    Lunar Eclipse 04-14-2014

    So, I’m out for the next couple of days taking my son to his grandmother’s house. So here’s a lunar eclipse weekend open thread, the picture sent to us by Ex-PH2. Knock yourselves out.

  • Matt Ott presents your money to veteran

    You folks made the news last night in York, Pennsylvania. For those of you who don’t know the story, 13-year-old Matthew Ott operated a lemonade stand every year to raise money for deserving veterans. Matt did that in memory of his mother who had passed away while he was still a baby. Matt has given ten thousand dollars or so over the years. This last veterans day, he gave $2000 to Nate Fornwalt, who told wild-ass stories and played the crazy vet role to the hilt. Don Shipley discovered the story and wrote us about it. Last month, some of you decided that we needed to reach out to Matt, and since Fornwalt wouldn’t return the money, we decided to replace that two grand.

    So TAH took up the money and we sent it to Matt last week. Here’s the news report;

    We can’t stop the phonies from doing what they do, but we can help some of the victims where we can. Good job, dickweeds.

    Oh, by the way, Matt is disabled by a rare medical condition.

  • Weekend Open Thread

    I’m going to be away from the computer for about 20 hours because I’m on the schedule tonight for the door knocking and ominous bush shaking on the other side of the country. By the way, the new schedule is posted at the “other” secret website where we talk about people and make threats. Don’t miss your shift.

    So here’s your weekend open thread to keep you occupied. Over.

  • Matthew Ott Fund Update

    pennies-peace-50

    I sent your $2000 of donations in a check this morning to Matt Ott and his dad, John. They tell me that your donations are going to the “Gold Star Healing and Peace Garden” in York, Pennsylvania. The Otts are going to present the check to them in the next few weeks. Thanks to everyone who contributed, there were so many that I didn’t have the time to thank each of you individually. I’ll keep you updated as this progresses.

  • Weekend Open Thread

    When Fox & Friends takes time out from making fun of Harry Reid to do a segment on cleaning your Leggos in the washing machine, you know it’s a slow news day, so here is your weekend open thread, even though no one asked for one yet. Drop off your links and tell us about your recipes.

    I’ve got to get the house cleaned up for a guest, MCPO NYC, who is dropping by the TAH corporate resort on Monday with cigars and rum.

  • Weekend Open Thread

    Ex-Ph2 asked for a weekend open thread pretending that it was Sparks who wanted it; so here it is.

  • Bug thread

    Someone wanted me to ask you guys to complain about the new format – the things you like and don’t like about it. The reason I went to a front page type of blog is so that I can tell what you’re reading and what you’re skipping over – it’s to make the blog more responsive to what interests you. It’s not some secret plan to get more clicks – how that would benefit me, I don’t know. All that matters in terms of traffic, is your first click that brings you here.

    That default picture, is me in Panama. Someone took it from the skid of a helicopter that was extracting us. I could lie and tell you that it was during some secret operation against Communists, but then you’d notice the blank adapter. That’s my buddy, Bob Nagy, flipping the bird, and my roomie Freddie Brooks behind him. You can always spot me in Panama, because I’m always drenched in sweat. I think we’d just got done hacking out an LZ when that picture was taken;

    There are things about the new blog that irritate me, too, and I’m not saying that I’m going to fix everything you don’t like, but I’ll change what I can so you feel at home again.

  • An early weekend open thread

    My wife is forcing me to go that portal to Hell, Metro DC, today, so I’m giving you your weekend open thread now. My code monkey hippie chick says that the new TAH will launch tonight while most of you are sleeping, so don’t freak out when you dial us up tomorrow. She assures me that there will be problems, so don’t be hesitant telling us about things you might encounter and we’ll get them fixed as fast as we can. You night owls might experience problems if you’re on when she’s loading the new format.

    Drop off links to your blog, news you’ve found that might be of interest to this crowd, or your favorite recipe in this thread of comments. Have at it.

    And welcome back, Sparks, you have a lot of catching up to do what with all of the news that broke here this week.
