  • DC Police investigate Gregory

    DavidGregory

    According to a link sent us by Hondo, Snafu Dude and Preston, from Breitbart‘s Warner Todd Huston, the DC police are investigating whether David Gregory violated DC’s restrictive laws against large-capacity magazines.

    Breitbart contacted the office of the police chief and asked if there were any plans to look into this apparent violation of the District’s gun laws. In response, Chief Lanier replied, “Yes, we are investigating the incident to determine if the magazine was in fact real.”

    In my search for large capacity magazines over the last week, I’ve discovered that there are 10-round magazines out there made to look like 30-round magazines, so I’m pretty sure that’s the excuse that we’re going to hear as a way to help gregory escape the clutches of the DC police. Either that or some poor intern will take the fall for smuggling the illegal, harmless inanimate object into the District.

    Anyone who holds out hope that Pretty Boy Metrosexual Gregory will do a perp walk for us is deluding themselves. Some animals are more equal than others.

  • Webster, NY shooter used Bushmaster

    Fox News reports that William Spangler, who shot 4 firefighters, killing two, in a Webster, NY ambush yesterday used a “Bushmaster” semi-automatic rifle for his dastardly deed. According to New York State law the Bushmaster is banned;

    It shall be unlawful to possess any “assault weapon” or “large capacity ammunition feeding device.” So called assault weapons lawfully possessed prior to September 14, 1994 and large capacity ammunition feeding devices manufactured prior to such date can continue to be lawfully possessed..

    “Assault weapon” is defined as:

    A semiautomatic rifle that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least two of the following characteristics:

    a folding or telescoping stock
    a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the actionof the weapon
    a bayonet mount
    a flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor
    a grenade launcher

    The Bushmaster Spangler used could have had up to four of those characteristics. And, oh, Spangler was forbidden to possess any firearm anyway;

    According to police officials, Spangler has a lengthy criminal record, including a manslaughter conviction for murdering his own grandmother, Rose Spangler, when he bludgeoned her to death with a hammer in 1980. Spangler Served 17 years in prison for the his crime.

    So, New York didn’t move to ban hammers after his first conviction?

    Despite the fact that scary-looking weapons were banned in New York, one apparently made it’s way through the stringent barriers that the State erected to protect citizens from the things.

  • The media and guns

    I guess NBC’s David Gregory fancies himself in the vanguard of gun control in the media. He confronted Wayne LaPierre, from the NRA yesterday on Meet the Press with what looks like a 30-round AR15 magazine.

    DavidGregory

    The problem is that the NBC studio is in downtown DC a few blocks from the White House and large box magazines (more than 10 round capacity) are illegal in the District to even possess;

    D.C. Official Code § 7-2506.01
    “(b) No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. For the purposes of this subsection, the term “large capacity ammunition feeding device” means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

    I’m pretty sure that the law means “no person” when it says “no person” and that Gregory is indeed a person, regardless of his intent of bringing that magazine into the District.

    Besides breaking the law, Gregory wanted to put his hypocrisy on display by poking LaPierre about his idea for having armed personnel in schools to protect the children. The Weekly Standard had this to say about that;

    But when it comes to Gregory’s own kids, however, they are secured every school day by armed guards.

    The Gregory children go to school with the children of President Barack Obama, according to the Washington Post. That school is the co-ed Quaker school Sidwell Friends.

    According to a scan of the school’s online faculty-staff directory, Sidwell has a security department made up of at least 11 people. Many of those are police officers, who are presumably armed.

    Moreover, with the Obama kids in attendance, there is a secret service presence at the institution, as well.

    It’s safe to say the school where Gregory sends his kids is a high-security school. It’s just odd he’d want it for his kids, but wouldn’t be more open to it for others.

    But then who is surprised?

    Meanwhile, Derek sends us a link to the the Westchester and Rockland counties, New York newspaper, The Journal News which thought it was important to inform their readers where legal owners live by providing them an interactive map which gives the full name and street address of each legal gun owner for some stupid reason. If I were a non-gun owner, I’d be upset, because now the criminals know which houses not to rob and which are less risk. What does the Journal expect? That neighborhoods will run out of town the folks who follow the law and get permits for their guns?

    Somehow, I guess they think they’re providing a public service, but all they’re doing is showing how they’re creepy little busy-bodies who don’t understand the discussion at all and should have nothing to say, because everything they’re saying is misguided bullshit.

  • Firefighters ambushed in Webster, NY

    The Associated Press reports that 2 firefighters were killed in an ambush in my old stomping grounds east of Rochester, NY. Two others were injured;

    The gunman fired at the firefighters when they arrived shortly after 5:30 a.m. at the blaze near the Lake Ontario shore in the town of Webster, Police Chief Gerald Pickering said. The first police officer who arrived chased the suspect and exchanged gunfire with him, authorities said.

    “It does appear it was a trap” for the first responders to the fire, Pickering said at a news conference.

    Authorities didn’t say how the gunman died or whether anyone might have died in the fire itself.

    It’s doubtful that the weapon that shooter used was an assault type weapon, otherwise that fact probably would have been mentioned by the police and there is an assault weapon ban in New York which bans weapons with bayonet lugs, pistol grips and flash suppressors – you know those things that make those weapons so dangerous.

    Obviously, in the wake of these two tragic deaths of first responders, someone will call for a ban on all weapons, since they can’t blame it on assault weapons.

    In other gun news, a man was found dead from gun shot wounds in his car in Northeast DC where most guns are banned. Another man died from his wounds in an unrelated shooting where yet another was found dead Saturday, but not to worry, murders in DC are on the decline says the Post;

    The number of homicides in the District has been declining; based on available records, the shooting Saturday was the first attack in the city in months in which two people were killed.

    So, the odds are good for you if you travel DC with someone else, only half of you stand a chance of being killed.

    ADDED: While we’re at it, a 12-year-old girl, who was home alone had to protect herself with a gun in Oklahoma last week;

    During that time, the intruder made his way through the house. St. Clair’s daughter told deputies the man came into the room where she was hiding and began to open up the closet door. That was when the 12 year old had to make a life-saving decision.

    “And what we understand right now, he was turning the doorknob when she fired through the door,” said the Bryan County Undersheriff Ken Golden.

    The bullet hit the intruder, who deputies identified as 32-year-old Stacey Jones. He took off but did not get far before officers took him down.

    “He was sitting down, the policemen had him apprehended at the end of the block. All I saw was some blood coming down his back. I’m not exactly sure where his injury was, but I saw some blood there,” explained St. Clair.

    Sometimes only a good girl with a gun can stop a bad guy.

  • Armed man protects slumber party

    Yep, here’s one that won’t be widely covered by the media; a man in Sacramento, CA shot three home invaders who sought to injure or kill a houseful of children at a slumber party. One of those invaders was killed the other two sent to the hospital along with the shooter and none of the children were injured. One other man was arrested as an accessory after the fact.

    The incident happened at 3:30 a.m. in the Pocket neighborhood.

    Investigators said during the course of the robbery, gunfire was exchanged and total of four people were shot.

    Police confirmed one man, who was an intruder, died at the scene; three others were transported to the hospital and are expected to be OK.

    At this time, Sacramento police will not release the identity of the shooter or victims.

    Several frantic parents showed up to the crime scene to find the street shut down for the investigation.

    One man who did not want to be identified said his 12-year-old had spent the night at the house and was there when the shooting took place.

    What was that I heard the other day? “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”

  • Committment, and the Blood of Innocents

    A bit over a week ago, a guy named Adam Lanza snapped.  He went full-blown batshit crazy, murdered his own mother, then stole her guns and used them to commit mass murder of innocents.  He then killed himself.

    Ever since, the “liberals” and “progressives” have been virtually falling over each other to be seen advocating more gun laws.  How dare Lanza’s mother have owned those “evil” guns!   Those guns were to blame for this tragedy!  And in true “never let a crisis go to waste” spirit, we’re already hearing rumblings about more Federal legislation to restrict exercise of rights guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment vice any actual discussion of what happened.

    Let me offer a theory to explain this.  They’re following the playbook.  In part, this is a deliberate attempt to change the subject and divert attention from the actual cause of the Sandy Hook massacre.

    In fact, the political left is directly responsible for the massacre at Sandy Hook – not law-abiding gun owners or morally-neutral things called guns.  I’ll explain why.

    By all accounts Adam Lanza was a profoundly mentally disturbed youngster.  While he allegedly had been determined to have Asperger’s syndrome, very obviously that wasn’t all that was wrong with Lanza.  His actions prove that quite clearly.

    Lanza’s mental health issues appear to have become more pronounced as he got older.  In fact, Lanza was so profoundly disturbed that his own mother – who’d consistently supported and protected her son, pulling  him out of school and home-schooling him when his issues started to become severe – was apparently at her wit’s end.  She was reportedly in the process of attempting to have her son institutionalized at the time her son murdered her.  Indeed, her attempt to have Adam Lanza committed is thought by some to have been the trigger for his rampage.

    Now, here’s something you won’t see much of in the media.  Under Connecticut law, Lanza’s mother had little to no chance of getting him involuntarily committed.  It seems Connecticut law in general only allows people to be involuntarily committed after they have harmed themselves or others.  Before they hurt someone?  In general, you can file that under “Not Gonna Happen”.

    That’s bad enough, but it gets even “better”.  It also seems that Connecticut considered a change to its laws earlier this year that would have allowed Lanza to have been involuntarily committed.  However, the proposed law did not pass the Connecticut legislature.  It was defeated.

    Connecticut is quite liberal.  It is today one of the bluest of the Blue states.  The Democratic Party rules there with an iron grip.  It currently has in excess of a 60% majority in each house of the Connecticut General Assembly:  22 of 36 seats in the Connecticut Senate, and 99 of 151 seats in the House.  The current Governor is also a Democrat.  Clearly, laws in Connecticut pass or fail as the Connecticut Democratic Party desires.

    I’m not a fan of making it easy to involuntarily commit a person to a mental institution.  That’s an extreme step; it should be rare, and should always be the option of last resort. So long as a person isn’t a danger to themselves or others, and is capable of caring for themselves, more power to them – whether we consider them crazy or not.

    But society does have the right to protect itself.  Some people are simply full-blown batshit crazy and are also dangers to themselves and others.  There should be a legal mechanism – one having  appropriate legal due process and other safeguards – to allow dangerous lunatics to be removed from society before they injure or kill themselves or others.

    One doesn’t need to wait for the car to roll over the cliff before hitting the brakes.  By then, it’s too to save the driver – or the folks at the bottom of the cliff who get hit.

    In practice, such a mechanism does not exist in Connecticut today.  The Democratically-controlled Connecticut legislature had the chance to institute such a measure earlier this year – and refused.

    Viewed in this context, it’s easy to see why the liberal side of the political spectrum is beating the gun control drum so hard.  IMO at least part of the reason is that they’re doing so to distract attention from the fact that the blood of innocents is on their hands.  They’re simply trying to shift that blame to someone else.

    They could have acted to take Adam Lanza off the street earlier this year. And they consciously decided to let that remain impossible, consequences be damned.

    So if you want to see who’s truly responsible for the murdered innocents at Sandy Hook, my liberal “brethren” – just look in a mirror.  You’re the ones who decided that letting lunatics live free among you – danger to others be damned – was more important than the lives of innocents.

  • Code Pink disrupts NRA statement

    We’ve been listening all week from the Left that the NRA is cowardly because they’ve been silent since the shootings last Friday. So the NRA makes a statement today. And a Code Pink loser disrupts the statement by holding up a sign in front of Wayne LaPierre which states that “NRA Kills”. here’s a screen shot of the little douche getting hauled off;

    Code Pink NRA

    Suppose the NRA disrupted Joe Bite-Me’s press conference yesterday while he was discussing the impending assault weapons ban with morons like former DC Police Chief Ramsey. What would be said today. While I’m writing this, there’s another disruption at the press conference by another Code Pink dingus. (Reports are that it was Susie Benjamin, but I missed it because I was writing this)

    The NRA has 8 million members who vote. It’s not just Wayne LaPierre – eight million of us. Wayne just happens to speak for us. Code Pink shoudl be outside my house protesting – I’ve been a member since 1977 before anyone tried to take my guns from me. Me and eight million other Americans are your real enemy, Code Pink.

    LaPierre’s money quote – “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”

    ADDED: I wonder if the Secret Service leave their guns in their office when they escort the President to a “gun free zone” school. They should if “gun free zones” are as safe as we’re told.

  • A Ready Reserve to Keep Our Kids Alive

    I get weekly emails from old Army buddies about jobs available to former military personnel, primarily in the Middle East, jobs offering excellent salaries. Most ads are seeking the crème de la crème, the special operators, or at least those with the advanced combat skills that would be in the resume of any former or retired Ranger or Airborne/Marine infantry NCO. Playing down the potential downsides of these contracts, such as living in Muslim countries under Sharia law, these ads tend to emphasize the outsized recompense rather than the discomforts.

    I look at those salaries and wonder why is it we have federal contractors who are willing to pay these lucrative compensation packages for former warriors to assume huge risk and minimal conditions of daily living while, simultaneously, we have school districts throughout this nation that could be employing them and their skills to even greater effect. These experienced tough guys, who devoted their younger lives to protecting this nation and its principles, could well apply all that training and experience protecting the nation’s most sacred resource, our children.

    May I be so radical as to suggest that school boards all across this country take a hard look at their administrative trees and lop off a few of those really questionable deputy superintendents for this, and assistant deputy superintendents for that? Just what contribution do all these highly paid, administrative dead branches make to the education of the children these boards are responsible for? Do a little math and you’ll see that some judicious trimming of these bloated school district administrations could free up some funds to hire teams of those veterans I described above, the millions of potential applicants out there who possess the requisite firearms and security skills to walk the halls of our educational institutions from kindergarten through college, armed and prepared to neutralize any threat to our children. Celebrities hire these people all the time. Are celebrities more essential to America than her children?

    A school district wouldn’t even need to have highly trained and lethal security teams in every school at all times. Multiple teams could be rotated through all the district schools on a totally irregular and unpredictable schedule. That very unpredictability would give pause to many of the deranged when considering mayhem on a helpless schoolroom. It might drive these crazies to the mall food courts or theaters, true, but I believe right now, in view of last week’s horror, that’s a better option than an elementary school or a kindergarten, because there is likely someone in those places who is armed. Think about it, mall killing events don’t produce the high numbers of victims that campus events do. There’s a clear and simple reason for that: the schools are stupidly but publicly announced gun-free zones and the killers, well aware of that, know where they can inflict the most horror before they are brought down.

    We are a nation with schools with construction budgets in the hundreds of millions of dollars, managed by administrations with similar budgets. With all this tax money being spent to provide our young ones with such excellent learning environments under such expensive tutelage, are there no funds to do this one essential thing: hire, tough, seasoned, knowledgeable professional warriors to keep our children alive? All you liberal parents out there so afraid of guns should weigh this: who is more essential, some totally helpless, multi-degreed, deputy assistant doofus for dietetic planning or some hard-nosed, bad-ass, old pistol-packin’ Ranger who, when it all hits the fan, will, by his training and his core beliefs, give his own life to keep your kid alive?
