  • And Then…

Many of our friends recently visited San Antonio for a MilBlog event.

There was a focus of no small note:

“May No Soldier Go Unloved,” encapsulates the motivation behind Soldiers’ Angels.   The volunteers of Soldiers’ Angels work tirelessly to demonstrate active care and concern for veterans, the wounded, deployed service members and their families.

But they also had some fun of sorts.  Soldiers Angels gets less play here than, perhaps, they should.

    But…

The band did packing for those deployed as well.

  • A Loud Voice.

Just had a casual Telco with Larry Bailey about this and that.

He has an insight you’d be foolish to ignore.

Briefly,  he believes that Ventura got what he deserved, and that The Book is wrong on many levels.

BUT, The SOS is working towards an event in DC mid October.

I’ve been asked to handle commo again. All of you GoE folks pay attention.

  • File Under Oops

Got this via FaceBook and John Gresham:
Setting aside Starship Trooper Can YOU pass the test?

I’m kinda simple minded (and old)  and yet I got an 89.

This exercise might be trivial, however, it can also be fun.

  • An Alternative?

Hondo did a remarkable write up about saying goodbye but this suits me at a visceral level.

    Kiwis in action.

Might as well note that Matt over at BLACKFIVE is reading my mind again.

  • Frocked!

Gary Sinise must have the constitution of a bull. He and his band stay on the road even when his TV show is active.

Can’t wait to hear how he enjoys his first visit to a “Goat Locker”

MCPON Names Gary Sinise Honorary Chief

Actor, humanitarian and musician, Gary Sinise, was named an honorary chief petty officer during a ceremony held at the United States Navy Memorial and Naval Heritage Center Aug. 24.

BTW, still having connectivity problems with TAH. I hope this post is coherent, but…

  • A Man Has Passed On

Neil Armstrong is with us no longer.

    Fair winds and following seas.

A quiet man who eschewed publicity, he was a hero of mine. Somewhere there is a place for those that have been there, done that. It doesn’t welcome many, but I’d sure like to hear those stories.

  • Tossed a Coin… Who Loses? Re: Kerry

Aside to all: Started this post and then got hit by some technical/weather related glitches. Satellite internet can be a curse at times. Sincerely thought it was saved in draft form rather than posted so I could finish it later.  It’d be funnier if it hadn’t already happened (sorta) once today on another post.

Even half finished it awakened Insipid so I’ll let it stand with just a little minor editing.

Let us begin with Jonn’s post.

I won’t riff on Kerry, you are allowed to have your opinion.  [shrug]

Those of us who helped kick Kerry aside are once again being demeaned it seems. Mentioned a book in a comment, it’s a book that explains how a process led to a truth.. A truth that most can acknowledge without difficulty.

Kicked the exchange over to one of the authors and he told me about a price change.

My debate was whether to promo that a new price for the eReader version on FB or here. You lose

Said Scott: “I just dropped the Kindle price of TSTRS to $0.99, so it should be within most budgets.”

  • Blame it on Jonn – A Sunday Silly

In an odd confluence of events Jonn recently told me not to be so paranoid (via email) AND then posted this?

This post is to amplify MY concerns.

Let us start with a definition:

    paranoid [pær-n-d]

    1. (Psychiatry) of, characterized by, or resembling paranoia
    2. (Psychiatry) Informal exhibiting undue suspicion, fear of persecution, etc.

This poor Marine got taken in because he espoused weird ideas. Weird as defined by most rational folks.

But, where do we draw the line? As Jonn noted this particular case demands a deeper look.

Us ‘Nam vets have had an undeserved stigma attached for decades, but I think you’ll find few intercessions like this one.

Here’s the silly bit: Even though Mr. Raub was singled out is it paranoid for us vets to look over our shoulders? That DHS warning is quite real. Toss in the SPLC report and…

The question really does interest me. BTW, Jonn seems more concerned about zombies than I am. I am concerned about a trend here.
