  • ?????? ??????? (Sorry it’s a Seekret Squirrel Code)

    Yeah, how you doin’?

Someone said he wonders how things will move along over the first six months of the Trump Administration.  I do know that, per this BBC News article, Pres. Trump (get used to that) and Vlad Putin had a phone conference during which they discussed several thing, including counterterrorism.

And in case anyone is worried about leaks between Pres. Trump and Mr. Putin, this video should help calm your fears. I cannot, of course, reveal my source, but there is a tree outside my window known to be a common gathering place of Secret Squirrels.  Pay no attention to the birds in the picture.  They’re all decoys.

  • Subs Ain’t Sandwiches

I went digging around for news from the real world, not the peculiar daydreams of the left side of the fence, and came across this from the BBC News.

This story is in regard to a declassed CIA memo about a Polaris class sub, SSBN James Madison colliding with a Soviet Victor class sub off the coast of Scotland near Holy Loch.  It indicates how closely the Soviets followed our subs and could have taken out our first line of defense in a heartbeat, according to the article.

    http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-38744322

I’m sure sub sailors will have a few things to say about it.

What is disturbing is that the news of the collision was not released until now, some 40 years later, because at the time, Kissinger  considered it to be “too embarrassing” to be released as news by the Ford administration.

Embarrassing?? Embarrassing is being caught with your pants down, isn’t it? Subs ain’t sandwiches built especially for you by some benighted soul behind the glass sneeze shields at a Subway shop on the highway.

You wanna talk about embarrassing??  How about the last eight years??

  • Yes, they really DO care… don’t they?

Of course they care. ‘They’ refers to the Democrats and how very much they care about the military.

This one comes from Poetrooper. I think it kind of speaks for itself.

    http://dailycaller.com/2017/01/25/poll-shows-how-little-democrats-actually-care-about-the-military/

It kind of belongs in the gigglesnort category, unless you get really ticked off by it.  I would simply throw up my hands.  That ‘can’t we all just get along?’ whine from some unemployed politician isn’t just a whine. It’s the ‘surrender everything’ attitude that annoys me.

  • Weekend Open Thread (Official)

    It’s finally here!

Okay, okay, I know: I’m late.

Isn’t that what your wife said before she told you the most important news?

Sorry I’m late with the WOT, but here you are. Have fun, play nice, and be home when the street lights go on, because you do NOT want me to come looking for you.

  • Army Guy for SecNav….

Pres. Trump (get used to that)  is giving the job of Secretary of the Navy to an Army vet.

Okay, I just want to know if this guy knows anything about boats and which end is which.  Otherwise, I’m good with it.

    http://www.military.com/daily-news/2017/01/25/trump-taps-army-officer-turned-businessman-navy-secretary.html

Maybe we should chip in and send him a copy of the Bluejackets Manual.  I don’t know what I did with mine.

Poetrooper gets credit for sending this one. Thanks, PT!

  • Decisions, decisions, decisions….

    Here’s something we seldom see.

A high school senior from Fairfax, VA has been appointed to all four military academies.

No, that is not a misprint.  The article says ‘all four main military academies’.  It includes the Coast Guard Academy. The Marines come out of Annapolis.

    http://www.fox5dc.com/news/local-news/231838829-story

He’s also following in the footsteps of other family members.

    I hope he chooses wisely.

My congratulations to him. That is a real accomplishment.

  • Don’t Weep For Poor Ol’ Venezuela

Per this article from Forbes Magazine, the economy of Venezuela has tanked so badly that implosion is an insufficient way to describe it.

It appears that Mr. Maduro, an incompetent ass if there ever was one, thinks that if he separates the bolivar from the USDollar, it will restore prosperity.   Lo siento, pendejo, but inflation is inflation and you devalued the bolivar because you’re an idiot.  It isn’t enough that the military is laundering money, is it? That’s being investigated by the US.

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/timworstall/2017/01/23/congratulations-to-venezuela-now-maybe-real-us-sanctions-not-the-claimed-fake-ones/#504fa05f31e4

And naturally, it’s all the fault of the US of A, not the Big Mahaffs of OPEC (Saudis) or the ‘lackluster’ oil market.  Maduro does not know about, nor does he understand, that the bubble in the price of oil a few years ago was just that: a bubble, and like all other bubbles, it burst like a bad tire and will not reinflate.

Last year, there was a news item about the Venezuelan army assisting cattle ranchers in stopping cattle rustling.  When you read that article, note that Maduro’s supporters are also going hungry now.   Gee whiz, guys, if people are starving to death, where’s the beef?

Until the Platoon Sergeant returns to full active duty, the Mess Tent will happily welcome recipes for field rations, hot dogs, brats, open pit barbecues, Grandma’s upside-down pineapple cake, or whatever is in your MRE pack.  I know there’s a way to make skillet cornbread.
