  • Gunman shoots four cops in their precinct

    Late yesterday afternoon a gunman walked into a Detroit precinct and shot four officers before they were able to kill the gunamn, according to the Detroit Free Press. He was using a scary-looking weapon;

    Then the gunman rushed the horseshoe-shaped front desk with his pistol grip shotgun.

    Emphasis mine. Soon the media will be telling us that pistol-grip shotguns were banned during the much vaunted assault weapon ban and this wouldn’t have happened if Congress had succeeded in renewing the ban. The AWB forbade;

    (D) a semiautomatic shotgun that has at least 2 of–

    `(i) a folding or telescoping stock;

    `(ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;

    `(iii) a fixed magazine capacity in excess of 5 rounds; and

    `(iv) an ability to accept a detachable magazine.’.

    All four police officers are expected to recover, by the way.

    The most curious part of the story is that officers at that the front desk were below the top of the desk and they couldn’t see if anyone entering the front door had something in their hands. The first officer shot was a woman officer at the front desk. Seems to me that a camera at the front door would be a welcomed addition. There was no bullet proof glass on the front doors either. In the 21st Century, every police station I’ve been in had a buzzer system for controlling entry and bullet proof glass.

    Well, it is Detroit and I’ve heard that gun crimes aren’t real common, well, except that they occur almost everyday.

  • DC residents subject to gravity

    Someone in DC died after falling or jumping from a ten-story building according to the Washington Post;

    A person was found dead Friday morning after apparently jumping or falling from a 10 story building in the 1200 block of M Street NW, a fire department spokesman said.

    Firefighters were called to the scene about 8 a.m. to find that the person had suffered traumatic injuries from a fall, said Pete Piringer, a D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Obviously this occurred because the buildings in Washington, DC are too tall. I suggest to the DC Council and the Washington Post that they advocate for shorter buildings. I mean, if shorter magazines are the answer to prevent shootings like in Tucson, then shorter buildings are the answer for this similar isolated incident.

    I think building regulations limit buildings to 12 stories in DC (everything has to be lower than the Capitol dome) but that doesn’t go far enough. Washingtonians will continue to succumb to gravity, so let’s make their falls less lethal.

  • Internet dating advice

    Bubblehead Ray sends us this link to an article about a woman who thought those Match.com commercials were real;

    The victim – a Hull woman – told deputies she and Vierra went out for dinner and returned to her home for consensual sex. Afterward, he became violent and she barred herself in a room, but he forced his way in. The woman held him at gunpoint and called 911.

    And then when the police arrived, Brian E. Vierra took an aggressive stance towards the police officer, of course Vierra was still naked from his consensual sex. But then the officer pulled out his Taser and the aggressive stance turned into “Don’t taze my wiener, bro”.

    So, ladies, make sure you take your CCW license and it’s attending accessories on those internet-arranged dates.

  • Ted Nugent on the 2d Amendment

    Old Trooper sends this to us as a counterpoint to the Michael Moore video below;

    And this dramatization;

  • Moore: you own guns because you’re racist

    Michael Moore and Rachel Maddow. You know some idiot bullshit is going to come from those two being in the same room. Moore first asks why people in Tucson would need to own guns since gun crimes and crime in general is so low there. Maybe a better question is “why would criminals want to live in Tucson when everyone has a gun?”

    Then he goes on to ask all of us what we think the criminal that we picture in our heads looks like. Of course, we’re all supposed to answer that it’s a huge black guy. So we’re racist for owning guns.

    Well, since we have only two black women in my town (and I’m friends with half of them) my imaginary criminal is one of the pony-tailed bald white guys who did some carpentry on the corporate retreat. One of the guys who tried to get me tell him about the secret alien technology I’m developing. Yeah, no shit, that’s the conversation I had recently with a local – and I immediately went out and bought another gun, just for that guy.

    Moore goes on to say that we own millions of guns but that there are only about 300 home invasions every year, so why so many guns? Now I hang with a different crowd than Moore, who probably has people who provide an armed response to his alarm system. And as far as I know, home invaders, even though there’s only a few hundred of them, don’t call ahead so I can get the publicly-provided armed response on sight in time, and I guess there’s no public schedule for home invasions, so we really don’t know where they’re going to strike next.

    And my alarm just announces which way the criminals are coming from in the house, and since I’m the only armed response in my house, my alarm becomes an audio aiming stake. And I’m determined not to be the first guy in my neighborhood to be kidnapped by a meth-head who thinks I know some alien technology recipe for moonshine.

    This is the man who the Left listens to for foreign and domestic policy. I’ve had more intellectual discussions with my three-year-old grandson who is quick to punctuate discussions with “I like Transformers”.

  • SUNY Cortland professor on guns

    So I went to the “Mayors Against Illegal Guns” website to see what kind of nimnil joins a club that cares so much about a subject they seemingly haven’t had a meeting since December 2008. Hmmm. What happened towards the end of 2008 that would make them think that they don’t need a meeting for more than two years?

    Anyway, they published an article from a State University of New York, Cortland, named Robert J. Spitzer, who has apparently written three books on gun control. What he had so much manufactured bullshit it would fit in just one? Anyway his article is entitled “SUNY Cortland professor advocates a sensible approach to guns, from New York to Arizona”. Yeah, sensible.

    But one factor both events share in common is the availability of handguns.

    Here’s the list of morons who are mayors and belong to this club. Apparently no mayor from West Virginia belongs, so I can’t help you.
    Guns matter. The old axiom that “guns don’t kill, people kill” is only half right. As policy expert Philip Cook has noted, “guns don’t kill, they just make it much easier.”

    So you see what sensible means, right?

    Admittedly, Syracuse teens who obtain handguns don’t get permits, but would anyone feel safer if legal handgun purchase in New York were as easy as it is in Arizona?

    Because, if you don’t have a permit for your handgun in New York, the gun can’t harm anyone, right? Yeah I feel safer knowing that New York has made it such an inconvenience to get a permit (it takes about 6 months) that the law abiding citizens don’t bother with the process and criminals are the only ones armed.

  • Does Michael Bloomberg have a brain?

    I never understand what that jackass mayor of New York is saying, especially when he thinks he’s saying something important. Like today in the Huffington Post when he thinks he has a point about gun control;

    …[A] new poll shows a remarkable consensus among Americans on gun issues. The poll, conducted jointly by a Democratic and Republican polling firm, was released today by the bi-partisan coalition of Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

    Among its key findings:

    * Americans overwhelmingly believe the Second Amendment protects the rights of law-abding individuals to buy guns: 79% of Americans believe that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to own guns and only 17% would support a proposal to ban all handgun sales.

    * Americans overwhelmingly believe that felons, drug abusers, and the mentally ill should not have access to guns and that more needs to be done to ensure that their records are in the federal background check system: 90% of Americans and 90% of gun owners support fixing gaps in government databases that are meant to prevent the mentally ill, drug abusers and others from buying guns. Likewise, 89% of Americans and 89% of gun owners support full funding of the law a unanimous Congress passed and President George W. Bush signed after the Virginia Tech massacre to put more records in the background check database.

    * Americans overwhelmingly believe that its time to close the loopholes that make it possible for people to buy guns without background checks: 86% of Americans and 81% of gun owners support requiring all gun buyers to pass a background check, no matter where they buy the gun and no matter who they buy it from.

    It turns out there is a broad consensus on guns in America. Just consider that in less than five years, Mayors Against Illegal Guns has grown to include more than 550 mayors from across the country. We have come together around a simple idea: it’s possible to respects the rights of responsible, law-abiding Americans and do more to keep guns from criminals, the mentally ill, and other dangerous people.

    They needed a new poll to tell us that? I don’t think anyone in this country wants to do away with guns completely as long as those guns are in the hands of responsible sane humans. So how does this change the climate in the country?

    In fact, if there was a “Bloggers Against Illegal Guns” Club, I’d probably join. But Bloomberg has proven that he’s not really for anything but the total control of everything that pinches, tickles, tastes good or leaves a mark. And that “other dangerous people” sounds a little ominous. That’s pretty subjective.

    I wouldn’t trust some numbnutted goober like Bloomberg define “dangerous people” – not the same guy who thinks that transfats are so dangerous that he regulates them away instead of giving people a choice. And how has he loosened gun laws in New York City since became mayor so that his city respects “the rights of responsible, law-abiding Americans”?

    In my opinion, he’s just writing to be writing something and keeping his rat-faced mug in the media so he can claim some expertise on the subject. He’s just another knee-jerk opportunist trying to get the subject of gun control back in the public forum. Good. Democrats can’t talk about gun control without screwing themselves to the wall.

  • ABC: Palin finds a way to be part of the story

    One of you sent me this link and I’ve been avoiding it all day – not because of any fear of ABC, but because it’s so easy;

    Sarah Palin, once again, has found a way to become part of the story. And she may well face further criticism for the timing and scope of her remarks. She is already taking heat for her use of the term “blood libel” (see today’s Tweets). In her video she notes, “President Obama and I may not agree on everything, but I know he would join me in affirming the health of our democratic process.” It remains to be seen exactly what Obama will say tonight, but White House aides say another goal of his address will be to lift the nation up in this moment, not sully it with politics.

    How hard was it to become part of the story when they were dragging Palin’s name around as soon as the shooting began. Yeah, she used gun sights on Gifford’s district and Gifford was shot. How many others did she use gunsights to mark their districts and they weren’t shot. Obviously, she was using the gun sight imagery because of the fact that the Left goes nuts over the fact that she’s a woman and she hunts.

    Over the past few days, a lot of undeserving people have been dragged into this. Take for example Uncle Jimbo at Blackfive who also has a blog titled “In the Crosshairs” who was taking some lightweight incoming fire.

    Dick Mac says: January 8, 2011 at 4:53 pm (Edit) Nice job supporting this campaign, Uncle J! It sure has been effective. You can’t use expressions like “lock and load” and imagery like “crosshairs” and pretend it is not a call for shootings. This was a call for shootings, and now they have begon.

    So I guess Jimbo found a way to make himself a part of the story, too, huh?

    But, Bernie Sanders didn’t find a way to make himself a part of the story, did he? What? You didn’t hear? Yesterday, before the victims of Saturday’s shooting had reached room temperature, Sanders sent this fund raising letter to prospective donors;

    Given the recent tragedy in Arizona, as well as the start of the new Congress, I wanted to take this opportunity to share a few words with political friends in Vermont and throughout the country. I also want to thank the very many supporters who have begun contributing online to my 2012 reelection campaign at www.berniesucksdicksatthePearlclub.org. There is no question but that the Republican Party, big money corporate interests and right-wing organizations will vigorously oppose me. Your financial support now and in the future is much appreciated.

    Did you know that Vermont’s gun laws are less restrictive than Arizona’s? Yet somehow Republicans are responsible for Arizona’s shootings.

    ABC went on;

    For Palin, the challenge is for her to decide who she wants to — or can — be. Does she want to be a uniter and a national leader instead of one of the country’s most polarizing figures?

    That’s hillarious. Before a word came out of her mouth when John McCain selected her to be his Vice Presidential candidate, the media and the Democrats (did I repeat myself there?) were using her to divide the country. Like they’d done to Hillary. Before the blood has congealed on the pavement in Tuscon, the Democrats and the media (there I go again) were already dragging her into the spotlight.

    This is how they recover from their defeat in the last election; trying to shame us into submission with their red hot vicious rhetoric and the imagery of a dead nine-year-old. Notice how quickly Joe dragged her limp corpse and her bereaved mother out in the comments on one post below.

    Is it possible for half of the country to jump the shark at the same time. To borrow from Jimbo; fucking pussies.
