    According to Sheriff Louis Ackal, the homeowner, a 60-year-old black woman, was sleeping on her couch with her pistol next to her when the two suspects broke into the rear of her home.

    “The two males approached her and she shot the first guy three times,” Ackal said. “One suspect fired back but didn’t hit her. She again shot and hit both of the burglars, who escaped into the night.”

    When police arrived, one suspect was found lying on the ground nearby after being shot five times. IPSO K-9 officers are hoping to follow the blood trail of the second suspect, Ackal said.

    From Escambia County, Alabama;

    The homeowner told deputies with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) in Alabama the incident happened Monday around 2:30 p.m. at his home in the 3200 block of Foshee Road.

    The men were about to get away in a blue SUV when the homeowner got his single barrel shotgun and fired one shot in their direction.

    The driver was hit in the shoulder and along his cheek. He was later hospitalized.

    ECSO and the Brewton Police Department responded to the scene and later got in touch with the victim and the person at the hospital that was shot.

    As a result of the investigation, 24-year-old Atmore man, Mikeal Starks, is charged with first degree robbery and first degree burglary.

    From Indianapolis, Indiana;

    Police in Indiana say a mother has shot and killed an intruder who was trying to break into her home.

    Indianapolis police confirmed the fatal shooting occurred in the 2800 block of White Knight Boulevard. That’s near 30th Street and Mitthoeffer Road.

    The mother and her children are all fine, according to IMPD. All of the children are under the age of seven.

    Police said the mother shot the intruder, protecting her four children in the process. Police said the suspect was armed.

    From Alameda County, California;

    The bizarre incident was reported around 9:10 p.m. at the remote ranch in the 18000 block of Mines Road, in unincorporated Alameda County far outside Livermore city limits. [Sheriff’s Sgt. Ray ] Kelly said the rancher called 911 and said he had shot someone.

    Kelly said the rancher and [Scott] Hagan had recently met and authorities believe Hagan was possibly going to burglarize the property.

    He is accused of driving onto the property and using the truck to smash into a barn, the rancher’s home, a truck and the propane tank.

    The resident armed himself with a pistol and told Hagan to stop the truck and get out, Kelly said.

    Instead, Hagan began driving toward the rancher, who fired several shots at him.

    After being shot, Hagan was able to drive off the property. He was found in his truck stopped on the road. He was airlifted to a San Jose hospital, where he was being uncooperative with investigators, Kelly said.

    Police say around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, a couple got into their car and started searching for their stolen SUV. They drove around searching the streets of Everett, then spotted their stolen vehicle in front of the McDonald’s on Evergreen Way.

    “They kind of blocked it in. The male driver got out with a gun, ran up to the car, and demanded the occupants stay and wait until police arrived,” said Everett Police Department spokesman Aaron Snell.

    Police said the woman with the SUV owner called 911. The passengers stayed put, but the driver didn’t.

    The suspected car thief ran across the street to Cascade High School, where a softball game was under way and tried mingling with the crowd. But, officers still caught him.

    From Indianapolis, Indiana;

    “The homeowner, his wife and his 3-year-old child were asleep when this intruder came into the residence at which point our homeowner retrieved his firearm and fired multiple shots, striking the intruder,” said Major Richard Riddle with IMPD.

    According to Riddle, the homeowner reported hearing a crash as someone entered the home. He came out of his bedroom and saw [18-year-old Derrick Johnson Jr.] in the living room.

    “As far as I can tell [the intruder] did not have a weapon on him,” Riddle said. “But I want to make this very clear, the individual forced entry into this home and our homeowner confronted him with his own gun.”

    Riddle continued, “You have a right to protect yourself and your family inside of your home at all times as long as that force is reasonable and you are protecting your life, the life of a third party which in this sense is our homeowner’s family.”

    From Baltimore, Maryland;

    The owner, Mario Kazzalbach, told police that as he was closing for the night when a man entered the restaurant, displayed a handgun and demanded money. Police said two more men entered the store, one of whom displayed a handgun.

    “Each one has the gun, the masks, everything. They say, ‘No play, no play.’ Each one have a gun. Each one have a gun. Three people, I got three guns on my head,” Kazzalbach said.

    Kazzalbach told police that he complied with the robbers’ demands, giving them money, his necklace and a cellphone, and they fled.

    As the robbers fled, Kazzalbach said one turned and fired a shot at him. He was able to grab a shotgun he keeps for protection and fired a shot back.

    “Each one of them had big guns. I have to save my life,” Kazzalbach said.

    Police searched with K-9 units but were unable to find the three suspects.

    From Alabama Shores, Alabama;

    Colbert County Sheriff Frank Williamson said the man was shot by a homeowner who confronted the robber inside his residence around 3 a.m.

    The sheriff has not released the name of the homeowner nor the robbery suspect.

    “The homeowner was asleep, something woke him up, he saw the robber standing in the doorway between the bedroom and kitchen,” the sheriff said.

    Williamson said the homeowner confronted the robber, telling him “get out, I’ve got a gun.”

    “Apparently, the robber told the homeowner he had a gun also and they started exchanging gun fire.”

    Authorities said nearly a dozen shots were fired inside the residence.

    “How the homeowner didn’t get shot, I don’t know,” Williamson said.

    He said the suspected robber, after being shot, ran out of the house, and he and a girlfriend ran into a wooded area. The sheriff said the department’s canine located the suspect around daylight about 250 to 300 yards from the house.

    At another link, we’re told that the suspect is in critical condition.

    From Jacksonville, Florida;

    A police report says the pizza delivery driver was walking into a business on Lem Turner Road when a man with a gun demanded money.

    “I seen them give you the money but I am not gonna kill you ’cause you might have kids,” the robbery suspect, later identified as Priest Jordan, told the driver.

    The driver said he handed Jordan $91 in cash and his keys then backed away as Jordan got into his car.

    The driver said Jordan suddenly re-emerged, pointed the gun at him and fired shots.

    The driver said he pulled out his own gun and began to fire back at Jordan.

    The driver said Jordan fired multiple shots at him, but all of them missed.

    Jordan fled on foot and got into a white SUV, witnesses said.

    Mr Jordan is in custody and no one was injured in the gunfight.

    A father in Oklahoma is accused of trying to drown his infant twins in the bathtub before a neighbor stepped in and killed the man.

    Authorities say Leland Foster allegedly held the mother of his 3-month-old twins at knifepoint Friday as he attempted to drown the infants in the tub.

    A 12-year-old girl who was in the home ran next door to a neighbor’s house for help.

    The neighbor, Cash Freeman, ran to the house armed with a gun, officials say, and shot Foster twice in the back, killing him.

    The infants were rushed to an Oklahoma City hospital and survived.

    From Fayetteville, Georgia

    Upon their arrival, deputies spoke with the victim who said a white male had approached him in his carport and had requested the use of a telephone, Babb said. The victim refused and the man walked away, Babb added.

    The resident then entered the home and was confronted by a black male intruder, later identified as [Corey Jamiah] Simmons, armed with a handgun. Simmons demanded money from a female resident who had been thrown to the floor causing a contusion to her head, said Babb.

    Simmons then struck the male victim in the head while demanding money, Babb said.

    Babb noted that a third person in the home hid in a bedroom and was not harmed during the incident.

    “After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, (Simmons) took his attention away from the male victim, which allowed the victim to retrive his own firearm,” Babb said. “The victim confronted the intruder and both exchanged gunfire.”

    Babb said the intruder was struck by the gunfire and fled the property, running toward Chandler Way off Marion Boulevard near Ga. Highway 92 South.

    Simmons was arrested at the hospital where he was having his new orifices treated.

    From Detroit, Michigan;

    Detroit Police Chief James Craig said the victim had just made a purchase and was leaving the store. As he came out, he was approached by the armed suspect.

    “The suspect ran toward the [off-duty Detroit police] officer with his arm extended, holding a gun,” Craig said. “The officer, fearing for his life, fired shots and killed the suspect.”

    But the off-duty officer was shot in the exchange. He was hit twice, once in the mid-torso, once in the foot. In the hours after the shooting he was in emergency surgery.

    Down in Lumpkin, Georgia;

    An off-duty police officer in southwest Georgia shot a suspect at a local gas station on Monday.

    According to local NBC affiliate WLTZ, the incident involved a reported robbery attempt at the gas station, located at the intersection of Broad and Chestnut streets in the city of Lumpkin.

    The suspect, who was shot in the head, is reportedly in critical condition.

    Earlier reports stated that the officer was shot, which were incorrect.

    From Lancaster, Pennsylvania;

    The woman’s husband, who was upstairs sleeping, heard the commotion, got his handgun and and confronted [William Louis Stewart, 46,] who was advancing with a piece of wood, police said.

    The man then shot the intruder once in the chest after which the woman called 911.

    Stewart was taken to the hospital for treatment of what police described as non-life threatening injuries. Stewart is being charged with burglary, simple assault and criminal mischief and will be arraigned at a later time.

    From Gloucester Township, New Jersey;

    On May 21, [Dante] Robinson entered a home on Kay Lane with a gun and demanded money from the residents, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.

    He allegedly assaulted a victim, using his hands and also hitting them in the head and face with the gun, and pushed a 9-year-old to the ground, police said.

    Robinson was shot by the homeowner during the robbery and was arrested on May 22.

    Robinson survived the gun fight and he’s being charged with burglary, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful possession of a rifle or shotgun and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.

    HCSO said the deputy was working an extra job as a security guard for the complex when he noticed a man with drugs and a pistol sitting on top of an AC unit. They said he ordered the suspect to get on the ground, but instead he reached for the pistol.

    The deputy then fired several gunshots, striking the suspect in the leg. A window of a Metro PCS store was shattered by one of the bullets.

    The suspect was taken to the hospital, and is expected to survive. They said he faces charges of possession and trespassing.

    From Milwaukee, Wisconsin;

    A 26-year-old man was shot shortly after noon while trying to burglarize a home in the 6700 block of N. 58th St.

    The man was seriously wounded and the person who shot him remained on the scene and was cooperating with police.

    From Tifton, Georgia;

    The victim reported that she was carrying things from the house to her car, and that when she reentered her house someone grabbed her from behind and demanded money, the report states.

    According to the report, she fell and when the robber went down the hall she pulled out her gun, which caused the robber to run out of the house.

    The report stated the victim saw the person, who was dressed all in black with a black ski mask over their face, carrying something sharp in their hands as they ran out.

    In Port Richey, Florida;

    The investigation revealed two employees were going to work when the suspect entered the business and began battering one of the employees.

    The employee was yelling for the other to call police as the suspect continued to batter him. He tried to escape, but the suspect followed.

    The employee was fearful for his life and pulled a small caliber handgun from his pocket and shot the suspect.

    The suspect was identified as Vincent Angelety.

    The man was cooperative with the investigation and has a valid concealed carry permit.

    Vinny was arrested after he was treated for his new orifices.

    From Burlington, North Carolina;

    Around 3 a.m., the victim was washing his car at Lil Donnie’s Carwash on S. Mebane Street in Burlington when two men pulled into the wash a couple bays over. The men were in an older Oldsmobile or Buick car that was more than one color. The man grabbed his gun from his car when they pulled into the carwash.

    One of the men entered his bay and pulled a black semi-automatic gun on him, demanding money. The victim then fired his gun at the suspect, who ran away and left in the getaway car.

    Burlington police say the victim wasn’t injured and they’re not sure if the suspect was shot.

    From Frisco, Texas;

    According to Frisco police, a 911 call was placed just after midnight reporting a burglary in progress. When officers arrived they found a man, believed to be the burglary suspect, bleeding in the parking lot — he’d been shot. Police say the man was taken to a local hospital, but died later from his injuries.

    From Seattle, Washington;

    Witnesses said as one man came out of the business, another man tried to rob him. As the victim’s friends exited the lounge, the gunman shot the victim in the leg.

    The victim’s friends then jumped in and tried to help.

    As one of the victim’s friends wrestled the gun away from the suspect, the suspect fired the gun, nearly shooting the friend in the head.

    “The shooter started running so we ran after him. I’m the first one who grabbed him. We both went on the ground. He shot another bullet just right next to my head. Then the other guys came and we grabbed him and called the cops right away,” said Mamoon Alrawe, whose friend was shot.

    A group of the victim’s friends held the suspect on the ground until police arrived and took the suspect into custody.

    In New Orleans, Louisiana;

    The Kenner man told deputies he and Gillard were sitting in his car in the parking lot of Lapalco One Stop Shop, 6501 Lapalco Blvd., about 1:13 p.m. when Gillard pulled out a gun tried to rob him, said Col. John Fortunato, spokesman for the department.

    The man grabbed his own gun and shot Gillard, who got out of the vehicle and collapsed on the ground behind the vehicle, Fortunato said.

    Deputies recovered one gun inside the man’s car and another near Gillard’s body. The case is still under investigation.

    Chief Tango sends us link to a story in Selma, Alabama;

    A man and woman had just returned home and were getting out of their car when they were approached by a gunman. During the process of trying to rob the couple, officials say the male victim was shot.

    As the suspect went around the other side of the car and robbed the female victim of her purse, the wounded male victim got hold of his own weapon and fired at the suspect, fatally wounding him.

    “This is still under investigation, but it appeared to be an attempted robbery and the person that was being robbed had a gun on him and was able to fire back,” said Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson.

    The unidentified suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say he was in his late teens, early 20s.

    The male victim was treated and released from the hospital.

    From Lexington County, South Carolina;

    A Swansea man is recovering in jail after being shot during a burglary in Pelion Tuesday morning.

    According to deputies, 34-year-old Tommy Lee Hively was shot as he tried to break into a family members home on the 700 block of Fort Ridge Trail.

    After receiving treatment at a local hospital, he was arrested and transferred to the Lexington County Detention Center.

    In West Park, Florida;

    Broward sheriff’s deputies said one robber brandished a semi-automatic handgun and pointed it at the victims while his accomplice rushed toward the counter holding a bag.

    Deputies said an employee shot at the armed robbers, who returned fire.

    Surveillance video shows the customers running for cover as shots were fired.

    Deputies said the robbers struggled to open the front door to escape and slid through a small opening between the metal bars and the display counter, eventually fleeing out the back doors.

    Authorities said no one was injured.
