Petraeus joins Mark Kelly against guns

General David Petraeus lost me when he started thinking with his little head. Now, according to The Hill, he’s teamed up with Mr. Gabby Giffords, Mark Kelly, to establish a gun control group, the Veterans Coalition for Common Sense;

“As service members, each of us swore an oath to protect our Constitution and the homeland,” said Kelly…“Now we’re asking our leaders to do more to protect our rights and save lives,” Kelly added in the statement. “Gabby and I are grateful to all of these incredible veterans and leaders who are using their voice to call for commonsense change that makes our communities safer.”

In addition to Petraeus, the former CIA director, and Kelly, a number of other generals and admirals will join the group, including another former CIA director, Michael Hayden, and retired Adm. Thad Allen.

There is a list of the flag officers who have joined them at their website, which resides on the Americans for Responsible Solutions web presence. The list includes Stan McChrystal, who admitted that he voted for Obama before the President fired him, and Wesley Clark, the Hillary supporter.

I don’t suppose that any of their solutions would be to enforce the current law. Maybe they’d like to explain to me how a felon in possession of a concealed weapon in Michigan only rates two days of “time served” imprisonment. How does that relate to gun safety?

I know this list of gun-grabbers isn’t really considering anything that is actually “common sense”. They’re hiding their real intentions behind veterans’ suicides. Standing on the bodies of the dead, just like they always do.

    Do Mr. Giffords and the other conspirators have any concept of what “…support and defend the Constitution” means? “True faith and allegiance”? From Petraeus…that’s rich.

    I’ve never read his COIN doctrine but I didn’t see us disarming Afghans en mass. I guess the ROE in “the homeland” is different. No doubt Bateman is their bashi bashi boy. Molon Labe motherfuckers.

    Maybe he is reading a different constitution than the one I swore an oath to protect. I seem to remember something in the second amendment to the constitution that says shall not be infringed. How does taking away the right of law abiding citizens to own weapons make them safer?

    I can only surmise that the generals and admirals and Mister Kelly are more concerned about control of the population than citizen safety.

He was awarded the Medal of Honor before an investigation was completed as to what happened to his paperwork. It came up missing after Petraeus recommended that Captain Swenson NOT receive the nation’s highest medal for valor. It took four years for the captain’s valor to be properly recognized, no thanks to Petraeus who, by the way, had no recollection of the matter and couldn’t say how paper and digitized copies of the material came to disappear. Captain Swenson was not silent about the very disturbing matter. Said he, “The investigation failed to meet the standard of a military investigation in which individuals are identified. Behind every single institutional failure, there’s a name.”

  21. Some of you may have heard of General William A. Knowlton. He served in WW II and in Vietnam. Among other of his accomplishments, he served as superintendent at West Point from 1970-74, the exact years that Cadet Petraeus attended the academy. General Knowlton knew Petraeus personally. He had to because Petraeus dated the general’s daughter, Holly. The two were married at the West Point chapel. Just a little tidbit I thought you might like.

  23. There’s a fellow named Barnett you never heard of. Robert Barnett. His specialty is resurrecting formerly respected and prominent people who fell into public disfavor. According to one writer, a Fred Kaplan, the general’s “re-emergence into public life has been carefully managed by Robert Barnett, the consigliere to many members of the Washington elite in search of second chapters….” So, Petraeus was advised to lay low for a while, to let the storm pass. He stayed home and, eventually, reporters stopped calling and parking themselves outside his house. The shamed former CIA director was in hiding. He finally came out, some five months after his resignation, wrapping himself in a speech about Veterans. Was it all designed and contrived? In my view, absolutely. And so is this anti-gun bullshit. It’s a vehicle for Petraeus to regain some limelight and the support of the libs he coddles. I don’t trust the bastard. Out.

    We are seeing a very disturbing trend in the military these days. General officers like yourself expressing casual disregard for their Oaths (in addition to sexual misconduct, abuse of authority, and other conduct unbecoming of an officer) and an eagerness to pander to the whims of left-wing politicians. Meanwhile, NCOs and junior officers far closer to the realities of warfare and the world in general are much more likely to honor their Oath, do their duty–which doesn’t necessarily mean following your orders–and respect the law. You and others like you punish and penalize them every step of the way for it. They exemplify what General MacArthur was talking about when he spoke of “duty, honor, country” a lot better than MacArthur himself did, and you, Dave, are no MacArthur. You don’t deserve to wear the same uniform as Norman Schwarzkopf. You’re definitely not fit to breathe the same air as James Mattis.

    But given your track record when it comes to integrity, I’m honestly not surprised that you’re an oathbreaker.

    First of all, he’s great a greasing his own wheels, isn’t he? I’ll be he has all those little boxes checked off on his ‘to do’ list.

    Second, he likes his comfort, obviously, so he wants a cushy income and a moderately expensive home in the right zip code, with a butler’s pantry and a manroom, complete with bodacious wet bar, tournament-sized pool table, and covered walkway to the pool.

    Third, he can easily present himself as the ‘expert’ on ‘expert’ subjects to any media outlet within viewing range.

    And fourth, until he starts sagging (which will reduce his ‘wisdom’ status), he’s reasonably photo-oppable, so he can be the ‘front’ for whoever hires him.

    So until he proves less than useful because he can’t get anyone at the pentagonal building across the street from Quarters K (now extinct) to go on feeding him ‘secure’ information any longer, he’ll have a civilian job for a while.

    The Bulgingburgers aren’t about anything except MONEY. If they’re so influential, how come they didn’t stop Bernie Madoff’s ruinous shenanigans? If they had any real influence, they’d have been in the White House 7.5 years ago telling that moron in the Oval Office to back off. If you think they aren’t just as worried about their own massive fortunes and the Chinese Yuan replacing the US dollar as THE major currency, you are very mistaken.

    China has been stockpiling gold for a VERY long time. As I said elsewhere, there is the distinct possibility that China will dump its holdings in US Treasuries and market its Yuan as a major trading currency.

    THAT is what is worrying those old gasbags having that ‘secret’ meeting. And they think this brown-nosing rock pika can feed them any worthwhile info? Get real? He’s just another useful idiot to them, a front to dispel the speculation.

  50. Well…gifford’s FB site is definitely just another bag of dicks.

    I was raising hell there for awhile along other vets and assorted gun owners, but they’re doing damage control there and deleting all the opinions they don’t like. Evidently they aren’t a big fan of DOJ stats or people that know the difference between an AR and an M-4 or how gun purchases actually work.

    1. See, that’s the problem with so-called social media. People think it will only attract people whose opinions are the same as theirs. Instead, when a controversial subject is presented the presenters get smacked over their idiot opinions, they have to roll up their tents and go away.

      I’d suggest continuing the deluge of in-your-face stuff with these clowns, if I may.
