Alex Popovic Subway sandwich shop commando

A lovely young lady who will remain nameless here sent the following piece to us about a guy she met in her local Subway sandwich shop while he was slicing and dicing and telling his war stories. She thought it was a little odd that he’d being working in a sandwich shop after he told her that he’d been advising President Bush on strategy for the global war against terror and did some research on the guy.

She’s been looking for a venue to publish her research when she discovered TSO’s battle against uncommon stupidity last week and settled on TAH.

This is Alex Popovic, CEO and Founder of Greyside Group; you can view his website here www.greysidegroup.com.

By their own admission they have the “Highest Legal, Moral, and Professional Business practices in the Industry”.

Let’s look at the first paragraph of his bio:

“Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, Mr. Popovic immigrated to the Unites States in 1986, becoming a U.S. citizen in 1994. Earning a degree in Chemical Engineering at Florida State University, he garnered minors in mathematics and physics as well. In 1993 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, rising to serve in elite U.S. Special Operations units for 10 years. Mr. Popovic participated in classified and unclassified missions throughout the world, including Liberia, Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He was awarded the Silver Star for valor and the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat. He has briefed former President George W. Bush, Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld, and various national security advisors and national military command council members on strategies and tactics during the Global War on Terror after the events of 11 September 2001. ”

WOW! Impressive!

– Silver Star Recipient-
– Purple Heart Recipient
– Briefed former President George Bush and Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld

The Real issue. Confirmation from the Marine Corps-

NO SILVER STAR. NO PURPLE HEART. NO CAR.

NOT EVEN A COMBAT ACTION RIBBON!

A degree at FSU? I see an Aleksandar Popovic with a degree from FSU….but he is a Serbian politician.

What a Coincidence!

Sounds like this guy would be working at a Subway store, not briefing former President Bush.

Which reminds me……he WAS a Subway manager, and managed to work his way up to owner. Maybe the CAR is a sandwich, not an award? (Chicken Avocado Ranch?)

Question of the day – With the Stolen Valor issue- doesn’t it seem like this poser has built an industry on military honors he has not received?

I’ve seen her documentation, but I’m not publishing it here at her request since she’s also approached ABC News.

  1. XXX is now private. I was there, read some stuff, refreshed, and was asked for a log-in. Also getting a 404 error on the Greyside Group link.

  2. Having trouble discerning your post…are you saying that the Greyside Group is bullshit? Or just the Subway jerk? Do we have a real Alex Popovic or just the phoney fuck? The website for Greyside does seem kinda strange.

  3. Wow. This guy is a SERIOUS douche. Just scanned the lawsuit .pdf. All I see is a case that’s going to get laughed out of court.

  4. He lives in Scottsdale and collects a worker’s compensation check for an “injury” he claimed was sustained in Afghanistan. Allegedly he has multiple businesses that he has busted out and conned good people.

  5. ok the picture there made me laugh… if thats his battle rattle then he must be so good he only needs the one mag that is in the rifle.

  6. Points for clarification:

Are we not saying that Alex Popovic is the “Subway” sandwich guy referred to whom the young lady met?

Are we not saying that Alex Popovic is the “sandwich guy” referred to in the XXX posts that have recently been made private?

Are we not saying that Alex Popovic is alleging that he is or is in actuallity affiliated with the Greyside Group?

There’s a lot of weirdness going on here which might all be linked to the fact that it’s all fraudulent, but I wanted to make sure our baseline is first established before proceeding further.

  7. It’s funny; Greyside’s motto is oddly similar to the Department of Veterans Affairs’ core values.

Coincidence? Rip-off? I’d be curious to see the actual copyright paperwork which the ” © ” symbol seems to purport have been filed.

  8. So they are a “legit” company, but the owner got the work based on his lies about his silver star and heroic combat operations. They claim to be the biggest security firm here – http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/greyside-group-selected-reederei-nsb-as-their-exclusive-provider-armed-maritime-security-1555269.htm and looks like still doing the work even after the Mozambique thing – http://combating-piracy.com/partners/sponsors

So I think the company is really out there doing security work, but that they are doing it under the CEO who lied about his combat history.

  9. http://greysidegroup.com/

Still up and running on its computer “web”-site —
    (as of xx:58 Hours, 13 JUN 2012)
and appears very expensively professional —
almost as if it were the Gov’t Military, itself !!

  10. Could Greystone be legitimate, and the man in the thread assumed one of Greystone’s executive’s identities?

  11. Talk about stealing, not just from the VA but check out Blackwaters new company Academi (http://academi.com/pages/train/corporate-courses) and Greysidegroup (http://greysidegroup.com/services/training) last paragraph…

“We specialize in supporting commercial customers in the insurance, shipping and oil and gas industries. Our results-driven professional services are delivered by our veteran trainers. Our instructors are among the best in the world. They are recruited from elite law enforcement agencies and the military, and they deliver real-world, innovative instruction for our all of our clients.”

  12. How long do we wait on ABC News to decide that they don’t understand Stolen Valor? And why should we anyway??

Until then we just laugh at the pic and standby for later furor??

Guess we are spoiled. We expect the game ball to be tossed out and we begin to play. This feels like we are milling around the field, waiting to be told if there might be a game later, but we can’t find out if it’s volleyball or soccer.

  13. I emailed the company through its web site asking them if they knew that this turd was claiming to be its CEO.

Will be interesting to see what they say, if anything.

  14. I’m thinking the sammich chucker is borrowing GreysideGroup and just fed the line of BS to the source, because anyone that runs a merc….excuse me, “contractor” company isn’t going to be running a sub shop on the side.

  15. I love crowd sourcing. Someone might want to call DCIS as well and let them know there’s possible contract fraud with this one.

  16. Website says CCR Certified”…

Do “advanced search” input GreySide Group and check “all vendors”

    https://www.bpn.gov/CCRSearch/detail.aspx

Not CCR registered. Says ‘expired’ 1/20/2012 and “delinquent federal debt”…all contact info is there as well, as well.

Also claims Service Disabled Veteran Owned Business

  17. He has briefed former President George W. Bush, Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld

Maybe they stopped in for a sandwich one day.

  18. …also, if you read thru the lawsuit its Greyside aka Global aka Popodopolous…. he/they claim the Minority partners hi-jacked the company from him illegally and started operating a competing business (Allied?) using Greyside contacts.

AND… Ferguson (the only “operator”) resigned due to the management boondoggle/takeover/lawsuit that put his field operators in harms way!

Seems like a ticking time bomb…..

  19. Well, it looks like our 2012 version of “Crocodile Dundee” here isn’t quite as capable as the original. Everything he touches seems to be falling down around him. And it looks like he’ll soon have some ‘splaining to do, too.

Gotta hand it to him for chutzpah, though – filing a lawsuit in Federal court while trying to pass off his “business” as a “service disabled veteran’s” shop when he’d never served. And doing it via phone-forward remote through a “hotel-space” office halfway around the country. Didn’t this fool realize that lawsuits involve the possibility of discovery and court testimony? Or that someone might pay a few hundred for someone to investigate him after he filed the suit? Did he really think no one would find out he was a fake?

Maybe we should call him “Crock-a-dumb Dundee”.

  20. Blackfive, that was awesome, and i can’t believe i havent heard about it before….HILARIOUS

  21. Blackfive, that is some of the funniest shit that I have ever read. Congratulations for having the foresight to preserve this thread for the benefit of mankind. He must work at the Iverson Mall in Prince George’s County, MD. Shit like that happens every day.

Slightly off topic, check this out. Not as funny as the mall ninjas, but I gave it my best shot.

  22. Yeah seems this guy tried to screw all his contractors and his backers. Hold the onions extra on the sauce.

  23. Yeah lets talk about his battle rattle, did he take that from his neighbour and borrow the dog from the spca, thats pretty clean turnouts nice groomed beard , oh but i forgot they have a company barber in the “rear with the gear”

  24. Blackfive, that there is some funny shit you posted that link to. Don’t car who you are…LOL! As for this clown, it will suck to be him when the justice system (or Yat Yas) catches up to him.
