    MSG Finley James Davis comes home

    Hondo told us back in August that DPAA had identified the earthly remains of Master Sergeant Finley James Davis of Company D, 2nd Engineer Combat Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division. Today we learn that he will be delivered to the arms of his great-grandson, Army Specialist Zachary Boney of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. From ABC 11;

    All his life, he’s heard countless stories from his grandmother about the hero of a great-grandfather he had. Roseann Stonestreet was just 12 years old when her father went off to the war. She still remembers the last day she spent with her dad.

    “He took me to the movies. I remember the name of the movie and I remember who played in it,” said Stonestreet.

    Her mother died almost 20 years ago in 1999 with a broken heart. After 66 years, Roseann got a call she’d never expect. Her dad’s body was found in North Korea.

    “It’s the biggest blessing I could ever imagine,” said Stonestreet.

    She told ABC11 that she selected her grandson to escort the remains home. He said his great-grandfather is part of the reason why he joined the military in the first place.

    Boney will bury his great-grandfather’s remains in two weeks in Charleston, South Carolina.

    Eric Smith arrested for grand theft

    37-year-old Eric Smith, a former NY National Guardsman and a police officer of the New York Police Department was arrested for giving false documents to his landlord claiming that he was stationed on Long Island as a member of the Joint Task Force Empire Shield. Smith was a member of the task force from 2011 to 2014, but after his time was up, he liked the perk about lower rent too much, according to Newsday;

    From 2015 through 2017, Smith gave his landlord, Balfour Beatty LLC, forged military orders to continue paying reduced rent at Mitchel Homes in East Meadow, she said.

    He is charged with grand larceny in third degree, among other felonies, Singas said in a statement.

    “This benefit exists to help armed services members while they are deployed in defense of our county, but this defendant allegedly filed multiple fake orders and stole more than $34,000 in the process,” Singas said.

    Smith’s lawyer was not immediately available for comment.

    Prosecutors said he could be sentenced to 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison if found guilty of these felonies: grand larceny, criminal possession of a forged instrument and falsifying business records.

  • Friday morning feel good stories

    Friday morning feel good stories

    From Corpus Christie, Texas;

    Authorities say officers have shot and killed a man who was one of several suspects involved in an early-morning home invasion in Corpus Christi.

    Corpus Christi police say the man died at an apartment complex Wednesday after he and others were seen leaving an apartment.

    Authorities say a woman in the apartment called police to say a group of men had forced their way in, had assaulted people inside and were taking items with them.

    At least one was armed with a gun.

    It wasn’t clear why officers were prompted to fire on the man who was killed.

    Another man was arrested and at least one other fled as police arrived.

    From Creve Coeur, Missouri;

    A St. Louis-area man who helped rob a jewelry store here shot himself during the heist, giving investigators DNA to connect him to the crime, according to federal charges.

    Michael Anderson Gladney, 41, was charged Friday by complaint in U.S. District Court in St. Louis with armed robbery and one count of possessing and discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. He was arrested Wednesday.

    Prosecutors say he and three other men entered Vincent’s Jewelers at 11733 Olive Boulevard at about 12:40 p.m. on March 19. One had a pipe and three others, including Gladney, were armed with guns, they said. The robbers ordered workers to the rear of the store and fired into a jewelry case to get at the merchandise inside, prosecutors said.

    Gladney shot himself during the robbery and left a trail of blood from a glass case to where a getaway car was parked, prosecutors said. St. Louis County police used that blood to obtain DNA, and matched it to a sample from Gladney in a law enforcement database, prosecutors said.

  • Deerfield, Illinois bans scary-looking black rifles to “increase the public’s sense of safety”

    CBS News reports that Deerfield, Illinois city council voted to ban scary-looking black rifles as well as ammunition magazines which hold more than ten bullets. Their reasoning for the ordinance is to “increase the public’s sense of safety.” Not to make the public more safe, but rather to make the public FEEL safer.

    The ordinance states, “The possession, manufacture and sale of assault weapons in the Village of Deerfield is not reasonably necessary to protect an individual’s right of self-defense or the preservation or efficiency of a well-regulated militia.”

    So, beginning June 13, banned assault weapons in Deerfield will include semiautomatic rifles with a fixed magazine and a capacity to hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition, shotguns with revolving cylinders, and conversion kits from which assault weapons can be assembled. And those are just a few of the firearm varieties banned. The list is long and includes all the following models or duplicates thereof: AK, AKM, AKS, AK-47, AK-74, ARM, MAK90, Misr, NHM 90, NHM 91, SA 85, SA 93, VEPR, AR-10, AR-15, Bushmaster XM15, Armalite M15, Olympic Arms PCR, AR70, Calico Liberty, Dragunov SVD Sniper Rifle, Dragunov SVU, Fabrique NationalFN/FAL, FN/LAR, FNC, Hi-Point Carbine, HK-91, Kel-Tec Sub Rifle, SAR-8, Sturm, Ruger Mini-14, and more.

    So residents have until June 13 to voluntarily turn over their offending firearms after which they face a fine of $1000/day until they comply with the law. Of course, in order to enforce the law, the council will have to suspend the Fourth Amendment protections against “unreasonable searches and seizures” to conduct house-to-house inspections for the guns they seek to confiscate.

    The measure passed unanimously in the council.

    “We hope that our local decision helps spur state and national leaders to take steps to make our communities safer,” Deerfield Mayor Harriet Rosenthal said in a press release…

    But don’t worry, the gun-grabbing Leftists don’t want to take your guns away from you.
