I served with the First Battalion, Ninth Marines in Vietnam from October 1966 to December 1967. When I returned from Vietnam, nobody wanted to pretend to be a Vietnam Veteran. You had to be very careful even to whom you disclosed this information. Now that Vietnam Vets are finally getting some glory and recognition for their service, all kinds of kooks come out of the woodwork to claim that they were Vietnam Veterans. It does not take much of a conversation with them to determine that they are fakes. I am glad to see them being outed and shown for what they are! We paid the price for our service, and they do not deserve any of the recognition that we fought so hard to get.
