    Waves crash on a public beach in Sydney, Australia. The stone structure is an ocean pool, designed to let swimmers do laps while still enjoying the natural water.

  • ACLU sues police for arresting illegal immigrant

    AKanomymoose sends us a link to the story of Alex Caceda-Mantilla, a Peruvian immigrant who had overstayed his visa when he was arrested in Palmer, Alaska on a US Immigration Detainer warrant;

    The ACLU says Alex Caceda, 38, had been working at Klondike Mike’s Saloon in Palmer when a bouncer attempted to throw out three men involved in a confrontation with a bartender who had just finished her shift.

    Caceda was attempting to come to the aid of the bartender and was beaten in the melee, the attorneys say. When Palmer police arrived to sort things out, a wounded Caceda thought they wanted to talk to him because he was the victim of an attack, according to the lawsuit.

    Instead, Caceda left in handcuffs. Police reports obtained by the ACLU in the case say officers determined that Caceda was living in the United States illegally.

    “Caceda was an illegal alien and had a U.S. Immigration Detainer warrant for his arrest,” wrote Palmer police officer Jamie Hammons. “I confirmed the warrant was active and arrested Caceda.”

    Caceda is from Peru and was living in the United States illegally, having overstayed a non-immigrant visa by several years, according to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman. Court records show he has no apparent criminal history in Alaska.

    So, the ACLU filed a lawsuit against the police department because they arrested a criminal with a warrant on his ass.

    “We want the vulnerable communities in Alaska to know that they can call on the police for protection and not have to be worried about being ripped out of their lives and taken away because federal immigration law is being enforced,” said [Casey] Reynolds, the ACLU of Alaska spokesman.

    I guess Casey wasn’t able to pass that statement through his brain before making it public.

  • Terrorist attack in France

    Fox News reports that a terrorist is holed up in a supermarket in Trebes after ambushing a group of policemen who were jogging near Carcassonne, France this morning;

    The gunman then took shelter inside the supermarket in Trebes and reportedly yelled “Allahu Akbar!” which roughly translates to “God is Great!” in Arabic.

    The suspect also reportedly said “he is ready to die for Syria” and demanded Abdeslam be released from custody. Abdeslam is the lone surviving member of an ISIS terror cell behind the deadly 2015 attacks in Paris that killed 130 people at a theatre, the national stadium and cafes.

    Two people are dead and twelve are injured. The gunman has released all of the hostages except one police officer.

    Too bad the French don’t have draconian gun control laws that would have prevented this terrorist from possessing a rifle.

  • Explosion at Travis Air Force Base gate

    According to NBC News, a driver tried to get his vehicle bomb on Travis Air Force Base, but that the device only killed the driver instead;

    “The guy came to the gate with propane tanks in his vehicle, he started reaching for what looked like an I.D card, started messing with a fuel ignition source to blow the propane tanks. He then drove into the outbound portion of the lane where he burned to death. The Airman was working the lane the driver came through attempted to save the man’s life, but the propane tanks burned the man up. We closed the 1 ton black gates manually. We didn’t know if it was a terrorist attack or a suicide, but we were using the word Bomb for the incident. He stopped initially to confront the guard, but the Security Force member screamed he had a Bomb and ran for cover. The car then sped off an burst into flames.

    CBS News is reporting that the incident is being investigated as an act of terrorism;

    The driver has been identified by law enforcement, but has not been named, according to CBS News reporter John Blackstone.

    No shots were fired. The FBI is joining the Air Force in the investigation of the security breach.

    One of these days they’re going to get lucky. They don’t need scary-looking, black rifles to kill.

    ABC says that his name is Hafiz Kazi;

    A man who was killed in a fiery crash at Travis AFB’s main gate has been identified as 51-year-old Hafiz Kazi.

    Sources described Kazi as a “nomad” and a “vagabond,” who lived in many places.

    Authorities extracted a video from his cell phone and are analyzing it to try and see if it could help point to a motive. Sources wouldn’t offer any details about the video.

  • Ronnie Lee Yocum aka Ron Norris; phony Vietnam veteran

    Ronnie Lee Yocum aka Ron Norris; phony Vietnam veteran

    Someone sent us their work on this Ron Norris fellow who claims to be a Vietnam veteran of the Marine Corps variety.

    Of course, there’s a motorcycle and a vest involved;

    Here he is quoted in the Muskogee Phoenix;

    Ron Norris remembers being under Viet Cong artillery fire for 72 days in 1968 at Khe Sanh in Vietnam. He was in force reconnaissance with 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines.

    This week, Norris came to the Muskogee War Memorial Park to see “The Wall That Heals” is a 250-foot replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.

    Seeing the Vietnam moving wall means a lot, Norris said.

    “We’re bringing something to the people who didn’t know anything that happened from 1968 on,” Norris said.

    Well, he’s much more proud of his service now than when he was in uniform. He was a Marine during the Vietnam War, for about nine months, more than two of which he spent as a deserter; he took leave in July and didn’t come back until September.

    He spent the last three months of service in confinement and awaiting his discharge – no Vietnam service, no combat action, no Purple Heart.

    He’s kiddie toucher, too;

  • Friday morning feel good stories

    Friday morning feel good stories

    From White City, Oregon;

    30-year-old James Bennett is currently in the hospital, and will be brought to jail once he is released.

    Detectives believe that Bennett and at least one accomplice approached an apartment on the 7600 block of Division Road in White City with the intent of committing a crime. In attempting a home invasion robbery, Bennett was shot by a resident.

    Bennett called 911 for medical attention around 8:19 p.m. that evening. Deputies found him near Division Road and Carr Street. Bennett was transported to Rogue Medical Center with a single gunshot wound to the stomach.

    The shooter’s name has not been released, and JCSO says that he has been cooperating with investigators.

    From New Orleans, Louisiana;

    It happened at Thai D-Jing food truck around 8 p.m., which was parked in the 200 block of Morgan Street.

    According to an initial police report, after closing down for the night, the 37-year-old victim recognized someone who robbed him last week approaching his truck. The victim locked the doors, but the alleged robber tried to open them before jumping on the hood of the truck and pulling out a gun.

    Police said the victim fired one shot through the window and the alleged robber ran away.

    An initial police report said the same truck was robbed last Wednesday night while parked at the same location. In that robbery, the victim said an armed man stuck his head into the driver’s side of the truck. The man reportedly threatened to shoot employees if they did not give him money. The employees did, and police say the man ran away.

    Donald Kimball; phony Silver Star, Purple Heart hero

    The folks at Military Phonies send us their work on this fellow, Donnie Kimball, from Pensacola, Florida, who claims to be a Marine Corps Vietnam veteran with a Silver Star and a Purple Heart, and there are license plates and a motorcycle vest involved;

    Well, he was a Marine and he did serve in Vietnam, as a clerk in the local Marine Corps exchange (BX) and as a supply clerk in a Headquarters and Service Company;

    No Silver Star, no Purple Heart, not even a Combat Action Ribbon to indicate that Donnie heard any shots fired in anger.

    But, he does get an award for most creative excuse for missing records;

  • USS Ralph Johnson to be commissioned Saturday

    USS Ralph Johnson to be commissioned Saturday

    Clay sends us the news that USS Ralph Johnson. an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, has arrived in Charleston, South Carolina for it’s commissioning ceremony on Saturday. The destroyer is named for Charleston native Marine Private First Class Ralph Johnson who sacrificed his life for those of his Marine Corps brothers when he shielded them from a grenade blast with his body;

    In the early morning hours of Mar. 5, 1968 during Operation ROCK, Private First Class Johnson and his 15-man reconnaissance patrol manned an observation post on Hill 146 overlooking the Quan Duc Duc Valley deep in enemy controlled territory. They were attacked by a platoon-size hostile force employing automatic weapons, satchel charges and hand grenades.

    As the enemy raced up the hill, a hand grenade landed in the three-man fighting hole occupied by Pfc. Johnson and two fellow Marines. Realizing the danger to his comrades, Pfc. Johnson shouted a warning and willingly hurled himself upon the explosive device.

    When the grenade exploded, Pfc. Johnson absorbed the impact of the blast and was killed instantly. His heroic act saved the life of a fellow Marine at the cost of his own and prevented the enemy from penetrating his sector of the patrol’s perimeter.

    Pfc. Johnson was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously.

    The VA hospital in Charleston also bears his most honorable name.
