    Friday morning feel good stories

    This morning’s stories for your morning coffee begin as they so often do – in Texas;

    According to HPD, an employee was carrying a bag as he arrived to work. When he got to the door of the business, a robber put a gun to his back and demanded cash.

    The worker had a concealed handgun license and was hiding his own gun underneath the bag. When he turned to face the robber, he shot the robber two to three times in the chest.

    The robber was transported to the hospital in serious condition.

    The bag the employee was carrying was filled with toiletries, not cash, as the suspect may have believed.

    Toiletries aren’t worth a life, you thieves need to keep reminding yourselves of that little nugget.

    Our next stop is Florida;

    Police said the homeowner awoke around midnight to a noise at his door. He stepped outside to investigate when police said he came face-to-face with the intruder and shot him.

    The intruder has been identified as 43-year-old James Barber. He’s in the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

    The homeowner also went to the hospital for becoming ill during his interview with police.

    Our last stop today is Nevada;

    When deputies arrived, officials say they found two dead adult men outside a home on McLemore Court. A third person had been injured and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

    According to Sheriff’s Office Detectives, the preliminary investigation indicates the residents of the home at McLemore heard a disturbance outside their home shortly before 11:30 p.m.

    Residents of the home, including a male in his late fifties and his elderly father, went out to the front yard to check on the disturbance. The homeowners were confronted by two adult men, both unknown to them.

    The residents sustained injuries as the confrontation escalated. During this time, the son shot at the two subjects, resulting in their deaths.

    The Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office is currently in the process of conducting a formal identification and next of kin notification for the deceased. Cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office, as well.

    The father was transported to a local hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

    Thursday morning feel good stories

    The first story this morning comes from Tennessee, where James Melvin Vinson’s criminal record ended;

    [Knox County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Martha Dooley] said the resident woke to the sound of breaking glass, went from a bedroom into the living room and fired one gunshot that struck the intruder as he was climbing in the front window.

    The man fell onto the deck, where KCSO deputies found his body.

    Authorities said the resident called E-911 dispatchers immediately.

    Dooley said Vinson had an extensive criminal record and a “long history” of arrests.

    Next is Arkansas, where politicians fire warning shots at intruders, but their sons shoot center mass;

    The thought of a break-in would never have crossed [Cleburne County State Representative John Payton]’s mind.

    “It’s fear, concern and anger all at once,” says Payton.

    But they caught one in the act at his parents home last Tuesday. The suspects car was parked outside the home, still running with the headlights on. Payton found the back door open and it’s where he yelled for whoever was inside to come out.

    “The suspect barged out, kicked the door open, kicked the yard gate open,” he says. “Yes I did fire a warning shot.”

    However, the man didn’t stop. He hopped fences leaving damage behind. Eventually Payton says his son opened fire, hitting the burglar in the shoulder. That’s when they held him down and waited for police.

    “He was saying the holograms were trying to get him,” says Payton.

    The affidavit identified the suspect as 32-year-old Henry Scott Balderee, the Paytons neighbor.

    “I think he was having a psychotic episode.”

    Inside the home, Payton says Balderee ripped out the door to the gun cabinet. They found guns laying out, one of which he tried to load, but got jammed.

    Then out to Texas where the criminals aren’t real bright – this fellow broke into the house of an off duty cop, while the homeowner was installing a security system;

    According to Manvel police, the off-duty police officer was installing a video surveillance system at his home when he noticed a shadowy figure on one of his cameras.

    The homeowner grabbed his gun and went to check it out. That’s when he saw the suspect. Authorities say the suspect made a threatening move at the homeowner, who then fired 11 rounds at the suspect.

    Yep, 11 rounds fired at the sneaky guy and no blood trail, no body, police don’t think he was hit. My verdict; more range time. I wonder where those 11 rounds end up.

    Tuesday morning feel good story

    This morning’s first feel good story comes from Louisiana where neighbors look out for each other;

    The homeowner said he saw a male running from a neighbor’s backyard. When the male began running toward the homeowner, he fired a shot, hitting the suspect in the leg. He fled the scene before the police got there.

    While checking the area, officers found that the suspect had burglarized three separate homes and dropped the bag of stolen property. After being shot and running off, he hid in a vacant home on Yale Street and then walked to the area near California Street, where he was apprehended by police.

    Good shooting Mr. Homeowner, but you need to aim higher.

    Next stop is Utah where cops do show up in time;

    Police said the family’s dog alerted them to the break in and a neighbor called 911.

    Officers said the owner fired a warning shot after the suspects were in the house but no one was hit.

    Police arrested the suspects who were running out of the home when authorities arrived, 30-year-old Brian Olsen and 38-year-old Crystal Henard.

    According to the article the pair had a long criminal history.

  • Monday morning feel good story

    Monday morning feel good story

    This morning’s story is brief and it came from Tennessee;

    According to police, the sound of breaking glass woke up a man and woman at the Ridgeway Terrace Apartments in Hickory Hill.

    Believing someone had entered the house, the couple hid in a closet.

    The burglar, who police say is the woman’s ex-boyfriend, found the pair in the closet.

    The man then shot the suspect.

    Thanks to Chief Tango for the link.

    As always, it’s not the individual stories that are news, but we’ve been running these every morning for about 3 1/2 years and there’s been at least one story almost every day. The real news is that there are real people, honest people, defending themselves, their families and their property with guns and that’s the news that the media isn’t reporting.

  • Sunday morning feel good stories

    Sunday morning feel good stories

    This morning’s tales of gun-wielding good guys begin with this one from Ohio;

    Around 5:30 Friday night, the man walked into The Wireless store on West Galbraith Road and pointed a gun at the clerk. The clerk had a gun in the store. The video shows him grab it, he backs into a back room and fires toward the robber. He ran outside the glass in the front door shattered. Police are hoping the public will be able to help after seeing the video.

    The next story comes from Alabama;

    Police say the burglary happened in the 200 block of Cornell Road, which is located near Faulkner University between Atlanta Highway and Wares Ferry Road.

    Police say the owner of the home where the burglary was taking place, returned home and noticed that someone had forced their way into the residence. The homeowner entered the home and noticed two suspects inside the home who were attempting to leave. Police say the homeowner then fired a shot at the suspects.

    Police are still looking for the perps who police are unsure of their particular medical condition, and the homeowner is unharmed – the point of the whole thing.

    Those stories were from Chief Tango. ThommyMac sends this one from Pennsylvania about a shopper who saw an elderly man who was being confronted by a crowd of youths;

    When he had his gun drawn, the attackers turned their attention to him.

    “They kept yelling, ‘This isn’t your fight, you need to walk away and you need to put the gun down,’” he recalled.

    While all this was happening, other shoppers pulled out weapons of their own – cellphones – so they could record the incident and call police.

    By the time police arrived, the attackers and the victim had taken off.

    It turned out, they were all related. Police say the elderly man was an uncle being assaulted by his nephew.

    The courageous shopper said he’s been carrying legally for years and is glad he’s never had to draw his weapon before.

    He said his actions wouldn’t change if he was in the situation again.

    “If you see a crime happening and you see someone getting injured and you have the ability to stop it, you should,” he said.

  • Saturday morning feel good stories

    Saturday morning feel good stories

    Our first stop this morning is in Texas, as it is so often. I’m surprised there are any criminals left in Texas;

    Officers responded to a shooting call in the 900 block of Highcrest Drive about 4:15 p.m., where they said a homeowner confronted two people who had broken into his home.

    The alleged burglars forced their way into the back of the man’s home, according to police, and the homeowner heard a loud noise.

    “He confronted them and during the course of that confrontation he shot at them,” said Sgt. Paul Rodriguez, of the Arlington Police Department.

    The body of one of the two suspected intruders was found in the backyard of the house, Sgt. Rodriguez told NBC 5. Police later identified the body as 18-year-old Nathyn Tealer.

    The other man initially escaped the scene, but police were able to find him a short time later, police said. He was not injured in the shooting.

    Next stop is Michigan at a local jewelry store;

    Kent County sheriff’s Lt. Marc Burns said the men entered the store, 1100 East Paris Ave. SE, at 11:17 a.m. and approached a case.

    Soon after, the employee fired the shot.

    The three men did not fire back and fled the store.

    And then back to Texas;

    According to a report from the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office, a resident said he was awakened by loud sounds emanating from his neighbor’s property next door. The resident grabbed a handgun and flashlight before going outside to investigate the noises.

    “As the resident approached the garage, he observed a white male crawling out from under the garage door. The resident called for the male to stop; however, the male ignored the resident and the male lunged,” a statement from the sheriff’s office explained. “The resident called for the male to stop, however, the male ignored the resident and the male lunged. The resident fired one shot in the direction of the suspect, however, the resident lost sight of the suspect. The resident went to check the building and discovered the suspect had been shot and was down between the buildings. The resident went back to his home and called 911.”

    The criminal was pronounced DRT – Dead Right There. Those first three stories were sent to us by Chief Tango, the last one is a little different than the others – it comes from Tim and it happened in Arizona;

    54-year-old homeowner, Randy Adams, arrived at his residence, which is under renovation, near Thomas Road and 75th Street around 7 a.m. and found Samuel Facio Porras removing construction equipment. Porras was loading the victim’s property into a white pickup truck in the alley behind the house.

    Hoster said Porras, 53, attempted to flee in the vehicle and the homeowner gave chase then jumped into the back of the truck.

    Porras began driving recklessly in an attempt to throw the man from the truck. Hoster said Adams grabbed a shovel and smashed out the rear window then began hitting the suspect with the shovel.

    “I finally just took the shovel and broke the back window out and I raked all the glass out and then I just started beating him with the shovel,” said Adams.

    “All the glass went flying into this eyes and he couldn’t see anymore so he said, ‘I’ll stop. I’ll stop,’” he continued.

    The driver stopped the truck in the area of Miller Road and Palm Lane where the Adams continued to scuffle with Porras and ordered him to unload the stolen equipment. The suspect unloaded all of the stolen items onto the curb.

    Friday morning feel good stories

    Our first stop on our tour of American towns that are marginally safer this morning is Pennsylvania where criminals are having trouble picking out prospective victims;

    Police say after work, the officer was walking his dog when the suspect approached the officer from behind. The officer then drew his weapon when he saw the suspect was armed and both exchanged gunfire. The officer fired eight times.

    “It would appear the assailant took him for a victim,” says Philadelphia police captain Anthony Ginaldi. “He was pretty much surprised when he found out he was going to rob an off-duty police officer.”

    The suspect took cover behind a car during the exchange, then fled the scene, police say.

    The officer was not struck during the incident and it is unknown at this time if the suspect was struck.

    The next stop is Missouri, where it’s getting tougher to find good victims, even in convenience stores;

    Police say one of the two male suspects displayed a firearm and announced a robbery. The victim removed cash from the drawer and the suspects took the drawer and attempted to flee out of the store. As the two men were leaving, the victim retrieved a firearm and began shooting. The victim continued until outside the store, where he and the suspect exchanged fire. The man fled towards Park Lane and the other suspect went towards West Florissant until out of sight.

    Police found the suspect who had exchanged gunfire suffering from gunshot wounds to his abdomen and legs.

    Thursday morning feel good stories

    Our first story this morning comes from Texas and expounds on our lesson that you shouldn’t try to victimize the elderly, because we’re too old to fight, we’ll just shoot you. 74-year-old Jewell Turner was sitting in her van when a fellow tapped on her window. When she rolled it down, he pointed a knife at her and demanded the contents of her purse;

    “He said, ‘I don’t want to hurt you, but I want your money. And I will hurt you if I have to,’” Turner said.

    Turner said she told the man she only had some pocket change with her – $1.62 she counted after the ordeal – but he demanded what she had in her purse.

    It was in that moment, Turner said, that she remembered she came prepared for an encounter such as this.

    The widow first thought to pull out the pocket knife she always keeps with her for personal protection.

    “It’s an old knife, belonged to my husband,” Turner said.

    Instead, Turner remembered that earlier that very day she felt the need to bring her small pistol along with her.

    “I seen the gun laying there. And I figured that would work better than the knife,” Turner said. “I just reached down, got the gun and turned around and pointed it to his face. And I told him, I said, ‘You back off, or I’ll blow your head off.’ And his eyes got big and he just backed up and he took off walking down the street like nothing happened.”

    Our next story comes from Texas, too;

    The video appears to show [Corrie McKenzie, 29] enter the cashier’s box of the Fast Trac II convenience store. The cashier, another employee and someone Arolfo identifies as a good Samaritan try to thwart the robber.

    “It’s kind of nice actually, a good Samaritan comes in and helps out,” Arolfo, said.

    One employee, identified as the father of the cashier, used a shotgun to try to ward off the man. The shotgun did not go off.

    After almost one minute, of scuffling, the trio is successful and the robber escapes out the front door.

    The last stop today is Alabama where the criminals are especially shit bag – the thief used his own baby as a shield when confronted by the victims;

    A neighbor spotted two suspects at a house and called the homeowner.

    Police say when the homeowner arrived back home and when he fired shots to warn off the suspects, police said one of the suspects held up a baby as a human shield.

    […]

    Police said that the baby, who is believed to be 1-years-old, is in fact the suspect’s child. The mother and DHR have been contacted. It is believed the child is still with the suspect.

    A neighbor came out of her house to see what the commotion was about.

    “I heard this noise and when I looked up I saw a black male with a little baby holding it on his side and he ran past my mailbox off between my house and the next house,” Darlene Hunt said.

    Police say the suspects tried to flee in a vehicle but it got stuck so they fled on foot into the woods.

    One suspect was been taken into custody at some railroad tracks close to Poplar Lane.

    The suspect who held up the baby was seen coming out of the woods. Police believe he tracked back to Midway Road and may have gotten a ride there.

    Police are still searching for that suspect. He is described as a black male last seen wearing red shorts and a white t-shirt. He is described as armed and dangerous.
