  • An Armed Forces Day message from the Left

    On this day, the day during which we set aside a moment or two to thank our Armed Forces for keeping us free and prosperous, at least one anti-war blogger published this message on his blog;

    Saying no to war is the most important way to bring it to a halt. If troops had the guts they think they have they would get up and walk away from the most blatant display of American arrogance in this Century.

    So I suppose that, since they can’t really blame Obama for the continuing wars without calling him a lying hypocrite, they can blame the troops instead. But that blogger isn’t the only one. On Alternet, some gumball named Jeremy Scahille starts another rumor about our troops in Guantanamo;

    …an ongoing Spanish investigation is adding harrowing details to the ever-emerging portrait of the torture inside and outside Guantánamo. Among them: “blows to [the] testicles;” “detention underground in total darkness for three weeks with deprivation of food and sleep;” being “inoculated … through injection with ‘a disease for dog cysts;’” the smearing of feces on prisoners; and waterboarding. The torture, according to the Spanish investigation, all occurred “under the authority of American military personnel” and was sometimes conducted in the presence of medical professionals.

    His source? Human rights lawyers and former prisoners. Lord knows they never lie. Like this hilarious story;

    In April, Mohammad al-Qurani, a 21-year-old Guantánamo prisoner from Chad managed to call Al-Jazeera and described a recent beating: “This treatment started about 20 days before Obama came into power, and since then I’ve been subjected to it almost every day,” he said. “Since Obama took charge, he has not shown us that anything will change.”

    Um, did anyone notice that the guy is supposed to be in the most secure prison in the world, isolated even from the people on the same island – yet he supposedly called Al Jazeera? If he was being treated that badly, how was he able to get a call out, for Pete’s sake?

    Regardless, do these nutballs realize that they’re talking about the same kids they went to school with? The same guys they grew up with in their neighborhoods? The same folks who were on their Little League teams and at their summer camps? Why are they so eager to believe this about the people with whom they have more in common than they are to disbelieve the folks who have a stake in lying about their behavior?

  • VoteVets is not a veterans’ organization

    Yeah, I’m pissed at VoteVets. Is it because I’m partisan? Nope it’s because I’m a veteran. I hate to see the troops and veterans get screwed by people who claim to want to help them. My feelings go back so far, that I remember running off Hari Krishnas in Atlanta airport in the 70s when they targeted GIs for “donations” to their cult.

    Today, the charlatans are veterans themselves. Veterans like those at VoteVets. Besides having a stupid name, they’re run by stupid people. They claim to protect veterans’ interests, but remember what happened when SGT David Aguina spoke up at the Yearly Kos two years back? Twink Jon Soltz charged him from the stage and got in the young sergeant’s face like so many other punk-ass LTs I’ve seen in my time. And what does VoteVets vice-chairman Brandon Friedman (also known previously as Angry Rakkasan) do? He writes a comment in the Daily Kos accusing SGT Aguina of being mentally ill;

  • Where does Vote Vets get these clowns?

    I chased a link from our stat counter today over to Vote Vets, you know those ass clowns who worship at the altar of Jon Soltz, the master truck dispatcher. It was a link from a Richard Smith (dicksmith?) article in which Mr. Smith quotes an obviously insane sports writer at CBS;

    CBS Sports golf analyst David Feherty has gone off the deep end, or at least he thinks American Soldiers have. Check out this quote from Feherty in the April issue of D Magazine:

    [I]f you gave any U.S. soldier a gun with two bullets in it, and he found himself in an elevator with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Osama bin Laden, there’s a good chance that Nancy Pelosi would get shot twice, and Harry Reid and bin Laden would be strangled to death.

    Somehow, the semi-literate Mr. Smith finds this an opportunity to call This Ain’t Hell “the right-wing attack machine” and wonders why we don’t get our dander up at Mr. Feherty. Well, here’s his explanation;

    Where were the Legion and the right-wing spin consortium on a prominent sportscaster slandering American Soldiers. The answer: AWOL. Why? Because the conservative smear establishment doesn’t actually care about Soldiers and Veterans. They use Veterans and Soldiers (including the Legion) as a prop, along side their lapel pins and car magnets, to protect their own desires, which is the destruction, by any means necessary, of those who have truly supported us in the past eight years. This is the modus operandi of the right-wing, radical, anti-troop, anti-veteran agenda.

    Here’s my explanation for the tone-deaf Mr. Smith; who the Hell cares what a golf analyst writes? Who the Hell reads D Magazine or Media Matters? Hell, I didn’t even know he wrote that article until you linked to our blog with your drivel (Dick didn’t have the guts to name the blog to which he was linking). I can’t even find the original article, so how do I know what the context was of Ferehty’s article?

    And last I checked, a CBS golf analyst doesn’t write policy which affects the troops and veterans – as opposed to a president and a DHS secretary. Numbnuts.

    If you had stopped for a moment before you hit “publish” and thought about it for a moment, you’d have noticed how ridiculous you sound. Smith drones on;

    Rumor has it, Feherty’s comments may make an appearance on tonight’s episode of Countdown with Keith Olbermann (MSNBC, 8PM EST).

    Rumor has it, my ass. Vote Vets have their collective head so far up Olbermann’s ass you probably know what’s scheduled for next year (since that’s where he pulls his programming from anyway).

    If Feherty still has a job by the time that show airs, after slandering the professionalism and mental capacity of American Soldiers and Veterans, he will have gone too long without being fired. Feherty needs to go. And every second he continues to be employed by CBS Sports is a second too long.

    It’d be nice if you got this upset about someone who is dealing dirt to the troops who isn’t a CBS golf editor – someone like John Murtha or Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid or Rahm Emanuel. Someone who matters.

    I’m waiting for one of your dorks over at the Jon Soltz Hate Machine Motor Pool to prove me wrong on anything that I’ve “attacked” the President on, by the way.

    Nice commie patrol cap, dick;

  • Concretebob needs help

    Y’all know concretebob. He’s been busting his tiny little hump getting the Declaration of Victory Rally going all by his lonesome and he’s reached an impasse. Go read his post at United Conservatives of Virginia and pry those steel-jawed wallets of yours open.

  • The Milblog post wherein I talk too much

    Man, it’s hard to even know where to begin. Sorry for the length of this one. I tend to be verbose, and had a lot to say. I’m really not overstating here how much I loved my weekend. (I will add pictures tonight, but the text should be good for now.)

    OK, the Milblog conferences are always my favorite things of the year (with the possible exception of the Lalla Open Golf Tourney I go to every August.) Partially because I get to see my little honey bunny with her Orange Fist of Purity and Justice, but more so because I get to be around a lot of people that I almost universally have respect for and actually enjoy being around. For those who don’t know me well, I am not by nature a very social guy, I like my quiet basement. But, I’m also very Alpha Male-ish, so when I do go out, I try to really go out. And the Milblog conference is the best of both worlds for me.

  • Milblog Conference 2009 links

    Many thanks to Skye of Midnight Blue, Claymore and Marooned in Marin, from Marooned in Marin, for standing in for us yesterday so we could enjoy the Milblog Conference worry-free.

    I found some links to photos and live blogs of the Milblog conference, and threw them up so you can see what a great weekend it was;

    Tankerbabe has some pictures of some of the folks on the first night. I’m sure there will be more – especially from last night at O’Sullivan’s.

    Ponsdorf took some pictures the first night.

    Fuzzybear Lioness at The Castle Argghhh! did a great job of live blogging the panels;

    Back to our roots (including TSO)
    Beyond MilBlogging
    Taking care of our veterans (including TSO)
    New Media

    I’ll add more links as I find them.

    Added: More from Tankerbabe on last night’s doin’s.

  • Serious funny

    Whenever I need a chuckle, I head over to Iowahawk and today is no different. Somehow he got a screencap of a discussion at the famous Journo-List. Here’s a sample of One Afternoon in a Secret Corner of the Internet;

    Iowahawk is a genius.

  • Coupla things

    I’m sorry I’ve been kind of hands-off the last few days, I’ve been pre-occupied a bit. But here’s some things some of our friends think you’d be interested in;

    No Sheeples Here writes that There Is A Deadly Cold Shiver Running Down America’s Spine.

    Global News sends that Vulnerable supply lines put US mission at risk.

    There’s a new blog on the block. Jonathan wrote me a nice email and tells me that he just moved here from that country that tries to speak English, Great Britain. But he’s started a new conservative blog named Track-a-‘Crat and he wants y’all to check it out

    Rurik sens us these photos of Spetsnaz training and some of their weapons. He also sent this article the other day about someone in St Petersburg blowing Lenin’s ass off.

    And our buddy Charles Ryder at Age of Hooper (The) explains why he’s no longer a hot Air affiliate.

    Ace of Spades writes about the stupidest jury to walk the earth giving fake-professor Ward Churchill another shot at getting his job back.

    Uncle Jimbo at Blackfive writes about our troops getting screwed in the special New York election last week. And then the Democrats complain that the troops don’t vote for their stupid asses. Our buddy, DanNY at GOE NY has more on the Tedesco/Murphy race.

    I’m working on some stuff that might go up this morning, but I’m feeling lethargic ahead of the weekend, so bear with me OK?
