    Good, I hope it’s painful….

[Ft. Hood] post spokesman Chris Haug said Hasan was admitted Saturday to Darnall Community Army Hospital at Ft. Hood. Neither the cause nor his condition was known.

Let’s hope he was “knicked” while getting shaved…dick…

The rest is at my SA (San Antonio)

  • John Villneff Funeral Fund

You may recall Jonn’s post about Marine and Viet Nam veteran John Villneff last week. John took a couple of bullets sheilding his grand daughter and died as a result. I checked back to see if they had posted any info on donations to his funeral fund and found that they had never updated the story to provide that information. I contacted the reporter, Amy Andrews and she provided me this link for anyone interested in donating to help defray the funeral costs. The donation site was put up by the funeral home but if you’d prefer to send a check the link above also gives the address of the funeral home. They will only be collecting donations through the provided link until Thursday. The funeral is today and as of this posting they have raised no money through the website…

BTW, the police caught one of the little turd burglers…

A statement from police said a “male suspect” was in custody following tips from the public.

    Update: Mailing address….
    Swanson Funeral Home
    806 E Grand Blvd
    Detroit, MI 48207

  • Down Time

So we have some posts recently regarding the normal media groupthink about military and extremists, ie. Jonn’s posts about the portrayal of the Sikh temple shooter and now the white supremicist asshat that said his chain of command was fine with his swastika flag (cough, cough, BULLSHIT)

In my spare time I’m a swim coach, as a kid my sport of choice was swimming.  So I hear about a video the US Swim team did lip syncing to Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call be Maybe” and I set out to find it to post on the team website….then I run across this….I’m now waiting to see if the Ranger Up crew has something in the offering a la Katy Perry!

WARNING: If you don’t have a sense of humor, leave now!

  • Father’s Day Surprise

From Yahoo Sports comes the story of a returning Marine being the “surprisee” instead of the “surpriser”

We’ve seen a lot of soldiers surprising their loved ones at ballparks the last few years. And whether it’s a girlfriend, a wife or a family being shocked, each one is special in its own way.  One of the features that unites them all, however, is that it has always been the returning veteran catching the other people off guard. That’s why what happened at Dodger Stadium on Sunday was particularly noteworthy. Instead of U.S. Marine Corporal Christopher Farias surprising his father Lawrence after a ceremonial first pitch, it was the other way around.

Farias was the Dodgers Veteran of the Day and was invited to throw out the first pitch….what he didn’t know was that the Dodgers had his father as the catcher on home plate.

According to Lawrence, it was the first time in eight years that Christopher’s military responsibilities didn’t get in the way of them being together on Father’s Day. That’s definitely way too long but a sunny afternoon at Chavez Ravine is a heck of a way to get back on track.

Check out the link for the video, my web-fu is not strong and I’m not going to try and embed the video lest I mess up Jonn’s blog and stir his wrath!

UPDATE:   As commentor Jeff put it “that’s one decorated Marine”  He was awarded the Navy Cross last month… Go check out the story!  I’m not sure how he got out of the dugout with the massive stones he has…

  • Desert Shield/Desert Storm Retrospective

This looks interesting President George H.W. Bush is hosting a retrospective on Desert Sheild/Storm at Texas A&M which includes a pretty good panel…

    Participants include
His Royal Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, The Amir of the State of Kuwait

His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salim Al-Sabah

The Honorable Richard B. Cheney, former Vice President of the United States

The Honorable J. Danforth Quayle, former Vice President of the United States

The Honorable James A. Baker, III, former Secretary of State of the United States

The Honorable Colin L. Powell, former Secretary of State of the United States

The Honorable Brent Scowcroft, National Security Advisor to Presidents Gerald Ford and George H.W. Bush

General (Ret.) Walter E. Boomer, United States Marine Corps

Anybody that’s going to be around College Station on Jan 20th can get registered for free here

I wish I’d have found out sooner, some buddies of mine from the 1st Cav are talking about getting together this year in Texas for the 20th anniversary, unfortunately not until February or March. Personally, I’d like to hear Dick Cheney speak. My mother, a lifelong Democrat, voted for George W. because she liked Dick Cheney so much. (go figure) She said every time he gave a press conference she felt like everything was going to be okay.

  • Bea Arthur was a Marine? Who knew?

Well, actually, no one. Apparently she denied she was ever a Marine but over at the Smoking Gun someone found her records.

military records show that the actress Bea Arthur spent 30 months in the Marine Corps, where she was one of the first members of the Women’s Reserve and spent time as a typist and a truck driver.

She apparently didn’t do to bad.

Arthur’s rank went from private to corporal to sergeant to staff sergeant, the title she held upon her honorable discharge in September 1945

Possibly she hid it because she was disciplined once for getting VD. There is a quote that would surprise no one that it was “Maude” During a personality appraisal the appraiser desribed her conversation as:

“Argumentative” and her attitude and manner as “Over aggressive.” In a handwritten note, the Marine interviewer remarked, “Officious–but probably a good worker–if she has her own way!”

You learn something new every day.

Thank you for your service Ma’am!

  • Lowest Military Payraise in 50 Years

Via Drudge a link to a piece by Jack Cafferty over at CNN

The Obama administration has proposed a 1.4 percent pay raise for the military in 2011 – the lowest since 1962, when they got no raise.

But this is CNN after all……who’s to blame for the meager raise?

As our government plans to extend tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans, they’re also proposing the lowest pay raise for the military in almost 50 years.

    That’s right, it’s the evil rich people…

It’s estimated that an increase from 1.4 to 1.9 percent would cost taxpayers $350 million next year – compare that to the tax break deal which some say will cost $900 billion.

There’s that much change in the ashtray of the stimulus bill if the President wanted to bump up the raise but hey, don’t let that change the narative…

  • Britain’s got tale….er, problems

The UK may have talent but they have bigger problems. Veterans Day(or still known as Armistice Day) in Britain gets some terrorist lovin’ from the religion of peace *cough*.

It starts off as you might imagine

Jonny Osborne, seven, symbolised the face of a new generation yesterday as he marched shoulder to shoulder with servicemen and women to honour those killed by war.

    Johnny Osbourne

Those are his Great Uncle’s medals he wears with pride.

His great-uncle, Sapper Lawrence Burton, was killed in fierce fighting on the beaches of Greece in 1941 while serving with the Royal Engineers….

Jonny wore three of his medals yesterday as a guest of the Association of Veterans of Foreign wars, of which his U.S.-resident grandfather Terry Burton is president.
His other great-uncle, Len Burton, was shot by a German sniper in Italy in 1945.
So yesterday the great-nephew they never met added a few medals of his own to his blazer, among them a Spitfire emblem alongside Union Flag and Stars and Stripes badges.

    But the relion of peace??

But three miles across London from the Armistice Day ceremony at the Cenotaph, another face of Britain was on display. It was contorted with hatred, poisoned by politics, and fuelled by flames from a giant, burning poppy.

    ROP

    Ya…..you stay classy guys…

Let me show you what honor and respect look like…

    Armistice day

    Poppy

    Poppy2

Now what did their service buy???? Oh ya, freedom of speech…and the freedom to be assmunching jackwagons…

    dickheads

That Bobby looks like he’d love to shove that bullhorn where he wipes…I can empathize…I hope Jonn doesn’t mind that I added a new tag, I just didn’t see one for shitbags…
