady were made solely for time.”

    I read the missing words out loud, and it took me seven seconds.

    The Chicago police suspect that the shooter in the teen’s death was a gang member and it’s unlikely that a scum bag like that couldn’t afford the tens of thousands of dollars and layers of bureaucracy required to get an automatic weapon.

    But, that’s what the Obama Administration and ABC News gets for dragging someone into the “national discussion” on firearms control who has no business discussing a subject they don’t understand. Mrs. Obama should stick to talking about her bangs and her $9000 dress at the Oscars. Maybe get me a sandwich, too.

  • The difference a “don’t” makes

    Based on a rush transcript from Fox News, the Associated Press wrote an article that was posted to the wires which claimed that Rand Paul said that American voters want a policy that “round people up … and send them back to Mexico”. Even though AP has removed the story and corrected the quote to read “They don’t want somebody who wants to round people up, put them in camps and send them back to Mexico,” the story remains on a number of “news” websites;

    Rand Paul round em up

    San Antonio rand Paul round em up

    Yahoo Rand Paul quotes

    I’m no fan of Rand Paul (once a Kokesh hugger, always a Kokesh hugger), nonetheless, fair is fair, and this isn’t.

  • Too much satire out there?

    I know some of you have been suckered by satire. I was suckered by Duffel Blog once. But the Washington Post? It seems that one of their journalists just wanted to believe so badly that Sarah Palin was going work at Al Jazeera that she must have wet herself while she wrote this piece at the Post. (I’m sure it’s destined for the waste bin, so I had to screen capture this for posterity)

    Palin too much satire out there

    Of course, the line that announced her move to the radical jihadist daily has been removed from the article, and it instead becomes a discussion of the trouble Ms. Palin having trying to stay relevant. But, you know, when you want things to be true, you can’t let the facts stand in your way.

  • Bite Me depending on “legitimate media” for gun control

    The Washington Examiner reports that Vice President Joe Bite Me told the “legitimate media” that he’s depending on them to dissuade the American public from believing that this administration is going to take our guns from us;

    “To be very blunt with you, we’re counting on all of you, the legitimate news media to cover these discussions because the truth is that times have changed,” Biden added, warning that people would continue to “misrepresent” the White House’s plans for gun control.

    “The social media that exists out there, the tragedies that have occurred, the Supreme Court decision affirming that its an individual right to bear arms – all give a lie to the argument that what we’re trying to do is somehow unconstitutional, or somehow goes after the legitimate right to own and bear arms and to hunt and protect yourselves,” Biden added.

    Yeah, the same legitimate media who doesn’t know the difference between clips and magazines, the same media that warns us about grenade launching sling swivels. The same media that wrings their hands for days about the “rocket propelled grenade launchers” being bought by the LAPD in gun buy back programs. The same media that doesn’t know the difference between semi-automatic weapons and fully-automatic weapons. The same media that doesn’t report on the folks who save their families and homes from criminals with firearms nearly every day in America. The same media that calls Glocks a “plastic gun” and still thinks that it can pass through TSA’s magnetometers.

    If that’s the “legitimate media” I’ll stay out here in this empty field as a blogger, thank you.

    Thanks to UpNorth for the link.

  • Does “Global Warming” Influence Asteroids?

    No, of course not – they’re exoatmospheric.  But apparently at least one CNN anchor thinks it does.

    CNN’s Deborah Feyerick interviewed Bill “The Science Guy” Nye on air recently.  After discussing the recent New England blizzard with Nye and it’s possible connection to “global warming”, she asked him the following question:

    “Talk about something else that’s falling from the sky and that is an asteroid. What’s coming our way? Is this an effect of, perhaps, of global warming, or is this just some meteoric occasion?”

    Yes, teh stoopid appears strong in this one.  As does the agenda.

    Such biased and ignorant sources are the main source of most Americans’ “news”, such as it is.  And many Americans are so scientifically illiterate they don’t know they’re being had.

  • Esquire rolled?

    A couple of you have sent me the story from Esquire and Politico this morning that the SEAL who got bin Laden was destitute and forgotten by an ingrate nation. Here are some of the lines that jump out;

    “My health care for me and my family stopped at midnight Friday night,” he said in the days after he left the service. “I asked if there was some transition from my Tricare to Blue Cross Blue Shield. They said no. You’re out of the service, your coverage is over. Thanks for your sixteen years. Go f-ck yourself.”

    The man who killed Bin Laden does not receive pension, healthcare or family protection since he left the military, Bronstein writes.

    But the Shooter will discover soon enough that when he leaves after sixteen years in the Navy, his body filled with scar tissue, arthritis, tendonitis, eye damage, and blown disks, here is what he gets from his employer and a grateful nation:

    Nothing. No pension, no health care, and no protection for himself or his family.

    Yeah, well, I’ve been told that you folks getting out of the service have five years of Tricare, whatever is left of it after this administration gets done with it. And that doesn’t include the Veterans Affairs stuff. All of those things would get him a service-connected rating, treatment and help for his family. And as TSO said; “…and he can grab a 200k job in about 4 seconds with DynCorps”.

    So, I’m thinking that this Phil Bronstein, who happens to be the executive chairman of the Center for Investigative Reporting and wrote the article got rolled by someone, it looks like there were quite a few involved in the asshattery. If he wasn’t tricked by a phony, then the article he wrote sucked. Either way, I wouldn’t let him be the executive director of anything named for investigative journalism.

    We can’t get the guy’s FOIA, because there’s no mention of his name – we’re just supposed to take Ol’ Phil’s word for it, but given his level of investigation thus far, I wouldn’t. If I’m wrong and this guy is a real deal SEAL and needs help, I have banks of folks standing by to help him, in case he’s the only person on the planet who doesn’t know what’s available to him and his family, from Congressional aides to VSOs – but he kinda sounds like another Leo Webb.

    And, oh, his account of the shooting of bin Laden conflicts with Matt Bissonette’s account, too.

  • A Super Bowl Sunday Article to Make You Think

    Many of TAH’s readers follow sports somewhere between occasionally and religiously.  I’d put myself somewhere in that range.

    So I thought I’d post this in honor of the Super Bowl Sunday – though it’s more generic than footbal-specific.

    Since we follow sports, most of us also unfortunately have heard more about performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) than we probably wish we had.  And we’ve seen more than a few sports “heroes” turn out to have feet of clay, too.

    A fellow named Bill Simmons has written an interesting article on the issue.  It’s one of the single best and most thought-provoking articles I’ve read on the subject recently.  You may or may not agree with Simmons – but the article, though fairly long, is IMO worth a read.

    Simmons’ article can be found here.  I found it well worth the time.  YMMV.

  • LoHud removes map of gun owners

    Dominick and Hondo sent us links to the story that the Journal News of the Lower Hudson River region has removed their interactive map to the homes of legal gun owners in their region. They claim that it’s not because they were scared or anything, but because they’ve made their point and the map is beginning to become inaccurate;

    The newspaper wasn’t caving to public pressure, and the decision wasn’t an acknowledgment that it made a mistake, Hasson said. In fact, she said, many community members applauded publication of the permit data.

    “Our decision to do so is not a concession to critics that no value was served by the posting of the map in the first place,” Hasson said.

    “Nor is our decision made because we were intimidated by those who threatened the safety of our staffers. We know our business is a controversial one, and we do not cower,” Hasson said.

    “But the database has been public for 27 days and we believe those who wanted to view it have done so already. As well, with the passage of time, the data will become outdated and inaccurate,” she said.

    Yeah, false bravado. They had no real point to begin with. If they were really brave, they’d publish an interactive map to the homes of people with unregistered weapons. That would take take some real journalistic skills, though, and we won’t be seeing any of that coming out these folks whose only skill is filing a FOIA to get the names of people who have no intention of breaking any laws.
