    From the article:

The Air Force could have prevented a former airman from buying a weapon and committing a mass shooting last year had investigators followed proper protocol, according to a Pentagon investigation of the incident released this week.

The investigation casts doubt on the capabilities of Air Force Office of Special Investigations agents and the training of ordinary security forces airmen, according to the Defense Department Inspector General report, released Dec. 6.

The findings, and a follow-up review across the DoD, could have implications across all the armed forces investigative arms.

“We are currently conducting a follow-up review to assess the progress throughout the DoD in ensuring that all fingerprints required to be submitted to the FBI are in fact submitted,” DoD IG officials said. “This review will also assess whether DoD law enforcement agencies submit DNA to the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System, as well as criminal history data, mental health information, and sex offender information, as required.”

On Nov. 5, 2017, former airman Devin Kelley shot and killed 26 people and wounded 22 others at the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, Texas. After being shot by citizen responders, Kelley fled from the church in his vehicle and later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Kelley was able to purchase a firearm from a federally licensed dealer even though he had a disqualifying conviction. – Article.

The remainder of the story, which outlines the cascade of failures to follow up every time this investigation went further, is at the link.

  • Guns Can Fire By Themselves? Really?

Too early in the morning for my mind to take in this bout of fear and selfishness by other people, so I will leave the article and my summary for you.

    https://freebeacon.com/issues/landlord-tells-harvard-student-move-legally-owned-guns/

Her roommates went into her room in her absence, went through her things, saw her MAGA hat, found her guns, called the cops who verified that the guns were in compliance, and decided to vote her out of the house. Her landlord says she either moves or pays the $6000 rent for roommates because they’re threatening to move.

It’s unfortunate that the lack of understanding held by her roommates toward her concerns about running into her abuser is trampled on by their personal fears. One of them thinks the guns will jump up and start firing by themselves.

You can’t make this crap up. She’s at Harvard. She’s not stupid. Her roommates are, however, at the bottom of the barrel in brain wattage.

There’s a photo of the young lady. Look at that and think of your own children, in or nearing adulthood now, and ask what you would do.

Blast From the Past; David “Doc” Shrum, phony wounded veteran

Jonn posted about David “Doc” Shrum on August 25, 2015, read the original post and comments here: David “Doc” Shrum; phony wounded veteran. Military Phonies posted a Throwback Thursday on David “Doc” Shrum on January 12, 2017, here: David “Doc” Shrum; phony wounded veteran. The 42D Dental Laboratory Technician was selected for the Blast From the Past weekly post among a plethora of eligible poser candidates by the elite TAH selection team, well, just because.

As Jonn pointed out so eloquently, “The lesson here is; if you enlist to be a dental technician, be a dental technician”.

    Jonn’s work below.

    Doc Shrum

    Several months ago, the New Mexico department of the Military Order of the Purple Heart told us about this guy that they had booted by the name of David Shrum. Shrum had been the state commander in the early part of this century and folks started wondering about some of his claims. From the Daily Times;

Shrum claims on the DD 214, provided to The Daily Times by the military order, that he received the bronze star, a Distinguished Flying Cross and a Silver Star, prestigious medals given to soldiers for heroism or gallantry in military action.

However, according to Shrum’s military records, obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request sent to the federal National Archives and Records Administration, Shrum received no awards for heroism.

    Here’s that DD214;

    Doc Shrum DD214
    Notice the DD214 says that he joined the Army in 1964. Well, that’s easy to disprove;

    Doc Shrum HS diploma

Yep, he was still in High School when the DD214 says he was in the Army on active duty. And all of those medals “with clusters”. No one in the Army says “with clusters”. Except newbies.

[David’s brothers] Ken and Bill Shrum claimed in interviews that their brother has a long history as a con artist and has served time in federal prison for fraud.

    It looks like David did serve according to the Daily Times;

The records indicate that David Shrum graduated in November 1965 from basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri and then received training as a dental lab specialist in San Antonio, Texas.

    […]

David Shrum was stationed in Okinawa beginning in June 1966 and remained there until the completion of active duty, federal records state.

    […]

David Shrum finished active duty in September 1968 and reenlisted in February 1971, according to federal records.

David Shrum served in Vietnam with the 56th Dental Detachment from April 14, 1971, to Feb. 21, 1972, according to federal records.

He received additional dental training upon his return to the United States and was redeployed to Germany in December 1973.

    We submitted for a FOIA on Shrum back in September but for some reason they didn’t include his awards and the standard FOIA form that we normally get. All they sent was his assignments. Mary has resubmitted four more times. But here are his assignments;

    David Shrum Assignments 1
    David Shrum Assignments 2

You can see that he does have a tour of Vietnam as a dental technician from April 1971 – February 1972. Not usually a type of assignment that would earn him 17 Air Medals, 5 Bronze Star Medals, 3 Distinguished Flying Crosses, and 3 Silver Star Medals. Nor would it require the Basic Airborne Course, and the Jungle Operations Training Course.

After he was booted from the Army with a General Discharge after a drunk-driving accident on a US base in Germany, he spent two tours in prison for defrauding investors in a couple of schemes he tried to perpetrate on the public.

The upshot is that the MOPH has suspended the chapter in Farmington, NM and some of the members have reported Shrum’s lies to the VA and to the Feds.

Pete Comstock, another former commander of the order…said a federal investigator told him David Shrum is currently under investigation by the office for fraudulently claiming 100 percent disability.

“He claims 100 percent disability, because of (post-traumatic stress disorder), and it’s a lie,” Comstock said. “He has been receiving $3,000 a month for a long, long time and he shouldn’t have been.”

The federal investigator was reached by telephone but declined to comment on Shrum.

The lesson here is; if you enlist to be a dental technician, be a dental technician.

We’re still waiting for the rest of Shrum’s real records from the NPRC.

    And here it is on Oct. 27, 2015, finally;

    Shrum FOIA

  • Sunday Feel Good Stories

From the search and relay skills of AW1Ed, come these stories:

Springfield homeowner stabs man who forced his way into the house

    …then it got all stabby.

    https://www.wkbn.com/news/local-news/police-say-intruder-stabbed-by-homeowner-in-springfield/1568680364

SPRINGFIELD TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – Police say a homeowner in Springfield Township stabbed an intruder who forced his way inside.

It started as a call about a burglary at the house on Springfield Road around 1 a.m. Friday.

911 caller: “There’s somebody trying to break into my house and he actually slashed the tires on my car.”

The caller said he knows the intruder.

Investigators said a husband and wife from Columbiana were fighting and the wife left with two children to go to her friend’s house in Springfield.

The husband, Kyle Wilkinson, followed her there. He faces trial for domestic violence next month.

911 caller: “His wife and kids are hiding here because she has a protection order against him and he’s here, like, trying to get them.”

“He slashed a set of tires for a car in the driveway, pushed a window air conditioning unit into the house, attempted to kick in the front door and also threw a large rock through the rear sliding window,” Det. Gus Lolakis said.

As the caller waited for police to get to the house, screaming can be heard in the background of the 911 call. Then the woman took the phone.

Woman: “We need an ambulance now.”

    Dispatcher: “OK, what’s going on?”

    Woman: “I don’t know, I don’t know. There’s blood, there’s blood.”

Dispatcher: “Did he get into the house?”

Woman: “Yes, he came in the house and he freakin’ attacked him.”

When the shouting stopped, the homeowner got back on the phone.

911 caller: “As the wife and kids were behind me and I had a knife for self-defense, and ended up stabbing him.”

When authorities got to the house, they found Wilkinson bleeding from a stab wound but no one else had been hurt. Police said Wilkinson was armed as well.

    Again?

One stabbed, one arrested after altercation at Topeka apartment

    https://www.wibw.com/content/news/One-stabbed-one-arrested-after-group-of-five-confront-resident-499379251.html

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) One man is behind bars and another is recovering from a stabbing injury to the hand after five people confronted a resident at their apartment late Thursday.

TPD says the incident happened at an apartment in the 2300 block of SE Bellview just after 10 p.m. Thursday.

Five subjects went to the apartment to confront a resident about a past disturbance.

One of the five, Chance Johnson, 22, arrived at the apartment armed with a handgun.

The group entered the apartment and threatened the resident. From there, a physical altercation ensued.

The resident of the apartment cut one of the five subjects with a knife in what appeared to be an act of self-defense, according to Lt. John Trimble.

Johnson was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on aggravated assault and conspiracy.

Reports for aggravated assault and conspiracy were sent to the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges on the other four subjects – their names have not been released.

Finally a good old fashioned DGU.

  • Important Message From General Charles H. Jacoby!!

I received the following e-mail last night, and am puzzled as to how to properly respond to it. I’m torn between being flattered that someone wants to give me 30% of $38,000,000 Big Ones, and knowing that no matter how earnestly I respond, the Western Union office that used to be next door to the restaurant on the highway is – well, it’s gone, because nobody patronized it, and the cash to which General Jacoby is referring would have to be shipped to me by Fed Ex – and I’m not sure that they’d want that kind of responsibility, unless, perhaps, General Jacoby paid to insure delivery before he shipped the $38,000,000 Big Ones to me.

Of course, you do realize that I would expect to be rewarded for my endeavors by a considerably larger percentage than a mere 30%. If I’m to guard this cash hoard against all takers, I’d require personal weapons of my own, which requires qualifying for a CCW as well as acquiring an FOID, all of which takes time. There is no instant gratification in this kind of thing. I would also require reinforcement of the walls of my house, or else a new garden shed with a more secure door and lock on the front. Again, this takes time.

Unfortunately, I might have to be completely honest with him and tell him that my spendthrift gene would flash the “ON” button at the sight and smell of all that moola, and I’d be gone so fast, papers would fly up in my wake.

Any suggestions are, of course, welcome, and no doubt the good general expects to find his cash hoard intact.  So what say you all?  Tell the general ‘Yes, of course, I’ll take it to help you out”? Or should I be more forthright and tell him he has to ship his entire $38,000, 000 cash hoard to a small regional airport innocuously located at Minot, North Dakota? As I understand it, Fargo is not too far from there. And Minot still does 15 second MITO exercises, so my timing must be impeccable in this matter.

    Recipients

    Greetings,

My name is  General Charles H. Jacoby, I am an American soldier, presently in Afghanistan for the training, advising the Afghan forces and also helping in stabilizing the country against security challenges. With a very desperate need for assistance, I have decided to contact you for your kind assistance to move the sum of (US$38,000,000.00) Thirty eight Million United States Dollars to you if I can be assured that my share will be safe in your care until I complete my service.

Some money in various currencies was discovered in boxes at a farmhouse during a rescue operation we conducted in one of the attacks by the terrorists and it was agreed by my colleagues and I that some part of this money be shared among us. The above figure was given to me as my share, and to conceal this kind of money became a problem for me, so with the help of a British doctor working with Red Cross, I was able to get the package out to a safe location entirely out of trouble spot. he does not know the real content of the package, and believes that it belongs to a British /American medical doctor who died in a raid here in Afghanistan, and before giving up, trusted me to hand over the package to his Family.

I have now found a much secured way of getting the package out of Afghanistan to you for pick up and I will discuss this with you when I am sure that you are willing to assist me. I am ready to compensate you with 30% of the $38 million USD for your assistance.

I don’t know how long we will remain here, and I was shot. I lost my wife and my little girl in Afghanistan during the attack. wounded and survived two suicide bomb attacks by the special grace of God. This and other reasons I mentioned later prompted me to reach out for help. 70% of my will be used for my investment and start a new life and settle down when i am out of here.

Please contact me as soon as possible with the following details:

    Full Name:

    Full Address:

    Tel/cell numbers:

    Occupation:

God Bless you as I look forward to your positive response.

    Truly yours,

    General Charles H. Jacoby.

  • In Regard to That Trek Northward

    Migrant geese

A caravan of Central American migrants attempting to reach the U.S. border took a rest break on Sunday, stopping in Tapanatepec, Mexico.

    Tepanatepec, in Oxaca, is here:

    https://www.foxnews.com/world/migrant-caravan-stops-in-mexico-same-day-mattis-says-us-military-is-deploying-resources-to-border

The news came the same day that Defense Secretary Jim Mattis announced that the military has already begun delivering countermeasures to the southern border.

The caravan, which has included as many as 7,200 people and is currently approximately 1,000 miles from the closest border crossing with the U.S., has become a major issue with less than two weeks before the Nov. 6 midterm elections.

Note that number: up to 7,200 people, not the 17,000s that were indicated elsewhere. This need to exaggerate is one of the worst characteristics of the lefterd media’s bad reporting.

The trekkers are doing about 30 miles a day now, and Hurricane Willa was threatening to exploit their difficulties by making landfall, but dwindled to a moisture source for the next USA Nor’easter.

Check Accuweather or the National Weather Service for updates on Pacific storms off the southwestern shores.

Per the article: The Mexican government says more than 1,700 people in the caravan have applied for asylum and that other people have gone home, Reuters reported on Saturday. Honduras, according to the report, says that 4,500 Honduran citizens trying to leave have recently come back to the Central American country. In addition, Reuters reports that the government of Mexico has offered jobs to some of these people but that has been turned down. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-immigration-caravan/central-american-caravan-moves-on-in-spite-of-mexico-jobs-offer-idUSKCN1N10Q8

Well, so much for the “good neighbor” thing. They get offers of jobs and say ‘No’, or they give up and go home, and they will meet with barriers set up by the U.S. military when they get to the US/Mexico border.

To summarize it: the various reports of numbers, from 8,000 to 17,000, were incorrect from the get-go. It was about 4,000 at the start, then grew to 10,000 and then drew down to the current 7,200 count. Jobs were offered to them in Mexico and were refused. Some 4,500 Hondurans have given up and gone home to Honduras. And you’ll find in the article that when someone asked the marchers to wait their turn for the sandwiches and water being handed out, those ungrateful twerps chased him and beat him up.

Nice people. My neighbors don’t act like that. They are civilized.

  • Trouble in Toronto

It seems as though you can’t even go to a peaceful protest these days without some soyboy latte-slurping nitwit with delusions of self-importance showing up to make a nuisance of himself.

At a pro-life protest in Toronto (that’s in Canada), a peaceful protest was underway outside an abortion clinic. As far as I can tell, no one was being rowdy.  No one, that is, until this sunken-chested dweeb showed up to not just annoy and heckle the protesters, who were behaving themselves, but to also do them some harm.  He damaged their signs, wrote on their backs with marker, and then wound up and kicked the protest leader in the shoulder and broke her phone. The video is in the linked article.

    https://globalnews.ca/news/4513068/man-roundhouse-kicks-pro-life-advocate-anti-abortion-protest-toronto/

And the Toronto police asked the woman he kicked and injured what she wanted them to do about it. Well, duh!! How about arresting him for aggravated assault and battery?

Per the Newsweek article, he has a history of violent attacks that seem to be aimed at women protesters. No information is available about what he does outside of harassing and physically attacking women at protests. He did have a job at a hair salon.

    https://www.newsweek.com/man-who-roundhouse-kicked-pro-life-protester-arrested-and-it-not-first-time-1161888

As it happens, he was fired from his job at the salon when the salon owner ID’d him as Jordan Hunt, issued a statement saying “We do not condone this kind of thing”, and the Toronto police did finally arrest him when he turned himself in.  He now has charges against him of assault, several charges of “mischief”, and another charge of assault relating to a different protest mentioned in the Newsweek article.

Frankly, this creeps me out because a lot of salons are run by gay men. While I’ve never had any qualms about getting my hair cut at one of them, the more expensive places pander to the notion of luxury at a high cost. You can get the same service at a more modest price at places like Supercuts and Great Clips or Sportsclips.

But now, you do have to ask why this guy works at a salon, around women, and then goes out looking for a chance to kick or punch them?

And if he is so pro-abortion that he will resort to violence, someone should remind him that if his mother had had the sense to flush him down the toilet, he wouldn’t be here.

And now, he has been arrested by Toronto police (well, duh!!!) and charged with eight counts of assault, seven counts of “mischief” (writing on the backs of protesters) and another count of assault from a similar incident in August when he pushed a protester into a telephone pole.

  • Che Guevara – the only kind of good Commie

Che Guevara – the only kind of good Commie

From his first meeting with Fidel Castro in Mexico in 1955 to his death in the Bolivian Andes in 1967, Ché Guevara’s revolutionary career spanned little more than a decade. Yet the handsome young face, gaze set firmly on the future, has lived on through generations. In today’s imagination Ché remains a mythical, romantic hero — an uncompromising revolutionary, selfless, dedicated, incorruptible, ready to die for his beliefs.

    Anti-American, Pro-Communist
At age 26, Guevara arrived in Mexico. He had spent five weeks in Bolivia and nine months in Guatemala, where he witnessed the overthrow of reformist president Jacobo Arbenz by a CIA-backed military coup. The event forever fixed his hatred of the United States. By then he was a convinced Marxist, and ardent admirer of the Soviet Union. Married to a Guatemalan woman, Hilda Galea, he intended to name his first son Vladimir. He had decided to join the ranks of the Communist Party, “somewhere in the world.” But despite his lofty ideals, Ché was little more than a drifter, a wandering photographer, an underpaid medical researcher — a rebel in search of a cause.

    Death of a Revolutionary
The Bolivian Rangers captured Ché Guevara on October 8, 1967, at a ravine called El Yuro. The next day he was executed. His body was photographed on a stone slab in a small hut for the whole world to see. On October 12, an American State Department analysis of Ché’s death predicted, “Guevara will be eulogized as the model revolutionary who met a heroic death.”
