Fox News reports that Shawn Schank, an Iraq veteran, stopped a gas station robbery with an evil scary black rifle and his foot in Shingleton, Michigan on Sunday;
State police said Shawn Schank was inside the gas station about 4:10 a.m. Sunday in Shingleton, an Upper Peninsula community in Alger County, when two people wearing ski masks forced their way into the building and approached the cash register.
Police say Schank kicked one of them, retrieved the AR-15 from his office and ordered the burglars to leave.
Police say one of the burglars took off his mask and pleaded with Schank not to shoot him before both suspects fled on foot.
I guess scary black rifles are scary to criminals as well as liberals, but I don’t see much daylight between the two anyway.
Chief Tango sends us a link to the story of a shop owner in Alabama who was forced to shoot a man who held a shot gun to the owner’s head while the thief attempted to rob him;
“He had a shot gun and held it to my head. I saw my life passing by and I thought I wasn’t going to see my kids anymore. That’s why I got really angry. That’s why I went after him,” he said.
But he didn’t just go after the suspected robber, the owner grabbed his own gun and fired a shot.
“He then followed the suspect out of the store and as that suspect got into a white charger he fired a couple more shots at the white charger,” said Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran.
“That’s the second time I’ve shot a gun ever in my life and I couldn’t believe that I hit him,” said the owner.
Several minutes later, the cops found 34-year-old Charles Steele with a center-mass bullet wound and hauled him off to the hospital to get him well enough to survive jail on a 1st degree robbery charge. Steele’s excuse was that he was laid off from work a few weeks before, so, I guess he felt he deserved that which someone else had earned.
The folks at the NRA send us a link to their video about their new series; NRA Women, sponsored by Smith & Wesson;
The National Rifle Association introduced its new NRA Women channel today, along with the vision to expose the public to the female face of the NRA – focusing on the “New Energy” of the women in the shooting sports who are making their voices known. NRA Women will share their stories to broaden our base but really show the greater public who we are and what were passionate about as gun owners.
Editor’s Note: Because you guys won’t stop sending me the link to this article from A YEAR AGO, I bumped up the post I wrote A YEAR AGO.
Salt Lake City’s ABC4 tells the story of gun carrying man who put a stop to a nut with a knife randomly stabbing people outside a store where he had purchased the knife;
Then, before the suspect could find another victim – a citizen with a gun stopped the madness. “A guy pulled gun on him and told him to drop his weapon or he would shoot him. So, he dropped his weapon and the people from Smith’s grabbed him.”
By the time officers arrived the suspect had been subdued by employees and shoppers. Police had high praise for gun carrying man who ended the hysteria. Lt. Brian Purvis said, “This was a volatile situation that could have gotten worse. We can only assume from what we saw it could have gotten worse. He was definitely in the right place at the right time.”
Dozens of other shoppers, who too could have become victims, are also thankful for the gun carrying man.
Isn’t it comforting to know that in a world gone mad, there are still sane people who see it as part of their civic duty to be armed.
A couple of you alerted me to the CNBC special last night entitled “America’s Gun: The Rise of the AR-15“, so I DVR’d it and watched it this morning. The trailer is at the link. Brian Sullivan spends an hour or so interviewing the various sides of the scary black gun debate. But, mostly he sticks with interviewing people that I would have trouble spending the day at the range with. For example, James Yeager who made this video in which he announced that he would “start killing people” if the government came for his guns (LANGUAGE WARNING);
The video has been edited to take that line out, because Mr. Yeager almost lost his gun permit because of the video, but CNBC has an original copy. Some of you sent me that video when it came out and while I agreed with the sentiment Yaeger expressed, I was a little uncomfortable about the way it was presented.
They also interview more grounded people like a dentist and a real estate agent in Florida who just enjoyed target shooting with their AR-style weapons. But CNBC spent more time with the “prepper” types, I guess because those are the people CNBC want to own ARs so they can justify disarmament.
CNBC also had a gun control fascist on the show who said that people like Mr. Yeager “chilled” the discussion. But there was no mention of the fact that gun grabbers don’t even know why they want to ban the rifles other than the fact they look scary. They did briefly mention that more people are killed with blunt instruments than with rifles of any type, but they followed that up with scary X-rays of the damage that an AR can do to it’s target.
CNBC touched on the development and original intent of ARs as military weapons in Vietnam, and they noted that the popularity of the weapon isn’t driven by any corporate ad campaign, but rather by customer demand.
If your a gun grabber, nothing in this presentation will convince you otherwise. If you’re an AR owner, it won’t make you want to sacrifice your gun in order to make the world safer. If they were looking for balance, I guess they achieved that. Of course, because it’s NBC, it leans heavily towards gun control, but I enjoyed watching happy people shooting their ARs.
Chief Tango sends us a link from Midland, Texas where the McDaniel and Pompa families were arguing about something and the cDaniels went in their house to avoid further confrontation. Mr. Pompa wasn’t able to let it go and broke into the McDaniel house wielding a baseball bat. 19-year-old Jonathan McDaniel then shot Mr. Pompa in the chest, ending the argument;
Police said they haven’t made any arrests because the person who pulled the trigger was trying to protect himself and others inside this home.
[…]
he shooting is being investigated as a homicide but no charges have been filed.
“It just means that somebody has caused the death of another person,” [Sgt. Greg McCright, with the Midland Police Dept.] said. “That doesn’t mean necessarily that there’s anything criminal with it, it doesn’t mean there’s not. It’s neutral on that.”
The lessons of the encounter are obvious and no one needs me to state the obvious.
Reuters, in a link sent to us by Old Trooper, breathlessly reports their discovery that the Boston bombing brothers didn’t have licenses to won the guns they used during their escape attempt last week;
In the confrontation with police on the streets of a Boston suburb, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were armed with handguns, at least one rifle and several explosive devices, authorities say.
But neither brother appears to have been legally entitled to own or carry firearms where they lived, a fact that may add to the national debate over current gun laws. Last week, the U.S. Senate rejected a bill to expand background checks on gun purchases, legislation that opponents argued would do nothing to stop criminals from buying guns illegally.
Oh, my goodness, you mean the gun-crazed people in the “national discussion” were right, even though they were called liars by the president, the vice president and anyone else quoted by the media? Next thing you know, they’ll be telling us that they weren’t licensed to own explosives either.
Houston in marginally safer today as reported by ABC30 in a link sent to us by UpNorth. It looks like a good friend provided overwatch while his friend was being robbed in his front yard;
As [the victim] got out of the vehicle, a gold Lexus SUV pulled into the driveway, blocking the victim’s vehicle.
Police say three armed male suspects got out of the back seat of the Lexus and confronted the resident. The suspects then demanded the resident’s car keys and personal items.
As the resident handed over those items, the suspects demanded to be led into the resident’s house. A friend of the resident, fearing for his friend’s safety, then fired shots at the suspect from inside the house. One of the suspects was struck and attempted to flee on foot before he collapsed and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other two thieves bailed in their gold Lexus SUV which should make them pretty easy to spot. I hope the Houston cops are able to finish the job an armed citizen started for them with his privately owned firearm.
