Proof that hindsight is 20/20;
New CBS poll: Americans divided over use of atomic bomb in Hiroshima & Nagasaki in 1945. 43% approve and 44% disapprove.
— ReenaCBS (@reenaninan) May 27, 2016
I’m thinking a poll in 1945, which would be more relevant, anyway, would have quite different results. Folks with actual skin in the game would probably have vastly different opinions. But, these days, Americans are more comfortable having no skin in any game – their opinions reflect that attitude.
I hear that the next CBS poll will be ask Americans if the Revolution was really necessary.
Anyway, our picture for the weekend thread comes from a joint effort of Frankie and Ex-PH2

The end is near….

Look at the bright side. They can’t reproduce. Ever.
And now for some things to perhaps close out the comments for this WOT.
It is still getting cool enough overnight out here in my part of the western territories that frost is still forming on the roof tops and the birds trying to have little ones in my converted feeder/turned nesting box have now had two batches frost killed.
As far as we know, everything is yet a go for a this coming weekend get together of Phu Bai vets here at Stately Claw Manor for me, sj, and 3/17 Air Cav. Hopefully we will be able to solve a few of the world’s problems in between Bullshit sessions and have some pictures taken of us before we forget what we were looking for and why we came into this room.
Scooby had his ass handed to him by the cat down the street the other morning on our daily walk and that’s about all for now.
I hung the flag out yesterday, as always.
After sunset, I went out to take it down.
Temps last night dropped below 60F and the chill is starting to creep south again from Hudson’s Bay.
Claw- will we need to start a Go Fund Me campaign to collect bail money for you two?
Wives will be present so should be tame. Plus, we’re geezers all.
Heading your way Claw! Leaving Nellis in a few with a stopover in Salt Lake. See you Fri but too late for the WOT kickoff. Have I mentioned that Phu Bai sucked?
OK. Same deal for 3/17. He said he would call me on Thursday afternoon from his stopover at his old baseball buddies place in LaGrande and would make it to here Friday afternoon.
Seems to me that we have talked about beautiful North Phu Bai a couple of time before and what a Garden of Eden it was./smile.
Oops, forgot to hit the reply button in response to sj’s 10:27 am comment.
I blame it all on Scooby. In reply to nbcguy, make that enough Go Fund Me bail money to cover three men and three dogs.
Somewhere over the weekend there will be dogs being arrested for Disturbing The Peace somehow.
Claw, I asked Admin to forward something to you for your weekend of ‘BTDT’. If he forgets, send Scooby after him.
Yep, Got it. Thank You very much.
It will apply more to 3/17 than me. He had a lot more experience with that kind of ass in the grass BTDT than I did.
Claw……a lot of memories surfaced for me this past three day weekend! Going out that first time. Air mobile as a grunt. Young kid, scared out of my mind. Jump out, form up, run for the tree line. I think about it most everyday! Esp. Yesterday!
I’ve got everything lined up. Thursday, lunch with one of my baseball guys, in The Dalles, then, Thursday, in LaGrande for dinner with another. See you on Friday.
OK. Got it. Looking forward to seeing you again, as well as us getting together with new/old friends.
I have 2 dogs (and 2 cats).
Well, dogs are allowed. I have a big back yard for them to romp in, provided they won’t jump a five foot fence. Scooby has never met another dog he couldn’t make friends with.
The cats, well, all I can say is, Scooby likes to have “confrontations” with them./smile
I’ll leave them duct taped in the RV.
And I just did my fuel calculations. 600 miles and I burn 6MPG. 50 gallons should do it.
If I run out, I’ll sue Winnebago and Ford.
Yep, based on Bernathian Math for fuel calculations, you should auger in just about at Provo on your way up here.
During WW2, we bombed German, Italian & Japanese cities believing they would surrender. The 3 year old German, Italian & Japanese kids are innocent even if parents were guilty. The side with the better weapons & military strategies wins the war. If Germany, Italy & Japan had the atom bombs, they would have used them against us & we’d possibly still be dealing with them today.
My view always will be that the atom bombs should have been dropped in other places in Japan with fewer civilians death but admit that there is no guarantee there would be surrender. There are only wrong and bad choices which President Harry S. Truman had. There was no guarantee that Japan would surrender after Hiroshima and Nagasaki as they had not surrendered after Tokyo and other cities were bombed with so many civilian deaths.
If it goes to an invasion, many more civilians get killed and Japanese would have used women and children soldiers. Japanese boys would fly planes in kamikaze missions. In Okinawa, families committed suicide such as Japanese women with their children would jump off of cliffs to their deaths.
