  • So…don’t take your gun to NYC

    A Marine is learning that lesson the hard way, according to a Daily Caller link sent to us by Old Trooper;

    Ryan Jerome was enjoying his first trip to New York City on business when the former Marine Corps gunner walked up to a security officer at the Empire State Building and asked where he should check his gun.

    That was when Jerome’s nightmare began. The security officer called police and Jerome spent the next two days in jail.

    The 28-year-old with no criminal history now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of three and a half years in prison. If convicted, his sentence could be as high as fifteen years.

    Yeah, I go back to see my Mom in New York State and I can carry concealed across the state of Pennsylvania, the before I get to New York, I have to lock up the ammo and gun separately and out of my reach, and out of the reach of the passenger, because, apparently, the urge to be a criminal is stronger in New York than the other 33 states that do allow me to carry a weapon concealed.

    According to the Daily Caller article, Jerome found faulty information on the internet, which led him to believe that he was within the law…that never happens. And, apparently, he’s not the only one;

    In December, Tennessee nurse Meredith Graves noticed a “no guns” sign at the World Trade Center site and asked where she could leave her weapon, only to face similar charges.

    The “no guns” sign should have been posted around the whole State. Unfortunately, ignorance is no excuse, especially when it comes to guns and New York City. The Daily Caller goes on to say that Jerome faces a mandatory two years in prison, even if they give him the benefit of the doubt and credit for being straight-forward about the gun and trying to do what he thought was right.

  • End of year feel good story

    Amy J sends us a link to an article about a Houston home owner who heard someone stealing his truck, told his wife to call 911, armed himself and followed the auto thief. When the thief pulled out what the fed-up homeowner thought was a firearm, fired and killed the mutt, 19-year-old Damion Gibson.

    Investigators say the suspect may not have picked the best target.

    “Our homeowner, he is a Desert Storm veteran, he is ex-military, and from talking to the patrolmen up here, they have had a rash of auto thefts up here over the last couple of months and so the man was just protecting his property,” said Deputy Ben Bell.

    The case will now go to a Harris County Grand Jury to decide if charges will be filed.

    We don’t know the homeowner’s name, but he’ll probably need our well-wishes for him as he faces charges. Who knows how things will turn out in Houston.

  • Holiday miracles

    Two real life Christmas tales that will warm your hearts. First, from UpNorth the story of a store clerk who could;

    Before he could run off with any cash, the clerk at the We Buy Gold store in Hendersonville punched him in the nose on Friday. Sgt. Dale Patton with the Hendersonville Police Department tells the Times-News of Hendersonville that 25-year-old Mostafa Kamel Hendi dropped to the floor.

    See what I mean? It brings tears to your eyes, doesn’t it? Well, get the hankies, cuz this next one, from TSO who says it happened where he and his child-bride shop, will have you bawling with elation;

    “The suspect then forced the victim to the office area, where he encountered a second employee who fired a weapon at him, striking him in the face,” Indianapolis police Sgt. Linda Jackson said.

    Atkinson was taken to St. Vincent Hospital, where he later died.

    I know, take a few breaths to recover from the Christmas miracle joy. Oh, and the late Mr. Atkinson was a repeat offender;

    Atkinson was released from prison in October 2010 after an armed robbery conviction. He also had a prior conviction on a charge of possession of a handgun without a license.

    Some people just need to be shot in the face and luckily there was someone in Indianapolis willing to help Mr. Atkinson in that regard.

  • This is why we have safety briefs before ranges.

    From the people who first found this.

    (0:16) – Is it necessary to use a real gun to practice such a drill? It seems to be asking for an negligent discharge into the “aggressors” hand etc..
    (1:58) – Punching with your handgun and flashlight? “I’ve taken it from impact from shooting a projectile, to impact using the steel” – LOL ok buddy whatever you say…
    (2:45) – Where they start play fighting and trade taking shots from holds LOL priceless..
    (3:45) – Speed & Accuracy (trust your team members) – *epic facepalm* whyyyyy?
    (4:10) – Nice work on keeping the camera man in front of your muzzle, then dumping off a few shots… real classy and safe.
    (4:37) – Yet again the camera man is infront of the muzzle during live fire
    (4:42) – Why risk one life, when you can find 2 people stupid enough to stand next to your target? Like I always say 2 is 1 and 1 is none.

  • Mexican AG: Obama more inolved in F&F than he admits

    The Washington Examiner reports that Mexico’s Attorney General is accusing the Obama Administration of being more involved in the failed Fast and Furious operation than they are admitting.

    In a statement released by Mexican Attorney General Marisela Morales, she called Operation Fast and Furious “an attack on Mexicans’ security.”

    Morales told Mexican reporters that she is demanding a full and honest explanation from the United States government especially since evidence is being gathered that reveals the Obama administration was more involved in Operation Fast and Furious than top officials admitted in their sworn statements.

    Yeah, she’s pretty pissed off that she found out about the operation in her own country from the State Department after it was in the US media. I can hardly blame her. And she must be telling the truth…look how cute she is.

    Hillary: I looked that good once, I think it was September 5, 1969.

  • AZ Sheriffs call for Holder’s resignation

    Here’a news report about 10 Arizona sheriffs who called for Attorney General Eric Holder to step down for allowing the “Fast and Furious” operation to spin out of control. Yeah, Clarence Dupnik wasn’t there, but then neither was Joe Arpaio.

    It’s shameless that Holder won’t allow an investigation of the incident and its also just as shameful that he won’t admit any culpability for it. Of course, none of that makes up for the fact that thousands of weapons, bought with US taxpayer dollars, are in the hands of criminals and by Holder’s own admission will be used by those criminals for decades to come.

    Their own incompetence has already led to one regulation foisted on gun dealers in border towns and that’s probably only the beginning.

  • VT officer was a veteran

    I mentioned briefly yesterday the shooting at Virginia Tech in which an officer was killed during a routine traffic stop. Apparently the shooter wasn’t involved in the traffic stop but, rather ambushed 39-year-old Deriek W. Crouse of Christiansburg. From Fox News;

    Crouse was an Army veteran and married father of five children and stepchildren who joined the campus police force about six months after the 2007 massacre. He previously worked at a jail and for the Montgomery County sheriff’s department.

    Of course, VT officials are not blaming the shooter, but rather, the gun;

    “In light of the turmoil and trauma and the tragedy suffered by this campus by guns, I can only say words don’t describe our feelings and they’re elusive at this point in time,” university president Charles Steger said. “Our hearts are broken again for the family of our police officer.”

    Like someone mentioned yesterday, thst this happened is inconceivable – it ocurred in a gun-free zone. Didn’t the gunman know that?

  • Unrepentant Holder

    Even though the top law enforcement officer in the country, Attorney General Holder admitted that under his leadership thousands of repeating, assault-style weapons were bought with tax payer dollars and transferred into the hands of the enemies of law-abiding Americans and that those weapons will “continue to show up at crime scenes in the U.S. and Mexico for years to come” – he still won’t admit that it was ultimately his responsibility. Fox News link;

    Holder, in testimony on Capitol Hill that comes as the congressional investigation into the program expands, decried the “gun-walking” tactic used in the operation as “inexcusable” and “wholly unacceptable.” But a day after an influential senator called for the resignation of one of Holder’s top deputies over the scandal, Holder denied department leaders played any role in the crafting of “Fast and Furious.”

    He continued to assert that top Justice officials were not told about the “inappropriate tactics” until they were made public.

    Thousands of thugs are running around with weapons purchased in the United States with our tax money and all he can muster is “inexcusable” and “wholly unacceptable”. Then they plotted to blame it on gun dealers and our gun laws to take away some of our rights.

    The anti=Bush crowd got bent out of shape when they found about the Bush Administration wiretapping terrorists calling the US, but they can’t get exercised about this plot to curtail American civil liberties?

    I expect Occupy DC will be marching on the DoJ any minute now to protest the crimes Holder and his crowd perpetrated on the American people.

    You can’t see it, but this is my bated-breath face,
