  • Technical problems

    Apparently, my employer has blocked access to my blog – I’m typing this on my phone. I’ll have to post what I’ve writen when I get home tonight. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • OK, here he is (Updated twice and Bumped)

    Meet Velo;

    OK, Gramps is tired after 14 hours of labor. See ya’all in the morning.

    UPDATE: Here are his stats; His name is Velo Bartholome and he was 8 lbs. 7 oz and 22 inches long. His first jump was a little after 2100 hours (ZULU) last night (August 13th – five days before their third annivesary) after his mother had been going through pre-jump since about 0730. I tried to take him out to a strip club for a beer, but his parents wouldn’t sign the waiver.

    UPDATE II: Well, back three or four months ago, I met Robin from Chickenhawk Express (electronically) while we were both working on research for the same story.

    We discovered something in common aside from politics and the fact that her husband used to be a bouncer at my favorite bar on River Street in Savannah, GA. Our youngest daughters were both expecting baby boys this week. Her grandson, Boston James, arrived yesterday, so stop by and give the proud grandmother your best wishes.

  • Slackin’ off

    I may be a bit delinquent in my posting over the next few days – my grandson is scheduled to debut sometime today, so stand by for cute baby photos and doting grandfather posts.

    The last time we saw him, he looked like this;

  • Well, it works for Charles Johnson

    Traffic has been dreary since last week, so I took a page from Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs‘ book and decided to post pictures of my new bike;

    I have a new bike because someone decided that they needed my old Cannondale R400 more than I needed a bike (despite my swelling belly fat) and climbed up on my balcony and liberated it during the hours of darkness.

    So now I ride this sweet-ass Cannondale CAAD8 – bought from my son-in-law at his place of work at City Bikes in Chevy Chase. I took it for it’s maiden voyage this afternoon and I could actually hear the bike say “Hills? What hills?” Sweet.

    Please notice the “Handmade in USA” markings. No Eye-talian or Frog transportation for this red-blooded American.

    Now I can just sit back and watch the sitemeter peg. Maybe I should mention Ron Paul a few times, too, just for good measure.

    Edited to add: No kidding, I just got a hit from Technorati on a “Ron Paul” search.

  • My annual pilgrimage home

    Tomorrow, early in the morning, I begin my annual pilgrimage back home to Mom’s house to make up for a year of neglecting the poor soul. So that means I won’t be posting until Sunday – hopefully one of my guest bloggers will take up the mantle and bless us with their ruminances.

    In the meantime, I’ve lifted the restrictions on comments, so all comments will appear instantaneously even if its your first comment. If you want to cuss me out – here’s your opportunity to do so. Consider this an open thread for the weekend.

    Please wipe your feet, don’t fiddle with the liquor cabinent lock – and use a coaster! And visit Sergeant Grumpy, the newest addition to blogs linking here.

  • Help save the Right Wing Nuthouse

    Rick Moran at the Right Wing Nuthouse probably had more to do with me getting into blogging than anyone – besides my own ego, of course – when he first linked to my blog, I almost peed myself a little. He’s contemplating leaving the business. If you can throw a coupla bucks his way, please do so.

    See, this is why I’m not in sales.

    UPDATED: He called me “whimsically named This ain’t Hell” again. Martha! Get the Depends!

  • Welcome, GI Jane

    I want to welcome to the staff of writers (that’s a staff of two writers, now – me and one more) GI Jane whom I’ve known for three or four years. We’ve slammed back beers together a few times when she was stationed in DC (there’s a picture floating around the internet somewhere of us side-by-side, holding the bar up, beer mugs in hand) – but now the 28-year three-time combat veteran platoon sergeant has retired from the Army and moved to the frozen north country.

    She has her own blog at The Foxhole, and she’s graciously agreed to write with me when she has a chance.

    Her first contributions are on John Edwards and Jimmy Carter – two of my favorite subjects. I hope we see alot more from her – I’m sure you’ll enjoy her hard-assed NCO style as much as I enjoy it.

  • Overcome by events

    Sorry, folks, but I’ve been overcome by events both personal and otherwise. I’ll be back soon – I promise. So much to catch up on, I’ll try to be back Friday – early.

    Maybe some of you guys I’ve asked to guest blog should step up (hint, hint).
