  • Roof sentenced to death

    After three hours of deliberation, the jury in the Dylann Roof murder trial, sentenced him to death according to Fox5;

    At the beginning of the trial, he addressed jurors directly, insisting that he wasn’t mentally ill, but he never asked them for forgiveness or mercy, or explained the crime.

    He threw away one last chance to plead for his life on Tuesday, telling jurors: “I still feel like I had to do it.”

    Every juror looked directly at Roof as he spoke for about five minutes. A few nodded as he reminded them that they said during jury selection they could fairly weigh the factors of his case. Only one of them, he noted, had to disagree to spare his life.

    “I have the right to ask you to give me a life sentence, but I’m not sure what good it would do anyway,” he said.

    When the verdict was read, he stood stoic and showed no emotion. He will be formally sentenced Wednesday.

    I don’t like the death penalty, but, if anyone deserves it, I guess it’s Dylann Roof.

    The jury convicted him last month of all 33 federal charges he faced, including hate crimes.

    Roof did not explain his actions to jurors, saying only that “anyone who hates anything in their mind has a good reason for it.”

    He can explain that to his Maker, then.

  • Obama wanted to intervene in Davis execution

    According to the ReddingNewsReview, the Obama Administration tried to intervene in the Troy Davis execution;

    Obama’s White House spent “three days” looking at how it could legally get involved in the case on a federal level, one source said. The Obama administration even called the state of Georgia about getting involved and were told “No”. (Updated on Sept. 27 at 3 p.m. ET – The source said the president never called and was only concerned about an injustice, as he would do for any American).

    So, I’m thinking that no they didn’t, they’re only saying they did now to appeal to their base (ignorant hippies and their other useful idiots). The White House has no jurisdiction over state cases, they knew they couldn’t influence anything, but it makes them look good in the eyes of their constituency to say they did. And fuck the law and order voters.

  • Intellectually lazy

    Tom sent us this video from New York City the other day when the intellectually lazy protested the execution of Troy Davis – a few hours too late to do anything about the execution. It stars our own Colonel Ann Wright. I don’t know which organization she’s representing in the video since she switches from VFP to Code Pink as the need for her purse arises. But obviously she and the other other interviewees are only familiar with the vacuous talking points;

    One of the interviewees admitted that he wasn’t all that familiar with the case, but somehow he arrives at the conclusion that Davis was innocent.

    I’m not convinced that I like the idea of the government executing people, but the reason that I’m not adamant about it is because I don’t want to be associated with these morons.

    I didn’t see anyone chanting “I am Lawrence Russell Brewer”, because if they were truly opposed to the death penalty, they’d have been associating themselves with Brewer on the same level as they supported Davis. Otherwise, they’re supporting a cop killer who was positively ID’d by 37 witnesses who didn’t recant after he shot two people in broad daylight.
