      1. Miss Ex-PH2….as has been said to me many time, “Do you kiss your Mother with that mouth??”

        (>y<)

        /well you *are* a sailor
        ;-D

          1. I’m sorry but that’s wasn’t meant to be a jab at you or your Sainted Mother, but yes, MY Mom is the one that says that to me when I swear.
            LOL

      1. You have followed the teaching of us that have worn the crown, my son… your name shall be entered into the Book of WOT, blessed by St. Jonn of TAH, annointed by EX-PH2 and the lionesses of TAH and held in high esteem for one week.

NOW GIT YOU ASS BACK TO WORK! 😉

    1. This issue of postings being listed during the same minute causes me no end of grief. I recently visited the matter in the hopes of learning whether there is a way to determine whether the one that appears first was necessarily sent first. The answer is no, that someone could hit “Post Comment” a second ahead of one or more people and appear here as 2nd or 3rd. Quick fingers and quick routing through AlGore’s www control. Now, if someone wants to move that the rules be amended to allow for official ties, I will not object. In fact, I have a hoss story to tell regarding this. Many years ago I was at Old Hilltop (Pimlico) and there was a three-horse entry, meaning for a bet, you get all three horses. Anyway, the three stablemates hit the wire at the exact same time. No problem, right, the rules covered deadheats. They did, but only partially. No one foresaw that more than a two-horse entry might tie, so there was no rule regarding how to pay the Exacta (or Perfecta.)

      1. Per a prior comment, there’s probably no way to solve a network latency issue short of someone moving closer to the TAH server with less distance and/or fewer hops.

One way to eliminate the appearance of a tie is to make the timestamps more fine grained; instead of simply recording hours and minutes, the recording is set to hours-minutes-seconds-10th seconds or whatever. IIRC, a typical WordPress weblog running off a MySQL database would need to have a “time” type database field changed to reflect the new parameters.

        1. Yeah, Perry, I based what I wrote above on what you wrote last week (or was it the week before last?)in reply to my inquiry. If no one moves to have ties, with a second and third to carry it, there will be only one firsty per week.

      2. “Now, if someone wants to move that the rules be amended to allow for official ties, I will not object.”

        So moved.

    1. WORK –

THAT five-letter cuss word THAT INTERFERES with the important things in life like beer drinking, hunting and fishing.

  1. Wow a Threesome and *I* used an exclamation point as the rules require.

    *WHISTLE*

“We’re going to review the play…..”

    1. Five guys claiming ‘first’ at 12:52 on the official TAH clock.

I don’t believe that I’ve seen this close of a finish here on the WOT before…

      1. Another lurker here with a fish story that you won’t believe but here goes..i have been addicted to this blog for about a year…about six months ago I pull up wot and I was first…I didn’t know how to handle it, after I realized that I really was first, I was afraid that you’d all pounce on me since I was a noob, I wish I would have had the nerve to call it,but I’m afraid ill just have to pay closer attention..love this blog, You guys made me support Trump without having to apologize

      1. Absolutely.

My WOT victory bash will last the entire weekend and be celebrated the world over!

        1. There you go being all gentlemanly and such.

Keeping the rules, keeping the books, using hoity-toity language – what are we to do you with you?

            1. We hereby double and re-double your TAH salary. Let me see: Carry the three, cris-cross the first digit, drop the two and multiply the whole mess by zero. Don’t spend it all in one place.

  2. Oh, this is rich. I hang around waiting for my chance to be first … Ex-PH2 says, “It’s coming,” so I go to Facebook and watch a cat video …

BANG. I come back, the WOT is already posted and I’m, what, thirteenth?

My life sucks. At least I got a standing ovation (along with the rest of the cast) at last night’s community theater production.

How many of YOU can say that????

    1. I could feel the tension in the air. It was palpable, like the pressure before a severe thunderstorm. I knew that if I let WOT loose too soon, the reaction would barely jam the internet and certainly not even bring it to a sluggish slowdown.

So I waited. I gave youse guys lots of stuff to chew on!!!

    1. Nah… I’m sure Danni-boi has been sprung.

But I’ve heard he still gives it away for free to various hobos, tramps and addicts.

  3. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!
I go wash my damn lunch bowl and 26 comments already.
And ya’ll were late as hell!!

        1. Unfortunately, the order granting the motion only dismisses the claims against Ben Shapiro and not the other defendants, including former SF MSG Jim Hanson. Maybe the rest of the defendants will file a “me too” motion to dismiss.

  4. I thought the official posting was supposed to be around 1300 hours? I think we had a little premature posting here, what to the official TAH rulebook say? Inquiring minds want to know?

    1. There is no rule regarding the posting hour. It generally comes within the same hour and a half period each Friday but has been posted earlier than noon on a few occasions. At least once, the Blog Owner posted it on a Thursday afternoon.

    2. The official posting isn’t a set time, but the time in which it shows up is dependent on your time zone. In mine, it’s an hour early. In Hong Kong, it would be around midnight.

      1. So, when does the weekend begin? Is it Friday? Friday after work? Friday if off? And if the last, what if one is off all week?

        1. Would suggest that for purposes of the Weekend Open Thread, aka WOT, only, but subject to others coopting the meaning of the term for their own use should they so desire, that the true meaning of “week-end” is irrelevant. To the addlepated and/or otherwise simple of mind, the WOT can be posted whenever the poster wishes to post it. It is customary that it be posted after noon on Friday EST/EDT. Thought that was covered under Rule 78.a.6, but that may have changed recently. Or my rememberer may be on indefinite pause. Either way, A/C, it is up to you to decide. Just making a suggestion based on nothing in particular.

  5. Commander’s call was held in the morning today. I had no chance at the glory so I guess I’ll have to save my attempt for next week.

“de-railed by circumstances beyond my control” has been the story of the last two days for me.

    1. Glory it is. Among the many who visit here monthly, among the dozens and dozens of threads and thousands of comments, there is only one WOT and it comes but once every week. There are dedicated TAH Dickweeds who stand at the ready each Friday around noon, constantly hitting refresh with the singular aim of declaring “First!” and being first. Relatively few know the delirium of triumph in this endeavor. Glory, indeed. It is a glory unlike any other, to be recorded for posterity in the sacred “Book of Firsts.” Good luck.

      1. “dedicated TAH Dickweeds” appears to be a very accurate and appropriate descriptive for those engaged in this endeavor to know the “delirium of triumph.”

        You’re on a word-smithing roll today, Cav.

    1. Well, aren’t they just cute? Wait ’til they apply for jobs some place and their battery charges show up on a search.

    1. I’m hoping she gets some revenge for the bombing… and for the CO, CMDCM James Parlier (CMC) and her crew that were onboard her on that fateful day.

I got to work with CMDCM Parlier after that – good man that did the right thing for the crew.

      1. I would be honored to be on that crew.

It would be so, so, soooo sweet to sink the boats of those cocksuckers with my .50 cal.

        Rest in peace, shipmates.

        1. Several years ago, after walking Antietam Battlefield, I drove through the near town and saw a cemetery. I stopped and walked in. In the back there was a grave that caught my attention. It had a medallion or badge on it or beside it (I can’t recall) that read, “USS Cole.” Resting there was Craig Bryan Wibberley, 19, a sailor who was killed in that attack.

        2. Not just a .50 Cal. manning a MK19 would be good as well, nothing like rock-and-rolling on an approaching enemy with belt-fed 40MM HEDP grenades which will handily splinter if not vaporize a number of the flimsy boats they use!

  6. A “feel good” story:

Remember Richard Overton, oldest Veteran that Jonn featured a while back?

    https://www.azuse.cloud/?p=65721

    https://www.azuse.cloud/?p=38371

He is now needing 24/7 homecare. A Go Fund Me site is asking for donations to keep him living in his home instead of a nursing home.

So far, 134,255 of $150k goal has been met since the site was created on 27 December 2016.

And the Go Fund Me page:

    https://www.gofundme.com/Help-Richard-Overton

110 Years Young. And he loves his cigars, whiskey and guns.

So much for hearing that smoking, drinking and shooting shortens one’s own life.

      1. Well, he did outlive two wives, so he must have loved those as well..

        *Smile*

A repeat of a video that featured him when he turned 109.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubrvCLL9X2E

And hopefully, he will be smoking those cigars, getting his guns out of his underwear drawer and drinking some good whiskey this May when he turns 111.

        1. “And hopefully, he will be smoking those cigars, getting his guns out of his underwear drawer and drinking some good whiskey this May when he turns 111.”

And I wish him many more!

    1. OK, I did my part for the old warrior. You cheap bastards get over there and open your wallets. Those first on WOT must donate NLT $100. Suck it …

  7. I’ve never been first here, second being my best. I’ve been cheated on several occasions by the usual suspects, but let’s not go into that. /s

BUT … This man was definitely first. The following was said about George Washington upon his death in DEC1799, by Henry “Light Horse Harry” Lee.

“First in War, First in Peace, and First in the Hearts of His Countrymen.”

  8. As I take this opportunity to bask in the genteel applause of the TAH faithful on my decisive WOT victory, I pause to reflect and pay tribute to those that fell short.

    Too bad so sad.

    Neener-neener-neener.

Today is a day of celebration. I decree that from this day forward, February 3rd shall now be know as “ex-OS2 Day”.

All those that refuse to properly celebrate will suffer titty-twisters and raspberries administered by Lars “Zika-Commie” Taylor.

I lift my frothy mug to you….

    1. Not sure how much celebrating I have left in me – been doing the dress rehearsal bit all week in anticipation of your victory. So well practiced – may have peaked too early.

      There’s always next week.

      1. Celebration for my guaranteed WOT victory next week will commence Monday 2/6/2017 @ 0600.

        Happy ex-OS2 Day!

    1. I’m trying hard to not laugh over ‘homemade explosive device’ and the idea that a table to could stop it from doing any damage. But, yes, I believe the reporter says that the FBI, etc., are being asked to investigate it, too.

      1. I had to laugh when I heard “homemade explosive device” this morning. It’s not like they’re available ready-made at Walmart.

    1. In the words of Tech Segreat Chen:

“It’s the simple things in life you treasure.”

  9. An update on “Stolen Valorist” Kyle Christopher Barwan: As of 6 PM Eastern time, he was still the guest of Sheriff Grady Judd, in the Polk County, Florida jail, unable to find a way to come up with a $5,000.oo Surety bond. Along with being able to make bail, he will have to be able to offer a Polk County address where he will reside. That too, looks pretty near hopeless for him. By the time he gets to trial, his “block name” may be “Stretched”.

    1. He’ll be ready for the next season in the PFL (Prison Football League)… as a “WIDE RECEIVER”!

  10. When the going gets tough and folks aren’t nice, pull down your pants and slide on the ice!

  11. The Dems in California are pushing Secession (again! 1860 all over again). But do they not expect ~35% of their population to object?

Of course they do. And they will likely do everything in their power to drive those folks out: taxes, laws, and later, civil unrest and “temporary service interruptions”.

As the loyalists vacate, more settling of others, more reliably loyal to Master: “Land reform”, “redistribution”, and eventually forced-relocation tranquility.

Why? Because the one thing that will bring in the US armed forces is trying to disenfranchise large numbers of loyal Americans. Their rights are enforceble (remember Little Rock?) thus rather inconvinient to the would-be secessionists.

What I havent figured out is how they plan to hang on to all the power and water they need, being a net importer of both. But the secessionists have to have considered this.

Hostages? Trade the holdouts for a power and water treaty?

Next two years get interesting. If the Dems lose further seats in 2018, especially Senate, then California probably goes whole-hog secessionist.

    Interesting times indeed!

      1. I thinks it’s funny that the succesionists don’t think the Red counties will not go all West Virginia on them.

    1. Dunno. Calexit seems like the sideshow of a small faction gaming the initiative process. The main event is more likely to be the fight over illegal alien sanctuaries.

On Tuesday, San Francisco filed a lawsuit against President Trump’s executive order threatening to cut federal funding to sanctuary cities. Per some reports, the city would stand to lose $1.2 Billion annually while acting as a shelter for an estimated 44,000 undocumented immigrants.

At least one irony of the San Francisco lawsuit is that it cites the “sovereignty” of the city under the 10th Amendment as rationale for the legal move. Never mind that open borders and the sovereignty of the U.S. is what’s at stake in the first place.

Meanwhile, also on Tuesday, a state senate bill sponsored by Senate President Kevin de Leon passed through the initial committee stage, and would prevent “state law enforcement from working with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to identify or detain people for deportation,” according to The Intercept. If adopted, it would in effect turn California into a sanctuary state.

      1. I can certainly respect discussion 10th Amendment issues, as I prefer it not become a dead letter.

Settled SCOTUS case – the Federal government is responsible for immigration law and policy, not the states, By inference, that was ceded to the Federal level when the States joined together.

Now at what point does the “sanctuary state” cross over form not being told what to do, into actively thwarting, AKA “obstruction of Justice”?

Example: Little Rock. The Supreme Court said “separate is not equal”. Ordered to integrate, the Dems said “Oh -hell- no!”, going so far as to call out state troops. Vexed, the Federal government (Eisenhower – Republican) sent in Federal troops to enforce the decision.

At some point, the verbal/legal argument ends in stalemate and force is declared. The Federals usually win that one, and have rather reliably since the Whiskey Rebellion.

This is not necessarily good for Liberty, as the point of a Bayonet makes for rather bad law.

But if things continue as they are, we will again see the troops called out. And that will get decidedly messy.

My prediction: if the Dems continue to lose Congressional seats in 2018, especially if the Senate goes 60+ Republican, we will have de-facto insurrection in significant areas before 2020, possibly as early as 2018.

All compromise is being self-purged from the Dems, and being replaced by rage.

  12. Are there any updates on Crash-and-Bernath’s arraignment? Was it a minority female judge and a minority female prosecutor for him to offend and get held in contempt by someone other than us?

  13. I haven’t been able to get on TAH much the past few days, so allow me to unintentionally stir the pot – word is President Trump wasn’t in the Situation Room during DEVGRU’s op in Yemen.

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/donald-trump-not-in-situation-room-yemen-raid-30-civilians-killed-us-navy-seal-dead-first-military-a7561596.html

I can understand he’s a busy man and all, but shouldn’t the President be present for such a high-risk operation? I’d guess, and I could be wrong, that if Obama had skipped an op like this he’d be held in some contempt, so is this acceptable, routine, or pretty lousy? I’m genuinely curious to hear opinions.

As a side note, I know Hondo is still away, but is that ‘away-and-not-well’, or ‘away-and-fine’? Anyone know?

    1. Are you talking about the raid that was planned under the Obama administration?

All missions are high risk, was Obama in the Situation Room for all of them during his reign?

I will concede and place the blame on Bush.

      1. Planned, but not executed. And I’m not finding any fault with the President for the outcome of the mission -high risk involves the potential for losses and collateral damage, no question- but I’m thinking if I’m President, and I’m authorizing my first mission into Yemen, I’m going to be in the Situation Room following it live.

And, again, had this been Obama, I think he’d take flack from conservatives for not being there (‘playing golf’, metaphorically), so shouldn’t Trump come under the same criticism? Then again, there’s nothing he can do but follow, so maybe not. I don’t know which way I feel, so I’m curious to hear thoughts on it from others.

        1. Fair enough.

He was advised throughout the mission.

Remind me where Obama was during the Benghazi attack? White House visitor logs indicate Michael Donilon, David Ginsberg, and Ron Klain where there for “debate prep”.

Remind me where Obama was the day after the Benghazi attacks for his security briefing. My memory is fuzzy but I think maybe burning fuel on Air Force One heading to Vegas.

I guess we can wait for the Presidential Daily Diary to be made available.

Nixon had an 18 1/2 minute gap, Obama had an 8 hour gap.

          1. Interestingly, there was no MSM outrage broadcasted 24/7 over it. Actually, there was no media coverage of it at all. To this day we still don’t know what Obama and Hillary were doing the night that four Americans were murdered.

Maybe Obama and the Bitch of Benghazi left Biden in the Situation Room during the Benghazi attack to keep and eye on things while Barack worked on his debate prep and Hillary checked her email while watching YouTube protest videos.

The MSM was sure to snap photos of the Situation Room during the bin laden raid.

Meh, what difference at this point does it make?

        2. LC, I, too, would probably be so curious that I would be glued to the screen for that first mission. That alone may define why neither of us is president.

There are lost of other things to be doing. So my answer may be that it depends upon what he was doing instead of hanging out with the guys who were actually directing the action, and all the other folks who were just curious about it.

        3. LC. There were two instances involving the guy that President Trump replaced that come to mind. The first was the special op to get OBL. That was a watershed event and after playing some 15 hands of spades, according to his personal secretary, the guy President Trump replaced went into the situation room and watched some of the live stream. The second, about a year later, was Benghazi, an event that the guy spun madly to deflect criticism for his immense failure as commander in chief. (ex-OS2 covered this nicely.) In terms of import and interest, the raid in Yemen was not in the same neighborhood as the OBL mission or Benghazi. Hell, it wasn’t in the same zip code. Whether President Trump watched live, afterwards, or not at all is neither here nor there. That you would have watched if you were president is neither here nor there either.

    2. That Hobo fellow is/has been on the road a lot, from what he has said recently. Probably chasing buffalo chips and making money at the blackjack tables.

    3. No, the President should not micro-manage missions.

We rightly chastize Johnson for that crap.

Issue the orders. Allow subordinate leaders to do their jobs.

A raid on a platoon of goobers, even a higher HQ platoon, is -not- a big deal. Infantry would call it the daily grind.

I would guess this was the test of “can I delegate, here”. Also of, “is the system in place, and plans, good enough?”

      Expect changes.

      .

    1. Truly sad indeed. My thought is, how does a “youth” know if they are transgender or not? Answer, they don’t. Until they are steered and guided by bad parents, bad teachers, bad counselors, etc. into thinking they are something other than they are.

  14. Why is the Superbowl this coming Sunday instead of last weekend? Did the Earth shift in its orbit and nobody told me?

Glad I do not have a TV right now. I would throw things at it.

    1. If I recall, it was a lost Executive Order that Bush signed over a decade ago. So, technically we can say that it is Bush’s fault that the Superbowl is this Sunday.

  15. https://regiehammblog.wordpress.com/2017/02/01/this-hitler-nonsense/

    Great Article…

I am not an expert on Hitler. But my father is.

He toured post-war Germany extensively in 1957 and ’58 as a child performer. And he often recounts the stories. He befriended teenage Lebensborn children (if you don’t know what Lebensborn children are …well …before you post anymore about Hitler you should read about them). He visited an SS widow and got a peek at her husband’s uniform and Luger (that he’d committed suicide with), she had stored in an old trunk, in the attic.

These and other intense experiences in Germany sent my father on a life-long quest to understand this sociopath (Hitler) and the country that allowed itself to be dragged into one of the darkest chapters in world history. My dad is a Hitler/Nazi buff the way Indiana Jones’ dad was a Holy Grail buff.

As the son of a man with this hobby (one might call obsession) I learned a lot about Hitler and the Third Reich just by osmosis, growing up. My father would weave WWII stories into his sermons. He would talk about new books he was reading on the subject. When I was nine-years-old I bought him a book on the battle of Stalingrad for Christmas. Not a tie or a pair of socks. A book …on the battle …of Stalingrad. Yeah …it was kinda like that.

The thing my father and I have often discussed, through the years, is the eye-rolling art of comparing American presidents to Hitler. It is such an absurdity we find it amusing …and frustrating. It’s often just a punch line. Like the Soup Nazi wasn’t really a Nazi. He was just mean. The Nazi part made it funny. You know …over-the-top. Like “grammar Nazi” or “spelling Nazi.” Nobody is really a “Nazi.” It’s our representation of something we consider jarring, strident, intractable and inhumane.

But the truth about Nazis isn’t funny at all. It’s bloody and horrible and gut churning. And it involves machine guns and butchery and inhumanity on a scale that takes your breath away. Nobody is really a “soup Nazi” …unless they served it in a concentration camp.

The idea of comparing an American president to Hitler is just as absurd …from any angle, in any context. The American system ITSELF pretty much prevents “Hitlers” from showing up. And America ITSELF is anathema to what Hitler was trying to create. An American ANYTHING or ANYONE is hard to fit into the Hitler model. It’s just not apples to apples.

There are some fundamental things to understand about Hitler:

    1. He took over a small, failing state that didn’t have separated government, enumerated powers or checks and balances. It’s difficult for a guy like that to show up here, in this system.

    2. His entire political career was violent from the beginning. There was always death in his wake. He didn’t just suddenly “turn” violent. It was a pattern …as it always is with sociopaths. This is THE most important thing to watch; the violence. I always keep an eye on who is rioting …breaking things …throwing rocks and bombs. It doesn’t make them Nazis. But it signals how far they’re willing to go.

    3. He entered office with his own personal military construct (the SS) with allegiance to him ONLY. They would carry out things the regular military would never carry out: i.e. the murder of private citizens and political opponents. Nothing like that exists or COULD exist in America. We simply wouldn’t allow it.

    4. He didn’t start out just killing Jews. He started out euthanizing people with special needs …for the betterment of the care-givers’ lives. (You can decide which side of the aisle favors the extermination of “inconvenient” people).

    5. He disarmed the population, then nationalized healthcare and education. (Two-out-of-three of those are Bernie Sanders moves …But, guess what? Bernie isn’t Hitler either …not by a long shot)

The list goes on and on. But the deal is this:

Hitler was a real life murdering sociopath. He wasn’t just a charismatic speaker who incrementally fell into bad behavior. He wasn’t just a racist corrupted by unfettered power. In other words, you or I probably couldn’t end up being Hitler. A garden variety KKK leader probably couldn’t end up being Hitler either …or a community organizer …or a New York real-estate tycoon. It’s not that easy or simple.

NONE of our American presidents have ever been Hitler. But the people of Germany certainly thought FDR was a murdering dictator when B-17s started dropping bombs on them. This is why you have to KNOW what you believe and why you believe it. Good guys and bad guys are often in the eyes of the beholder. And they often look similar in the fog of conflict. I would imagine Japanese Americans in internment camps wondered if their president was Hitler-like. Nope. Horrible act …but not close to Hitler.

To that point, ironically, the American president who could’ve actually been likened to Hitler (before Hitler) in some of his methods was …wait for it …Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln broke more constitutional law than any other president in U.S history. He imprisoned political opponents without due process. He suspended habeas corpus. He was personally responsible for the deaths of six hundred thousand people.

He invaded countries that had declared their own sovereignty and forced them back into a union they didn’t want to be a part of. He unilaterally annexed Nevada, without 60 thousand residents, (a pre-requisite for becoming a state) in order to carry it and win the 1864 election. In other words, he pretty much rigged it.

And when he was killed by the highest paid and most famous actor of his day (ironic …don’t you think?), the actor screamed “death to tyrants!” (in latin) because the man thought he was being a patriot for ridding the world of a dictator. But he wasn’t …and he didn’t.

Lincoln did all of those things to end and win the Civil War. And today we love him for it …as we should. Because in the end, his vision was right …even though his methods were suspect in the heat of the moment.

When people think they’re seeing a Hitler, they might actually – sometimes – be seeing something closer to a Churchill. Before WWII everyone thought Churchill was the big bad wolf. His own people hated him and thought he was a Hitler type character (again …pre-Hilter). But he just kept saying, “guys …I’m telling you. This Hitler guy is the real problem. Not me.” And he turned out to be right. There’s a difference between an abrasive leader who makes you uncomfortable …and a despot.

Now, people are comparing Donald Trump to Hitler. And the countdown has officially begun, to …well …I don’t know …but something really bad. I get that someone who is combative with the press and who wants to vet refugees and shut down open immigration fits the bill some are always looking for when it comes to finally getting their “Hitler” villain.

But if you study enough about it, you realize the guy vetting and banning refugees is probably not Hitler …the guy CREATING refugees probably is.

If we keep looking for Hitler in every United States president we disagree with, we’re not going to recognize the real one when he actually shows up …in a different country.

    1. “If we keep looking for Hitler in every United States president we disagree with, we’re not going to recognize the real one when he actually shows up …in a different country.”

      Cry wolf enough’
Let slip the dogs of despotism.

    2. It doesn’t make any sense to look for a hitlerian personality in someone who doesn’t have one.

It makes more sense to look for the guy who is sending anarchists into protests to cause destruction and turn a peaceful protest into violence. He’s the sociopath, not the president.

      1. How ’bout a certain multi-billionaire who is known to have corroborated with the Nazis during WWII and continues to bankroll a lot of the left wing riots and rumbles against President Trump and his administration?

    1. As of 0745 hours, this Sunday morning, February 5, 2017, Kyle Barwan rubbed the sleep out of his eyes, and faced a new day in the Polk County, Florida Jail. At least he has a roof over his head, and lots of guys that “want to get to know him better”.

  16. “Trump’s nominee for Army secretary drops out”

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/02/04/trumps-nominee-for-army-secretary-drops-out.html

“President Donald Trump’s nominee for Army secretary withdrew from consideration for the position on Friday night citing concerns over family businesses.”

“Vincent Viola, an Army veteran and founder of a stock trading firm, told Military Times that he was “deeply honored” to be in consideration for the position. “I appreciate the confidence President Trump showed in me,” Viola said.”

“Defense Secretary Jim Mattis was disappointed but understood and respected Viola’s decision, a Pentagon statement said. Mattis will recommend to Trump another candidate soon, the statement said….”

    1. If President Trump needs his advice, he remains a phone call away. He will most certainly answer the phone.

      1. Well, he probably consulted with his attys and learned that he would have to divest himself of control of his business or businesses and said, “Well, shit.”

  17. And in other military news of a sort, in response to President Trump’s concern regarding Iran, Iran flicked a booger on Saturday, test firing a missile. Iran doesn’t get it but they will. Israel has not been dawdling while the guy President Trump replaced was supporting Israel’s enemies and drawing imaginary Red Lines hither and yon. I expect that, before too long, more of Iran’s nuke science guys will blow up and a facility or two as well.

    1. Iran and many other ME Nations have and continue to underestimate Israel and I have ZERO sympathy for them every time the Israelis collect their pound of flesh in return.

  18. Audi’s Super Bowl commercial is catching a ton of flak for its message:

    https://pjmedia.com/video/audi-outed-for-promoting-fake-equal-pay-nonsense/

One of the best comments that I read for the story was over at Instapundit: https://pjmedia.com/instapundit/256365/#respond

“I really don’t respect Audi owners that much, ’cause they coulda bought a BMW with similar or better performance for about 10% less, and spent the rest on hookers and blow (Or their kid’s college, whatever)”

  19. About once, sometimes twice, a year my eldest brother calls me or I call him. We live many miles apart. Anyway, I just called him and got his voice mail. In a slow and deliberate voice, he recited the number reached and then said, “This is my message: impeach Trump.” What an asshole. I hung up.

    1. Call him again, leave a message as follows:
“Hi, it’s your brother 2/17. This is my message: you’re an asshole. Call me.”

    1. Good luck to the officers…as for Marilyn Mosby, she should pay – starting with her license to practice law – for her malicious prosecution of those officers.

      1. Something tells me that this is only the beginning of things for Marilyn Mosby, she initiated her downfall the moment she decided to sell her integrity and her soul for political gain.

  20. Unfortunately, some of you have first-hand experience with burying Veterans. I’m getting my stuff in order for me inevitable departure and I’d like to know whether there is any cost associated with burial in a Veterans Cemetery. Although the plot, marker, and flag are w/o cost, is there a marker installation fee or anything?

      1. Thanks. It appears there are no hidden costs. I;ll hard copy the instructions and place in my I-don’t-care-where-the -TV’s-remote-control-is-anymore folder.

      1. Whoa. Burial at sea? I would have thought that available only to water people, but I would have thought wrong. That’s not for me, thanks. I like wading pools. I like showers. That ocean business I leave to others.

        1. I figured you would go for the horse drawn caisson at extra cost. Make em cry good and hard.

          1. Actually, I just did my write-up for my wife. I asked that she and certain others attend a Mass, with or w/o my remains present. No viewing, no hoopla. Then, about a month or so after I am gone, I asked that she spring for a party of friends and family to sawp war stories and have a good time. I want no fanfare. I hate viewings and funerals and I’ll be damned if I want others subjected to mine.

            1. Glad you are doing this, 2/17 Air Cav.

Have personnel experience about trying to get family members to discuss Will, Burials, Probate,etc.etc.

Sadly, all were in denial. They did not want to talk about it, informed me that I was morbid to discuss it and to drop the subject.

And yet, when some family members died, they came to me for burial and probate. And then arguments started because of disagreements(the deceased refused to get wills).

Family is now split. Still trying to get reimbursed for funeral costs. It has been unpleasant and stressful, but I learned my lesson: I will never do it again (and I never said “I told you so.”)

              1. Sorry to hear that AP. I’ve been dealing with a similar scenario for many years. I just lost the last NOK and now must redo my durable proxy etc. Never let a relative handle an estate. It will tear the family apart. Hire an attorney.

For 2/17 Air Cav…good for you. Dying intestate leaves a mess. You are fortunate to have someone to discuss it with. My plans are in place. Just me and the honor guard with burial as close to my hero dad as possible.

                1. 26Limabeans:

                  Thank you.

Agree 100% with everything you wrote. Especially “Hire an attorney”, “Dying intestate leaves a mess” and “good for you” to 2/17 Air Cav.

Salute to you…and Thank You for serving our country.

                  1. For the benefit of others who may not know, the intestate business is neither a battery nor a roadway. It’s a fancy-pants word that means you bought the farm w/o a will. Those who kick off with a will are said to be testate, which has nothing to do with testes. Anyway, wills are good things, even if what you leave behind doesn’t seem to be much. That family heirloom or that flag that draped a certain Veteran’s coffin you may want to go to a particular someone with certainty. It’s true that if you have a spouse and you die intestate, your estate, as it’s called, distribution will be controlled by your state’s statute governing succession rules. But if you keep property in more than one state, it could get dicey. Attys suck. I know. You really don’t need one for most wills. What you need is to check out your state’s wills and estates statutes and see what the req’mts are for a will and filing it. Your local Register of Wills can help you. On the other hand, maybe you think you will live forever or you want to leave others headaches once your gone. In either case, you can forget what I just wrote.

                    2. “that flag that draped a certain Veteran’s coffin”

Make sure you fill out the current VA FORM 21-2008 in the presence of the funeral director to make sure that flag goes to whom you choose. Even after doing that my dads flag was taken by a relative and it took an attorney and the VA to get it back in my hands. During that mess I learned about a few other horror stories including one where a flag was torn during a fight over it. Sad. Make your wishes known to those who love you.

                    3. When I was on AD, anyone subject to deployment was required to make a will. They do need to be updated from time to time, though, and I probably should update mine. THe basics haven’t changed, but some of it simply isn’t applicable anymore.

  21. Been on a working party all fucking morning. I may rethink my guest list next week for WOT celebration aka ex-OS2 Day.

    Pfftt….

  22. Having received no motion from the TAH Dickweeds to amend the WOT Rules to permit ties for WOT First, the issue is no longer amenable to motion this calendar year. There is, therefore, no allowance for ties for WOT First. The matter may be raised again no sooner than the 2018 TAH Rules Committee Meeting at a date TBD. Adjourned. (Bangs gavel)

      1. Sharing time IS NOT happy time at TAH… unless it involved booze, ceegars or pics of young, nubile wimmens with teh nice boobehs!

    1. Ok, I must not be a dickweed, then. That’s good news, I guess. But I did make a motion on your original comment to allow for ties on the WOT First.

      1. Eden. You’re a TAH Dickweed if you claim it and are proud of it. As for your motion, I truly missed it. Sorry. If it’s any consolation, you would have needed a second and third to get it in the rules. And based on the reaction to the proposal, the chances weren’t good. But there’s always next year!

        1. REMEMBER that cheesy ’60s Dr. Pepper commercial jingle? this is sung to the tune of it:

          I’m a Dickweed
          You’re a Dickweed
          He’s a Dickweed
          She’s a Dickweed

Wouldn’t you like to be a Dickweed too?

        2. Wasn’t quite sure whether or not it’s genetically possible for a female to be a dickweed. 🙂

          1. “Wasn’t quite sure whether or not it’s genetically possible for a female to be a dickweed.”

            Absolutely.

Just as cocksucker is gender neutral.

  23. The Temp TOTs are for practice purposes, to give you TOTters a better edge. Unpredictable as to time, location, and quality, they will allow you, the TOTters, to practice your “firsties” skills without compromising your dignity or income.

    1. “Abid, Imran and Jamal have all shared a house in Lorton, Virginia, that is owned by Hina R. Alvi. Alvi is a female House IT employee who works for many of the same members as the three brothers, as well as the House Democratic Caucus.

Signs of trouble have long been visible in public records. The Congressional Credit Union repossessed Abid’s car in 2009, and he declared bankruptcy in 2012, facing multiple lawsuits.”

  24. “Abid Awan, Imran Awan and Jamal Awan, are three brothers who worked within the IT department for members of the House Permanent Intelligence Committee.” Dafuq.

      1. Jamal, who public records suggest is only 22 years old and first began working in the House when he was 20, was paid nearly $160,000 a year, or three times the average House IT staff salary, according to InsideGov, which tracks congressional salaries. Abid was paid $161,000 and Imran $165,000.

No wonder we are fucking broke.

        Cocksuckers.

        1. There is a pic of the one muh-zee cocksucker with Bill Clinton at the link.

There is also speculation that these fucking muh-zee’s warned the other fucking muh-zee’s in Yemen.

        2. Read the article. Some familiar names are included: Wasserman Shultz, Duckworth…

          I’m going to gag.
