  • Homeowner gets a two-fer

    Old Trooper sends us a link about a 68-year-old homeowner in nashville who conserved her ammo by shooting two home invaders of the three who entered her home with the same bullet;

    The men fled the scene in a waiting vehicle driven by Marlon Rameriz.

    The suspects arrived at Vanderbilt University Medical Center a short time later.

    Guzman was treated for his injuries and booked into the Metro jail on $80,000 bond.

    Camacho will be jailed upon his discharge from the hospital.

    Annie Oakley lives.

  • Feds mum on how 2 felons bought guns

    Fox News reports that court records they reviewed indicate that two of the indicted purchasers of guns in the “Fast and Furious” program were felons who should have been prevented from buying firearms when the dealer checked on their eligibility;

    Congressional and law-enforcement sources say the situation suggests the FBI, which operates the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, knowingly allowed the purchases to go forward after consulting with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which initiated Operation Fast and Furious.

    Jacob Wayne Chambers and Sean Christopher Stewart purchased more than 300 guns during the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives failed arms trafficking tracking program.

    When asked about the breakdown, Stephen Fischer, a spokesman for the [National Instant Criminal Background Check System, NICS], said the FBI had no comment. However, an ATF agent who worked on the Fast and Furious investigation, told Fox News that NICS officials called the ATF in Phoenix whenever their suspects tried to buy a gun. That conversation typically led to a green light for the buyers, when it should have stopped them.

    I wouldn’t think that it’s legal to circumvent Federal law for intelligence purposes, no matter who you are.

  • Anders Behring Breivik

    So this weirdo, Anders Behring Breivik, has taken over the news cycle since yesterday and at last count cost 91 92 people their lives and several injured. That’s him in the picture above sent to me by Scott who says it a US Marine uniform and the picture was in his 1500 page word manifesto. I see a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, South West Asia Theater medal, a Valorous Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation and I think there’s a Vietnam Medal in there, too.

    At Weaselzippers, they say he considered himself a “Marxist hunter” This is supposedly the video he put on the internet along with the 1500 page word manifesto about how he didn’t like the way the world was changing around him.

    If that is his video, I think it’s a little strange how it’s all in English, as if he thought all of us Englich speakers would stand behind him or something.

    I guess he spent an hour and a half blasting people, and not the little brown people he claims his whole demonstration was all aboute. At Stars & Stripes they intimate that SWAT helped him in his endeavor to kill copious numbers of innocent people because they decided to drive to the scene instead of taking their helicopter. I guess he surrendered as soon as the police confronted him…too bad they couldn’t have done that sooner.

    As much as you believe Wikipedia, the gun laws in Norway are fairly restrictive. You have to have a reason like hunting or sporting to own a weapon. Self-defense isn’t an approved reason to on a weapon in Norway. And you have to have clean police record to get a permit and the police are allowed to search your house to insure you have your weapons stored properly – after they give you at least 48 hours notice that they’re on their way.

    The last line of the Wikipedia entry might change in the near future;

    There is no apparent public desire to introduce a concealed carry permit at this point in time, and there is no such license available to civilians.

    UK’s Daily Mail takes advantage of this opportunity to take pot shots at Norway’s gun laws;

    The fact that Breivik was able to perpetrate this monstrous deed is partly a reflection of the extremely liberal gun laws that operate in Scandinavia.

    We can probably expect the same blather to come from the US press.

  • Open carry in Oceanside, CA

    If you open carry where it’s legal, you can still expect to be confronted by the police, and not all of the officers are going to be this cool about it;

    The officer kept his conduct professional no matter how hard “Jeremy” tried to be a dick.

    Thanks to Zedechek for the link.

    ADDED: I tried to embed this link to Guns and Ammo TV with advice on how to handle yourself when stopped by the police with a CCW license and a concealed gun, but I guess I’m an idiot today, regardless you should watch the video.

  • Threat of gun, not laws saved man on Capitol Hill

    Jimmy LaSalvia of GOProud, the gay conservative organization, was riding his bicycle on Capitol Hill last week when he was confronted by a gang of youths. When LaSalvia reached in his backpack for his phone, that action made them think he was reaching for a gun and scared them off;

    The story rings true to me because I’ve been confronted by youth gangs in DC when I used to ride my bicycle to work daily through some pretty rough neighborhoods. My only option was to peddle faster when I saw the gangs get interested in my bicycle which worked for the most part. Of course, everyone is a target in DC since non-criminals aren’t carrying guns outside their homes.

    Thanks to Old Trooper for the link.

  • Stupid politician tricks

    Chris Rock was only joking when he proposed a bullet tax, but a politician in Baltimore isn’t. Mayoral candidate, Otis Rolley, is perfectly serious when he announced his proposed $1 per bullet tax as an answer to armed crime in Baltimore (WBALTV link);

    “This is not a revenue enhancement tool,” Rolley said of the tax idea. “It’s a ‘make it difficult for you to buy bullets in the city’ tool.”

    The bullet tax is part of Rolley’s public safety plan, which includes a change in how the city treats some drug use. He wants to make possession of small amounts of marijuana a summary offense. That would treat the offense more like public drunkenness than a drug crime, Miller reported.

    Yeah, that makes sense because everyone knows that bullet possession is a crime, while possession of controlled substances is not – so increase the penalties for owning bullets and reduce the penalties for drug possession…it makes perfect sense.

    I guess Rolley, the rocket scientist, doesn’t realize that people can just buy their bullets outside of Baltimore. The only people he’s punishing is the business owners who sell bullets in Baltimore. Or they can buy their bullets on the internet. I guess the next step would be a tax stamp on bullets and penalties for possessing bullets in Baltimore that weren’t purchased there. That wouldn’t be costly at all would it?

    And criminals always find a way to get what they need regardless of the price. I guess Rolley would tax reloading equipment, too. Would you have to file your bullet manufacturing tax quarterly for each bullet you made in your basement?

    The answer seems to always be more taxes.

    Thanks to ROS for the link.

  • Iraq vet foils burglar

    Old Trooper sends this video from Fox News about an Iraq veteran, Joseph Vallar, whose neighbor called him at work to report that it appeared as if a burglar was entering his house. Vallar returned home and used his training to clear his house, during which time he encountered a burglar. The burglar was found with some of Vallar’s medals.

    Vallar credits Indiana’s CCW laws with his actions backed by his legal gun ownership.

    I commend his bravery, but I disagree with Vallar and the actions he took in that he should have called 9-1-1 and let the police clear his house. He was lucky that the burglar wasn’t armed and desperate. I think gun ownership is for immediately protecting yourself when the police haven’t arrived, not to go looking for trouble. But that’s me.

  • Congressman saves family from home invasion with a gun

    Scott sends us an article from the DesMoine Register about Leonard Boswell, the representative from Iowa’s third district, who responded to his daughter’s screams and found a home invader. As the 77-year-old scuffled with the intruder, his grandson brandished a shotgun which scared the coward away.

    His spokesman Grant Woodard said the whole family is safe and unhurt, aside from some scrapes and bruises.

    The family is shaken up, but “they’re dealing with it pretty well,” Woodard said Sunday morning.

    What you won’t read in the Register or the Huffington Post, for that matter, is that, unlike most of his Democrat colleagues, Boswell has been endorsed by the National Rifle Association for his sterling record on the Second Amendment.

    I hope you join This Ain’t Hell in wishing Congressman Boswell and his family our best and our thanks for supporting all Americans who have to defend their homes. I doubt we’ll hear as much about this incident as we will about Comgresswoman Gabrielle Gifford while the Obama Administration rolls out their plan for gun control legislation in the coming weeks…but at least you know…and you’re aware of an experienced ally among Democrats.
