Navy “Medic”??? Nope. 5th Marine Expeditionary Unit?? Nope. No such animal. At least not in the U.S. Marine Corps. The only MEUs that were in Beirut were the 32nd (Redesignated 22nd) and the 24th, and they were MAUs (Marine Amphibious Unit) back then. I know, because I was there in 82,83,and 84 and I can prove it. Betcha he can’t.
Gunny,
I was in the Root twice with Lima 3/8. Once before the bombing and then again after. First time there we were hooching at the shit river by the airport runway. Then they moved us up in the hills to the American U. Our skipper Chuck Johnson is the one who jumped up in the Israeli tank. Semper Fi Devildog! Cpl Mike Kunkel

What a POS! His ass needs to be in Jail. I was in Beirut with HMM-162, 24 MAU. You will note that back then, it was a MAU (Marine Amphibious Unit) and not a MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit).
