  • Obama to spur gun sales

    Obama to spur gun sales

    According to Reuters, the President gave a radio address yesterday and his chosen subject was proposing more gun control;

    Obama, in his weekly recorded address, said on Friday he has received “too many letters from parents, and teachers, and kids, to sit around and do nothing.”

    […]

    Frustrated by Congress, Obama has vowed to use “whatever power this office holds” to put in place gun control measures.

    “We know that we can’t stop every act of violence,” Obama said. “But what if we tried to stop even one? What if Congress did something – anything – to protect our kids from gun violence?”

    Yep, “do something” – that’s reason enough to take rights away from Americans. Now, if you look back at the mass shootings that the media likes to point at as reasons to “do something” – the shooting of Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, the Aurora, Colorado theater shooting, the school shooting in Connecticut, the church shooting in South Carolina, the on-air murder of news people in Virginia, and most recently, the San Bernadino terrorist attack none of those people should have been able to buy guns. The things that they did to get guns was either illegal already, or a failure of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS. In other words, if the President wanted to do something meaningful in regards to the use of guns in crimes, he’d fix the NICS system, something that he can actually accomplish with just an Executive Order. Something that him and his predecessors should have already done.

    But, no, that wouldn’t make sense to the gun grabbers – it doesn’t take any rights from legitimate gun owners. If the President actually did do something that impacted gun violence, it wouldn’t get the gun grabbers any closer to their goal of taking all guns from all Americans. According to the Reuters article, the President had a meeting with gun grabbers to ask them how he could make them happy and it was their idea to close private sales, so the rumor is that the President wants to expand who will require a Federal Firearms License in order to transfer the ownership of firearms. To make more sales subjected to the NICS background checks – the NICS background checks which are designed, like TSA searches at the airport, to only make people *feel* safer – not actually make them any safer. if the intent of the NICS checks was to actually make us safer, the President would be focused on fixing the broken system instead of creating more work for the already broken system.

  • FBI murder statistics for 2014

    One of our friends sent us a link to the FBI’s murder statistics for 2014. So here we are with these figures on the cusp of some new gun control regulations in Congress designed to do away with Americans’ right to purchase scary black rifles and shotguns;

    FBI murder statistics

    Looking at these statistics, we see that rifles and shotguns were used to kill 510 times in 2014 while hands, fists and feet killed 658 people. Looking at that comparison, it would seem to me that people are the problem, not the rifles and shotguns. But, then, I’m not a politican who has to appear as if he is motivated to “do something”.

  • Virginia to rescind reciprocity agreements with most states

    Virginia to rescind reciprocity agreements with most states

    The Washington Post reports that Virginia’s Attorney General Mark R. Herring intends to announce later today that Virginia will rescind it’s reciprocity agreements with 25 states in regards to allowing those states’ concealed weapon permit holders to carry in Virginia. While most states are strengthening Second Amendment protections, the state now governed by a carpetbagger is weakening those protections;

    Herring said severing the out-of-state agreements can prevent people who may be dangerous or irresponsible from carrying a concealed weapon.

    “To me, this is a commonsense step that can help make Virginians and our law enforcement officers safer by ensuring that Virginia’s laws on who can and cannot carry a concealed handgun are applied evenly, consistently, and fairly,” he said in a statement provided to The Washington Post.

    “Our General Assembly has already identified who can and cannot conceal handguns in Virginia, and we cannot have that decision undermined by recognizing permits from other states with more permissive standards.”

    The states which are being dropped from the list are; Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming. West Virginia, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas and Utah remain on the list.

    In contrast, Ohio, earlier this year, allowed all permitted CCW holders to carry in the State, which is at it should be. But, you know, Virginia wanted a governor from Syracuse, so that’s what they got. Virginians can count on their ability to carry concealed in those states dissipating, too. That’s why they call it a reciprocity agreement.

  • New York Times’ latest warning; teens with .50 caliber rifles

    New York Times’ latest warning; teens with .50 caliber rifles

    Sniper rifles

    The New York Times‘ Editorial Board takes to their typewriters once again to warn the American public about gangs of teenagers who have “super destructive” .50 caliber rifles;

    Assault weapons were banned for 10 years until Congress, in bipartisan obeisance to the gun lobby, let the law lapse in 2004. As a result, gun manufacturers have been allowed to sell all manner of war weaponry to civilians, including the super destructive .50-caliber sniper rifle, which an 18-year-old can easily buy in many places even where he or she must be 21 to buy a simpler handgun. Why any civilian would need this weapon, designed to pierce concrete bunkers and armored personnel carriers, is a question that should be put to the gun makers who profit from them and the politicians who shamelessly do their bidding.

    First of all, most .50 caliber sniper rifles are not semi-automatic action rifles, hence they can’t be classified as “assault rifles” – that phrase which is right up there with “ghost guns” and other descriptors of scary black guns which panic the gun grabbers. Most .50 caliber sniper rifles are bolt action – which means that each round (bullet) must be chambered manually.

    Secondly, a .50 caliber sniper rifle goes for about 10 grand – the cost of a used car. I’m not aware of any teenagers who have a spare ten grand laying around to purchase a rifle. In addition, each round of ammunition for the rifle is 3-5 bucks a piece also outside the price range of most teens.

    Thirdly, the beasts are hardly concealable, and not easily transported to the prospective scene of a crime. For example, the Barrett M82 is 57 inches long and weighs more than 30 pounds.

    Congress has shamelessly become the last to admit what the public senses with each new shooting spree: The nation needs restoration of a federal assault weapons ban — this time minus the loopholes the gun industry exploited to boost sales.

    The gun grabbers have been biding their time waiting for a mass shooting involving scary black rifles which have features that don’t enhance the weapons’ efficiency. How many bayonetings have happened, but bayonet studs are one feature that makes a rifle an “assault rifle”, just like a flash suppressor or a barrel shroud. Or “the thing in the back that goes up” – whatever that is. All those things do is frighten anti-gun nuts.

    Last weekend, the media were exploiting the scary sounding “bullet button” which is actually a button that requires a tool to drop an empty magazine from a rifle before you can insert a fresh magazine. The use of the “bullet button” is designed to slow the process, but the media was using the term to scare people into thinking that by somehow pressing the “bullet button” increases the rate of fire. The two terrorists had actually disabled the “bullet buttons” on their guns so they could load faster – but not to hear the media tell it.

  • Obama to issue Executive Orders on gun control

    Obama to issue Executive Orders on gun control

    He’s been warning you for weeks that he’s going to “do something” in regards to gun control, so it looks like Obama is ready, according to “The Hill“;

    Obama has been holding meetings with gun control advocates to gauge their support and solicit ideas. He met last Friday with former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), who survived a gunshot to the head during a 2011 mass shooting in Tucson.

    A proposal Obama is reportedly considering would classify more sellers as high-volume dealers, which would close a legal loophole that allows many sales conducted online or at gun shows to skirt existing background check provisions.

    He just issued a battery of new regs last year, didn’t he? What could he have missed? Why didn’t he do this “high volume dealers” thing then? What he should do is exactly what he can do – make the FBI straighten out the NICS system. Ol’ what-his-name down in South Carolina got a gun because the FBI couldn’t make the time constraints on his background check. But you know, that would be within his purview, so he can’t admit that government isn’t functioning the way it was designed to function and actually preventing criminals from getting guns. That’s one mass shooting that falls on the FBI, that’s why someone had to make the Confederate flag the cause instead of gun laws for a change.

    I guess that’s why Obama didn’t call the NRA into the Oval Office for advice.

  • Guns; the new Confederate flag

    Distractions. This past summer, that youngster in South Carolina killed nine people during a church meeting. The Left, unable to exploit the shooting as a failure of tougher background checks (the fellow should not have been able to buy the gun, but the FBI didn’t flag the sale in time to prevent him from arming himself), so instead they targeted the confederate flag that he was seen holding in a photo taken before the shooting. They were largely successful in diverting attention from the failures of the background checks and the thing was blamed for the shooting instead of the shooter.

    Last weekend, after a shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic, another nut killed three more people – he had a history of sociopathic behavior, but again the NICS failed to flag his gun sales – so the Left blamed criticism of the discussion of PP being in the used baby parts business. Not the fact that they were selling baby parts for fun and profit – the discussion about their practice.

    This week, it’s Islamic terrorism. In a rational society, the discussion would be about how we can make ourselves safer from terrorists, but instead the social justice warriors want to make it about the inanimate objects instead of the people who commit these crimes. Take, for example, this tweet from that fellow who wants us to think that he’s Black and doesn’t mind questioning his mother’s virtue to further that perception;

    To me, and maybe it’s just me, but it seems that the problem here is an ideology, not the shape of a gun, at the heart of the problem. It also seems to me that adherents to that ideology would just love it if the actions of two people in California disarmed a large number of Americans and made us vulnerable to another such attack. And, isn’t that what terrorism is all about – to influence national policy in their favor by a series of violent attacks designed to terrorize innocent people?

    Yesterday, the New York Times called for gun owners to disarm themselves as a response to the terrorist attack in California. Presidential candidate Martin O’Malley blamed the National Rifle Association moments after the attack began. The man who replaced O’Malley as Governor of Maryland, Larry Hogan, says that gun control isn’t working.

    The president finally admitted this morning that events in California were the result of a terrorist attack, but he blames the attack on “easy access to weapons of war” instead of the dangerous ideology of the people who killed 14 Americans at a Christmas party. It seems to me that the Left is trying to talk us all into capitulating to the terrorists rather than advocating for us to defend ourselves. And they’re demonizing the inanimate object, the guns, like they did to the Confederate flag this last summer. That strategy worked for them, so why wouldn’t they try it once again?

    Local law enforcement officers are urging Americans to arm themselves because they admit that they can’t be everywhere at once – but the federal government is telling us to that we’re too well armed. It’s as if the Federal government is more worried about legal, law-abiding Americans who haven’t killed anyone with their legally obtained weapons than they are about the real threats to our security.

  • Gun control in the wake of San Bernadino

    Gun control in the wake of San Bernadino

    Ex-Ph2 sends us a link to Reuters which reports that Senate Democrats wasted no time trying to restrict law abiding Americans from purchasing firearms yesterday.

    One day after a mass shooting in California that killed 14 people and wounded 21, Republicans and Democrats in the U.S. Senate jousted on Thursday over gun control but again failed to advance legislation addressing the violence.

    Democrats tried to expand background checks to those purchasing weapons at gun shows and through intrastate Internet transactions. They also proposed closing a loophole allowing people on “terror watch lists” to buy guns and explosives.

    Both efforts failed in the face of heavy Republican opposition.

    That gun show loop hole really has a grasp on those gun grabbing folks. There is no gun show loop hole – it’s a private sales loophole. Americans can sell anything they own to anyone else. If the Democrats want to make it illegal to sell stuff to each other, they should just say that out loud. As I’ve said a hundred times here on this blog, I’ve bought guns at gun shows and I went through background checks every time. There is nothing that Democrats can write into the gun laws that will prevent criminals from transferring weapons between themselves that isn’t already in the law.

    Reuters took it upon themselves to revisit Brent Nicholson’s stockpile of thousands of guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition. Most of those guns had been stolen and Nicholson appears to have been dealing in distributuion of stolen firearms to criminals;

    “This has completely changed our definition of an ass-load of guns,” said Chesterfield County Sheriff Jay Brooks. Six weeks after the discovery, officers are still cataloging the weapons, many of which have proved stolen, and the final tally is expected to be close to 5,000. “I don’t know if there’s ever been (a seizure) this big anywhere before,” Brooks says.

    Criminals are going to break the law, no matter how many new laws you write. That’s why we call them criminals.

    Congress should also try writing laws against the possession of bombs – San Bernadino terrorist dude had more bombs than he had guns. But those are already illegal, too – a few more useless laws wouldn’t make any difference in that regard either, so it’s a situation that’s prime for a lawmaker, right?

  • Dear Leftists; stop being ghey for my guns

    Dear Leftists; stop being ghey for my guns

    It took moments yesterday for the Leftist gun grabbers to start politicizing the gun issue, you know, so they could get ahead of the revelations that the incident was actually Islamic extremist terrorism. Marty O’Malley beat everyone with his tweet blaming the National Rifle Association for the attack. I’d ask the presidential hopeful how many NRA members are convicted murderers.

    Many other Leftists mocked folks who called for prayers for the victims. Many peaceful people seek solace from the tragedies that happen here on Earth in their faith, but you know, the Left has problem with the concept of faith, because it requires a bit of self-examination, and many of them don’t measure up to being judged, so it’s the fault of faith, not the fault of their personal failures.

    The shooting happened in California – the haven for grabbers of guns. If the media reports are accurate of the types of guns that were gathered by the police in the aftermath of the tragedy, those weapons have been deemed illegal if they aren’t registered with the state since the California Supreme Court upheld the Roberti-Roos Assault Weapons Control Act of 1989 in August, 2000.

    One of my weapons that has the features that would make it illegal in California, I bought in 1984. It has never been pointed at another person. It has never caused an injury to me or another person. A couple of coyotes paid the ultimate sacrifice once when they started stalking my campsite one night, but other than that, only targets. By the way, that incident happened in New York State – that gun would be illegal there now, too.

    So, why would the President and some presidential hopefuls want to take my gun from me? Apparently, they’re ghey for my guns. Just knowing that the gun exists make them warm for my personal business. I’ve never been convicted of a crime nor do I have any intention to commit a crime – but I’m the kind of guy that the gun grabbers want to disarm. Their laundry lists of new laws will have no effect on criminals – like the pair yesterday who got around the laws to own their instruments of death and injury. Bombs are illegal, too, but they made several of those, didn’t they?

    So, look, if the gun grabbers think that I have sex-related issues which cause me to own large and powerful firearms, their fixation with disarming me must make them ghey for my guns – so just stop.
